Basic Trope: Repaying cruelty with kindness.
- Straight: Summer has been very abusive towards Danny, but Danny tells her that he forgives her.
- Exaggerated: Summer has made Danny's life a living hell, beat him up for no reason, crossed the Moral Event Horizon in killing his entire family, and tore up a letter to his best friend, but Danny instantly forgives her anyways.
- Downplayed: Summer behaved horribly towards Danny, but while Danny was angry, he nevertheless forgives her.
- Justified:
- Danny understands that despite Summer's demeanor, there is some goodness in her.
- Danny believes that if he were to get back at Summer, he will be no better than her.
- The only option for retaliation everybody and their dog is offering (or even ordering) Danny to use is disproportionate amounts of violence and even full-on murder. Danny wishes to get back at Summer, but he is not pissed or desperate (or deranged) enough to go for that.
- Inverted:
- The Farmer and the Viper: repaying kindness with cruelty.
- Pay Evil unto Evil: payment by evil actions for evil actions.
- Violence Really Is the Answer: sometimes retaliatory violence helps.
- Subverted: It seems that Danny was going to extend his kindness to Summer, only to slap her across the face.
- Double Subverted: ...right before forgiving her for all that she's done.
- Parodied: Summer smacks Danny on the cheek. Danny takes the turning the other cheek philosophy literally by showing one butt cheek.
- Zig Zagged: ???
- Averted: Danny doesn't forgive Summer, but he doesn't seek revenge either.
- Enforced: The author is high on forgiveness, so he wants to prove how Danny is an All-Loving Hero who would never think of Revenge.
- Lampshaded: "You're forgiving me after everything I've done to you?"
- Invoked: Danny is tired of Summer’s bullying, but Danny’s parents/mentor remind him that the personal costs of revenge are much worse than the costs of forgiveness.
- Exploited: Summer purposely targets Danny, because she knows his religious/moral convictions will always cause him to forgive rather than retaliate.
- Defied: Danny makes it clear to Summer that he will never forgive her and won't let her get off that easily.
- Discussed: "How can Danny put up with someone like Summer?"
- Conversed:
- "When is Danny gonna give that bitch what she deserves? Because I don't want the series to end with Summer getting away with all of her nonsense."
- "Turning the other cheek just leaves people free to claw your other cheek too."
- Deconstructed:
- It is then found out that the Danny turning the other cheek allowed Summer to continue to abuse him all over again. This led Danny into developing severe mental issues that are impossible to solve.
- Danny soon violently snaps at Summer after all of the abuse he's forgiven her for, and decides to completely abandon her for good. To drive the point home, he vows to never forgive anyone if they wrong him.
- Reconstructed: But despite this, Summer sees the error of her ways and made a sincere Heel–Face Turn on Danny's behalf, proving that forgiving others can cause someone to reform.
