Is an article being desecrated repeatedly at an alarming rate? Is it the subject of heavy debate and constant changes? In either case, if these become too much of a problem, then you've probably got a page that needs to be locked by an administrator or moderator until such unproductive tendencies are resolved (which, sadly, almost never happens). This can be a depressing sight on any wiki when a page is in need of Wiki Magic (or attention from grammaticians) — the best option is to try keeping things productive so administrators have to do this as little as possible.
Moderators (listed here) have locking authority on this wiki, and can also edit them to fix problems. Engineers (listed on the same page) can also edit pages that were locked by moderators, but are not able to lock or unlock pages themselves. To get their attention, post your request on the forum, in the sticky topic about edits and unlocking to locked pages.
There used to be an autolocking system which locked all cut pages to prevent people recreating them. Certain pages that the community has decided upon as not coming back in a million years are put in the Permanent Red Link Club.
Note: If you were directed here when you clicked the "edit" button on an article (even though it had a lock icon instead, you crazy dedicated troper, you), it means the article is locked. Look below for the reason. If you don't see the article in question here, or on Permanent Red Link Club for blank locked articles, ask Ask The Tropers or the sticky topic linked above to add it.
At the moment, the following pages are locked:
- AATAFOVS.A Three Hour Tour: Was part of an old project and got locked as "done" when the illustrations came near to completion.
Pages in the Administrivia/ namespace are meant to guide tropers on how to go about editing on the wiki. As such, the pages themselves have no need of examples or definition-tweaking. All pages except for a handful of exceptions (mostly ones related to maintenance instead of policy) must be locked to prevent either from happening.
- Analysis.Anti Hero: Consistent problem with type labels.
- Analysis.Sliding Scale Of Anti Heroes: Lots of misuse.
- Awesome.Player Accomplishments: Attracted Troper Tales-like examples; redirected to a more apropos page.

- Characters. The Sith Resurgence: The page is locked because the author encouraged her followers to edit her fanfic pages to her liking
- ComicBook.Liberality For All: The subject of the article is basically living breathing Flame Bait.

- JustForFun.TV Tropes Will Ruin Your Life: People used to add crap that denigrated the wiki when it was in Main/.
- JustForFun.The Archive Of Bellicose Lexicon Entities: It was a series of articles listing tropers accordingly to their visions on trope naming, images, example lists and the like. Since it was determined that these articles, rather than serving their purpose as fun places for like-minded tropers to associate, were inspiring antagonism and factionalism among our user base, they have been discontinued and all of them now redirect back to that index, which now remains as a means of defining the acronyms only, and is locked to prevent tropers from listing themselves on one of those categories, which they can simply do through their userpages anyway.

- Accidental Nightmare Fuel: At some point the constant arguments about the definition of this trope and of Nightmare Fuel were enough. Examples lockout due to continuous Trope Decay.
- Administrivia: List of policies, locked to prevent unilateral changes.
- Aliens Made Them Do It: A Sexual Harassment And Rape Trope locked to keep it clean as examples drifted into creepiness.
- All Gays Are Pedophiles: Preemptive lock to prevent paedophilia apologism.
- Anatomically Impossible Sex: Examples lockout.
- Ask The Tropers: This page is an auto-redirect; the old markup does not need to be edited.
- Badass Gay: The Badass tropes cleanup thread decided Badass Gay wasn't actually a trope, too broad, and being listed in any work that had a gay badass character despite the old description specifically requiring it to be addressed in the work itself. It was turned into a disambiguation to keep the inbounds, and was locked after multiple unilateral attempts to revert the page to its former trope state.
- Badass Israeli: Locked to prevent agenda-based editing.
- Bad Writing Index: The previous name for the Writing Pitfall Index. Locked after it was turned into a redirect for the new name to prevent its restoration, along with the new name being locked and any potential new tropes having to be vetted.
- Bara: Enforcing a reduction in anime jargon.
- Base Breaker: People keep trying to reverse the Example Sectionectomy.
- Base-Breaking Character: Carrying over the lock on the original name, Base Breaker. Examples were locked out at Base Breaker after repeated restoration of the examples.
- Bishoujo: Enforcing a reduction of anime jargon.
- Black Bra and Panties: Page was restored after being cut for advertiser complaints. Safety feature to prevent any trouble.
- Eye colours: To keep people from trying to stealth add more not tropes that just point out a character's eye colour and otherwise do nothing.
- Circular Redirect: The page redirects to itself as a joke, and has been locked to prevent people from breaking the redirect, since the fact that the software no longer allows making circular redirects means remaking it wouldn't be possible.
- Comedic Lolicon: The previous pages "lolicon" and "shotacon" had their examples cut and were locked due to nebulous legality in English-speaking countries and issues with advertisers. The two follow up pages were locked to avoid similar problems, as was Laconic.Comedic Lolicon.
- Complete Monster: Keeps getting edited to play with the definition even though we agreed to leave it alone and put examples in the subpages.
- Confirmed YKTS: Archive. No reason to edit it.
- Contributor Announcements: Was formerly a page where tropers made announcements. Now we use the fora for this purpose.
- Creator Bashing: Was initially created to support complaining against creators, then changed by the admins to be against it. It was changed into a redirect for Complaining About Shows You Don't Like, as it was considered redundant to the latter.
- Creator's Pet: The main article is for definition only, and is locked to prevent changes to it. Add examples in the subpages; any change to the definition must be discussed in the forum thread.
- Cult Classic: Given an Example Sectionectomy; locked to enforce it.
- Dandere: Keeps attracting examples despite the posted examples lockout. The page defines the Fanspeak term. For the broader trope and examples from media, see Shrinking Violet and Sugar-and-Ice Personality.
- Dominatrix: Examples lockout after issues with advertisers.
- Double Standard: Attracted excessive amounts of complaining about the topic as well as heated debates and soapboxing over feminism.
- Double Standard Rape: Female on Male: Flame Bait induced from being a Rape-related trope.
- Edit War: To prevent any self-demonstration.
- Emo Teen: The definition is broad and subjective, and the term "Emo" itself is heavily stigmatized. Examples also attracted character bashing and natter.
- Ephebophile: Examples lockout.
- Euroshlock: The topic is controversial. Was autolocked when cut; reinstating the lock as it was never lifted
- Evil Overlord List and subpages: The original edition is final due to it being from another website. Our extensions are open.
- False Rape Accusation: Flame Bait. The TLP for this this trope attracted heated debate, so this page was launched with a lock on it. The very touchy nature of this trope would just attract flame wars.
- Family Friendly: No reason for anybody to edit this, it's a hardcoded redirect anyway.
- FAQ: Effectively an Administrivia page. Locked to prevent unilateral changes.
- Fetish: Examples lockout after issues with advertisers, also the title is a problem.
- Fetish Fuel: The original lock was because of confusion about which is the index, but was later maintained to uphold an examples lockout. The examples often got out of Family Friendly territory way too easily. Previous examples were moved into an off-site wiki.
- Fetish-Fuel Future: Emergency Example Sectionectomy after issues with advertisers and to remove prurient content.
- Five-Man Band: Was locked due to rampant misuse.
- Flame Bait: Page assigns the Flame Bait banner, which needs to be restricted to prevent abuse.

- Hazel Eyes: Part of the eye cleanup.
- Hello Boys: Sex Sells clone, awful title.
- Hentai: Examples and index lockout as part of the site's No Lewdness policy.
- Heroic Sociopath: Attracted massive Trope Decay. The disambiguation was kept to take the inbounds, but the title was redlinked to discourage any more wicking.
- Het: Original version had a digression about fandoms and opinions about the trope that left little for the actual description. Locked to keep its readable state and also to preserve the funny aspects, which people kept removing.
- High Octane Nightmare Fuel: The trope invited constant arguments about its definition, until someday in 2012 enough was enough.
- Hollywood Tactics: Locked due to persisting Natter problems despite there being a huge warning against it.
- Home Page: The home page used to attract vandalism; now it's only meant to contain a forced redirect.
- Hot Dad: People are consistently unable to understand that this must be In-Universe only. It was eventually made a disambiguation page.
- Hot Mom: People are consistently unable to understand that this must be In-Universe only. It was eventually made a disambiguation page.
- I Am Not Making This Up Discussion: Archive. No reason to edit it.
- Idiot Plot : Was turned into a Flame Bait Definition Only Page due to being used for complaining. Locked to enforce the definition and Example Sectionectomy.
- If You Know What I Mean: The old name for Lampshaded Double Entendre. Was made a deliberate redlink due to tropers potholing their own double entendres to the page.
- Image Links Wiki: Autoindexing now.
- Incredibly Lame Pun: Page is a redirect for a reason; if it were disambiguated lots of people would waste time cleaning the wicks when there never was consensus to do so.

- It Gets Worse: Was locked to preserve faux-redlink.
- It Got Worse: Was locked to preserve faux-redlink.
- It Just Bugs Me!: Locked during the rename to Headscratchers, recreated just to explain the history of the term.

- Known Troper: Effectively an Administrivia page. Locked to prevent unilateral changes.
- Kuudere: Examples lockout and to enforce a reduction in the use of Anime jargon. The page defines the Fanspeak term. For the broader trope and examples from media, see Sugar-and-Ice Personality.
- Laconic Wiki: The indexes were too big to be on a editable wiki page and not crash the server, but locking the page would not let the index update. Instead, there is a link to a non wiki page that lists every page with the corresponding namespace.
- Lolicon: The previous pages "lolicon" and "shotacon" had their examples cut and were locked due to nebulous legality in English-speaking countries and issues with advertisers.
- Lolicon and Shotacon: The previous pages "lolicon" and "shotacon" had their examples cut and were locked due to nebulous legality in English-speaking countries and issues with advertisers. The two follow up pages were locked to avoid similar problems, as was Laconic.Comedic Lolicon.

- Magnificent Bastard: Requested by tropers cleaning up the trope.

- Naughty Tentacles: Locked after a first cut in 2012, still locked to prevent any restoration of creepy content.
- Netorare: To enforce a reduction in anime jargon.
- No. Just... No: Originally created for a character's reaction to a Squicky moment, it got misused as a pothole for editors inserting their own reaction to what was in the example. In-Universe examples were moved to "No. Just… No" Reaction. While redlinked, this is still used as a redirect to the new article to keep appropriate links and remove unnecessary wicks.
- "Not If They Enjoyed It" Rationalization: One of the Sexual Harassment and Rape Tropes locked to keep it clean.
- Orwellian Editor: Before the redirecting, the examples ignored the definition; bile and Take Thats aimed at any moderation at all.
- Pædo Hunt: Description turned into an essay about paedophilia, which drew unwanted real-life examples and threatened to turn it into the same anti-persecution tract that forced us to change its name from All Pedophiles Are Child Molesters.
- Panty Shot: Examples lockout due to creepy content.
- Parabombing: Before it was redirected, the temptation was great to make it a Self-Demonstrating Article, spoiling the purpose of the page.
- Pink Bishōjo Ghetto: Locked pending rework as it was unduly anime specific. Was later renamed but the redirect is still locked.
- Political Correctness Gone Mad: A disambiguation page that attracted drama and edit warring before it was split, and was kept locked as a precaution.
- Political Correctness, Political Correctness Run Amuck, and Politically Correct: Redirects to the Political Correctness Gone Mad disambiguation page; locked as a precaution.

- Query Bugs: No reason for anybody to edit this as it's a hardcoded redirect.
- Query Wishlist: No reason for anybody to edit this as it's a hardcoded redirect.
- Quotes Wiki: The indexes were too big to be on a editable wiki page and not crash the server, but locking the page would not let the index update. Instead, there is a link to a non wiki page that lists every page with the corresponding namespace.
- Rape as Drama: Vandal target. As a rape trope, locking was an obvious solution.
- Rape Discretion Shot: As part of the rape trope cleanup.
- Rape Is a Special Kind of Evil: One of the Sexual Harassment and Rape Tropes locked to keep it clean.
- Real Life: Usual problem with people running the joke way into the ground.

- Search Wiki: Formerly a link to an inbuilt search function.
- Sekaikei Genre: To enforce a reduction in anime jargon.
- Sex Slave: Precautionary lock to prevent the infiltration of controversial material.
- Shock Site: Examples lockout. We don't need such things posted here.
- Shōjo: To enforce a reduction in anime jargon.
- Shōnen: To enforce a reduction in anime jargon.
- Shotacon: As per Lolicon.
- Sideboob: Was restored after examples cut.
- Snark Bait : Facilitated too much complaining, and was turned into a Flame Bait Definition Only Page.
- Snuff Film: To enforce the examples lockout. Nowadays only fictional examples are allowed.
- Sorry, I Left the BGM On: To enforce a name change.
- Spikeification: To enforce a name change, on pain of banning.
- Squick: Examples brought constant natter and This Troper, plus we really don't need a page of gross stuff. Also, having examples here is somewhat pointless, considering we have Disgust Tropes, and a character's reaction will often be similar to the audience's reaction.
- "Stop Having Fun" Guys: Examples lockout due to arguments over content and trope definition.
- Tech Fu: Formerly described Gadgeteer Genius and Mad Scientist. The page is still there to define it as fan speak.
- The Art of Bra Removal: Page was restored after being cut for advertiser complaints. Safety feature to prevent any trouble.
- The Contributors: Page is supposed to be a hardcoded redirect.
- The Fundamentalist: Refusal to allow atheists to be included as fundamentalist, discussion over including fanaticism. Repeatedly reverted moderator and admin edits.
- The New '20s: Premature judgments on the entire decade from just one year did not stop, leading to this page being locked and the decade's Useful Notes page being both cut and locked until significantly more of the decade has passed.
- The Sociopath: People go waaaay out of bounds with the description length.
- The Wiki Rule: Locked with examples removed because the page attracted Zero Context Examples.
- This Troper: Attempts to make it self-demonstrating that undermine the point behind the article, as well as attempts to rewrite the definition out of a misguided belief that saying it's okay on that page will suddenly change the prevailing attitude. Its use in the first-person is not wanted.
- Trope Entry Template: Instruction page locked for the same reason as Administrivia pages.
- Trope Finder: No reason for anybody to edit this page as it's a hardcoded redirect.
- Trope Launch Pad: No reason for anybody to edit this page as it's a hardcoded redirect.
- Troper Demographics: Contained too many characters and started crashing the server; besides, the table was inaccurate from selection bias anyway. The list was replaced with simply a demographic picture from Google Analytics.
- Troper Tales: Finalizing the current information on the page.
- Tropes: Attracted vandalism.
- Tropes Are Tools: Redirect to locked Administrivia page. Locked to prevent unilateral changes.
- Trope Talk: Redirect. Effectively an Administrivia page. Locked to prevent unilateral changes.
- TV Tropes: To enforce a redirect to Home Page.
- Underboobs: Restoration after cut for having overly creepy content.
- United We Chant: Enforcing non-dialog titles.
- Unpleasable Fanbase: Examples lockout as it attracted complaining. The page was getting way too big with both examples and constant natter.
- What Measure Is a Non-Unique?: Presumably to enforce the name change to Uniqueness Value.
- Why Am I Banned: No reason for anyone to edit this.
- Wiki Talk: Redirect. Effectively an Administrivia page. Locked to prevent unilateral changes.
- Wiki Vandal: Obvious vandalism magnet.
- Wild Mass Guessing: People keep crufting it up with unnecessary junk.
- Writer Bashing: Policy page that was changed into a redirect for Complaining About Shows You Don't Like, as it was considered redundant to the latter.
- Writing Pitfall Index: An index about tropes generally associated with poor writing. Originally located at Bad Writing Index, it eventually became an index for Complaining About Tropes You Don't Like, even though the index itself said that the tropes listed aren't inherently negative or always the result of bad writing. As such, the index was renamed to Writing Pitfall Index, the old name was turned into a redirect for the new name, and both were locked, with any potential new tropes to be vetted.
- Xanatos Roulette: Enforcing name change.
- Yes, but What Does Zataproximetacine DO?: Presumably to enforce the name change to Side Effects Include..., although that page was also locked in the past due to "Edit warring about over-long gag".
- Yiff: Locked under The Content Policy.
- YKTTW: No need for anyone to edit this, as it's supposed to be a hardcoded redirect.
- YMMV: The former index of YMMV tropes. The index was eventually moved to YMMV.Home Page, with the former location being locked and turned into a disambig for the new index location and Love It or Hate It, which used to be named Your Mileage May Vary.
- You Know That Show: No need for anyone to edit this, as it's supposed to be a hardcoded redirect.
- You Know That Thing Where: No need for anyone to edit this, as it's supposed to be a hardcoded redirect.
- Manga.Lychee Light Club: Was formerly cut and thus autolocked, then restored by 5P which kept the lock under the name Litchi Hikari Club.
