This index is for works that focus on dragons. A work just having a dragon does not qualify. The dragon must be one of the main characters, the main threat, or otherwise central to the plot. Such works will invariably include one or more Dragon Tropes.

Multimedia Franchises
- Breath of Fire: Each dragon form you can take has a different appearance, as well as move set and strength.
- Digimon: There are several species who are considered dragons and distinguishable by the suffix dramon (although not always, most predominantly in the Four Great Dragons group) in their name.
- Dragon Age
- Dragon Ball: The titular Dragon Balls of Earth can summon a wish-granting magical dragon named Shenron.
- Drakengard: Dragons are among the most powerful of magical creatures. Often cynical and proud, they were originally created by the gods to guard the world and purge humanity. In times sense however, dragons turned against their creators and waged their own conflict to gain control of the world. They also possess Evolutionary Levels, allowing them to adapt as needed.
- Fire Emblem: Dragons, referred to as Manaketes, and their relations to humans form the crux of several of the series' plots
- Godzilla: The titular character's arch-enemy is King Ghidorah, a three-headed dragon monster. There's also Manda, an aquatic Eastern dragon that fights and loses to the Gotengo. If you count dinosaurs as dragons, the titular Godzilla may count as well.
- How to Train Your Dragon
- Spyro the Dragon: The titular hero of the series is a purple Western dragon whose enemies are usually dragons themselves.
- Tabaluga: The titular protagonist, Tabaluga, is the last dragon in the world, although his late father, Tyrion, shows up in ghost form sometimes.
- Yu-Gi-Oh!: There are a number of dragons, and Kazuki Takahashi has stated "anything can become a dragon", and any motif can work so long as it shares the most basic, recognizable aspects of dragons.

- Bakugan: Drago, who can actually curl up into a tiny ball when he's not fighting. There's also Dharak, Rubanoid, Plitheon, Avior, Wayvern, Naga, Percival, Hydranoid, and Helios, all of whom are either dragons or dragon-like beings.
- Cardfight!! Vanguard: Many of the more powerful cards are dragons, and many characters have used at least one at some point. Most of the Kagero and Narukami clans are outright dragon-themed, and Tachikaze make heavy use of Dinosaurs Are Dragons.
- Chaos Dragon
- Dawn of the Seeker: Is an anime tie-in to the Dragon Age franchise.
- Digimon:
- Digimon Adventure 02: Davis' Digimon partner is Veemon, a humanoid blue dragon-type Digimon with two legs, two arms, and a tail.
- Digimon Tamers: Guilmon, Takato's Digimon partner, looks like a draconic theropod dinosaur with two arms (three claws on each one) two legs with clawed feet allowing for plantigrade or digitigrade stances, and a tail as well.
- Digimon Fusion: Dorbickmon's army is composed entirely of dragon Digimon, except that he expands the definition of dragon to include anything even remotely reptilian.

- Drifting Dragons: In a setting where The Sky Is an Ocean, crew members of an airship hunt dragons for food and as a job. Dragons are more akin to (deep) sea life rather than giant winged lizards.
- Duel Masters: Shobu's signature card is Bolshack Dragon. There are four types of dragons: zombie dragons, "wyverns" that look like dragons but don't count as them (uh...), "Dragonoid" lizardmen, and giant reptiles called Dune Geckos.
- Fairy Tail: Natsu, the series' protagonist, was notably raised by a dragon. The series' dragons are a mix of both Western and Eastern versions, whereby their physical form resembles the Western versions but like the Eastern dragons are highly intelligent and possesses insane amount of magic that overpowers almost all humans.
- Flame of Recca: The titular protagonist's eponymous power could summon eight flaming dragons or at least channel their powers.
- A Herbivorous Dragon Of Five Thousand Years Gets Unfairly Villainized: The main character is a vegetarian and cowardly dragon.
- How to Keep a Mummy features Isao the dragon among its cast of Fun Size monsters.
- Legendz: It's a story about a boy and his dragon
- The Little Prince and the Eight-Headed Dragon
- Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid
- Mobile Suit Gundam AGE: The main antagonists, the Vagan, uses draconic mobile suits.

- Spirited Away: Haku, a.k.a. the spirit of the Kohaku river, is an Eastern Dragon who's able to take on a humanoid form.
- Taro The Dragon Boy: The titular character goes on a quest to search for his mother who was turned into an Eastern dragon.
- The Vision of Escaflowne: The titular Transforming Mecha turns into a western dragon
- Yona of the Dawn
- Yu-Gi-Oh!: Nearly every series has one or more main characters that have dragon cards.
- Yu-Gi-Oh!: Kaiba has his iconic Blue-Eyes White Dragon, Joey has Red-Eyes Black Dragon, and Yugi has both Curse of Dragon and Winged Dragon-Guardian of the Fortress. Additionally, two of the three Egyptian Gods are dragons (the Winged Dragon of Ra and Slifer the Sky Dragon) and three of the most five powerful monsters are dragons (Dragon Master Knight, Five-Headed Dragon, and Malefic Truth Dragon).
- Yu-Gi-Oh! GX: Many of the characters' trump cards are dragons, have "dragon/dragoon" in their name, or actually resemble dragons.
- Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s: The main and signature cards of the heroes are the Signer Dragons. They are Stardust Dragon, Red Dragon Archfield, Black Rose Dragon, Ancient Fairy Dragon, Black Feathered Dragon, and Life Stream Dragon.
- Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL: Yuma has Number 17: Leviathan Dragon, a monster that can power itself up twice, and ZW Tornado Bringer. Kite has Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon and his upgrade Neo Galaxy-Eyes. While not technically a dragon, Shark's Shark Drake is very draconian. Kaito's Robot Buddy Orbital 7 uses a deck with an XYZ called Googly-Eyes Drum Dragon, which is also incredibly powerful but technically a Machine.
- Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V: We have Yuya's Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon, Beast-Eyes Pendulum Dragon, Rune-Eyes Pendulum Dragon and Odd-Eyes Rebellion Dragon. There's also Yuto's Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon, Yugo's Clear Wing Synchro Dragon, Yuri's Starve Venom Fusion Dragon, and Jack's Red Wyvern and Scarlight Red Dragon Archfiend. You can also count Constellar Ptolemy M7, who is very dragon-like despite being a Machine.
- Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS: Yusaku has Firewall Dragon. Revolver has three ace Dragons, though only one (Borreload) is an actual Dragon-Type. The others are Machine (Cracking Dragon), Cyberse, and Topologic Bomber Dragon.

- "The Lambton Worm": The worm doesn't fly or breathe fire like most dragons, but its size, malevolence, supernatural nature, and need to be killed by a knight, definitely put it in the vicinity.
- "The Nine Peahens and the Golden Apples": The Big Bad is a dragon.
- "Prince Lindworm": The titular snake-dragon is one of the main characters.

- Abraxas (Hrodvitnon): Based on Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019); one of the main protagonists is San, the former left head of Ghidorah reborn as part of a half-Ghidorah Titan, whilst Ghidorah itself functions as the Big Bad
- Harry Is A Dragon, And That's Okay
- The Heart Trilogy: Based upon The Hobbit; one of the main protagonists is the dragon Smaug.
- The Storm Dragons: Based on the Inheritance Cycle.
- A Thing of Vikings: Based on How to Train Your Dragon.
- Triptych Continuum: The protagonist of Unnoticed is the dragon Spike.
Films — Animation
- Bartok the Magnificent: The villain steals and drinks a potion that is supposed to "bring out the inner self", which turns her into a cartoony anthropomorphic dragon.
- Beowulf (2007): The dragon seen is similar to a wyvern, with two hind legs and two bat-like wings for forearms. He also has fins on his tail to help with swimming, and he may be fully amphibious.
- Dōjō-ji Temple (Kihachirō Kawamoto)

- The Flight of Dragons gets big into the speculative science of how dragonflight would work, tying it in with their Breath Weapon to portray dragons as essentially living hot air balloons
- The Hobbit features a strangely mammalian Smaug, voiced by Richard Boone
- How to Train Your Dragon
- Luck (2022): A major character in the film is a dragon voiced by Jane Fonda who runs a magical land of luck.
- Mulan: Mushu is an Eastern dragon reduced to being a Plucky Comic Relief Empathy Pet.
- Mulan II: The "travel-sized" Mushu from the above-mentioned film returns. His ego becomes bigger than the Great Wall as he tries to sabotage Mulan's marriage for the sake of his job security. He's become such an annoying and egotistical jerk to the Ancestors in his higher position, they actively conspire to get rid of him through Loophole Abuse.
- My Father's Dragon
- Mission Incredible: Adventures on the Dragon's Trail, the fourth Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf movie, is about the goats and wolves teaming up with a dragon to find and stop some evil dragons from causing turmoil in both the Green Green Grassland and the dragons' world.
- Quest for Camelot: Dragons are fairly standard fire-breathing, vaguely crocodilian hexapods that attack humans on sight. The one that joins the main characters as comic relief which is bipedal, anthropomorphic, and has two heads with opposite personalities. They claim to be a result of inbreeding, which would mean the other dragons are intelligent but don't talk to humans. Their breath weapon appears to be anachronistic references.
- Raya and the Last Dragon
- Scooby-Doo! and the Samurai Sword: The Green Dragon acts as a guardian to Scooby and Shaggy.
- Shrek: The huge dragon at first appears to be an old-fashioned monstrous Western Dragon, but it is soon revealed to be surprisingly intelligent and female. Although she isn't capable of human speech per se, she's capable of grunts, growls, and other sounds that work as a language well enough for at least Donkey to understand.
- Sleeping Beauty: At the end of the movie, Maleficent turns into a huge, black-scaled dragon to fight the prince.
- The Sword in the Stone: During the Shapeshifter Showdown, Merlin objects to Madame Mim's turning into a pink dragon as this goes against the rules she herself laid out. Mim retorts that she only banned pink dragons.

Gamebooks
- Draconomicon
- Eye of the Dragon: You play an adventurer seeking two gems called the Eye of the Dragon, which can unlock an underground chamber containing a valuable golden dragon statue as tall as yourself. However, said chamber is guarded by a powerful Black Dragon.
- Legend of Zagor: War Dragons were a race of powerful, fierce, magic-wielding evil dragons, raised by the Bone Demon to act as his vassals. One of them is still alive and protects Zagor's hideout. Also, a powerful Bone Dragon can be encountered in the dungeons of Castle Argent.
- Night Dragon: The titular villain is an eons-old monster that existed before time itself, and your role as the hero is to prevent its awakening. The Night Dragon's worshippers are led by the evil Bone Stalker Mage, a powerful Draconic Humanoid that initiates the massacre of entire populations of both humans and dragons; thankfully, on your side, you are assisted by the Dragon Conclave, an alliance of lawful dragons who wants to prevent the Night Dragon's awakening as well.
- Temple of Terror: There are five dragons. They can be summoned by an artifact and, apparently, just one of them is strong enough to ensure victory to a whole army of evil (which, considering that in other books you can fight dragons in hard but doable battles, is kinda odd).

- The Adventures of Strong Vanya: The main character beats down the evil wood-dwelling dragon Och, which was terrorizing an entire region, and gets the magic Ironwood Spear after defeating it.

- The Brothers Lionheart: The villain has a giant dragon named Katla in his command, which is a major threat.
- Cerberon: Dragons are about the same size as humans, have bat-like wings, are very intelligent, and wield powerful magic, which they use to gain enormous size and breathe fire. They have extremely long lifespans but are not immortal. While they are extremely polite, they are not always necessarily nice. They have ruled the world for millions of years and view the younger intelligent races as children: often amusing, potentially dangerous, helplessly ignorant, and sometimes useful as slaves, pets, or food.

- The Invisible Library: Irene and the other Librarians of the Library work to keep balance between the forces of order and chaos, embodied by the eternal conflict between dragons and Fae. Dragons represent the forces of order and exert their influence through an interdimensional monarchy structured around filial piety. Irene's first apprentice, Kai, is a dragon prince - much of the series' conflict stems from his identity.
- The Masked City: The second book in The Invisible Library series, wherein a warmongering Fae kidnaps Kai and Irene must infiltrate a Fae-controlled city to prevent outright war between dragons and Fae.
- The Lost Plot: The fourth book in The Invisible Library series, wherein Irene and Kai work to extract another Librarian from a dangerous situation involving two dragons in a power struggle.
- The Mortal Word: The fifth book in The Invisible Library series, wherein a murder disrupts a peace treaty between the dragon monarchs and powerful representatives of the Fae.

- The Obsidian Chronicles
- The Obsidian Trilogy: Dragons were once powerful forces of good in the ancient wars against demons, but bonding with a human or elf to grant magical power costs a dragon its immortality, so there are few left. The dragon Ancaladar bonds with the elf Jermayan and becomes a major character in the second book.
- The Enduring Flame Trilogy: One thousand years later, Ancaladar re-bonds with the protagonist Tiercel under unique circumstances. The antagonist is also bonded to a dragon, Saravasse.
- Of Cinder and Bone: Basically, Jurassic Park with dragons! Two MIT scientists, Dr. Rhett "Jack" Jackson and Dr. Kamala Anjali, clone a dragon to life from former extinction, but for the purpose of study, not to build a giant park. The series features 37 different species of dragon and it's science fiction, so said dragons are given real life scientific attributes.
- The Paper Bag Princess: The primary villain is a dragon.
- Pit Dragon Chronicles
- Princesses of the Pizza Parlor: Not clear at first, but it's implied in the later books that Lady Amberyll (who runs the Academy where the titular princesses get their schooling) is a dragon.
- The Priory of the Orange Tree: A critical re-examination of Saint George and the Dragon in eight hundred pages with warrior lesbians.
- Reincarnated as a Dragon Hatchling
- The Reluctant Dragon: A young boy befriends a poetry loving dragon but when the other villagers discover the dragon’s existence and send for Saint George to slay him, the boy, dragon and George come up with a plan to fake a battle for the villagers.
- Rowan of Rin: A dragon is a major plot point in the first book, and shows up again in the fourth. By the same author as Deltora Quest.
- Saint George and the Dragon
- Seraphina: Revolves around the tenuous, uneasy alliance between dragons and humans.
- Shatter the Sky: The story involves dragon riders very heavily, with protagonist Maren have a special bond with them. Dragons become main characters, and much of the plot involves Maren trying to free those whom the evil Empire of Zeved has enslaved.
- Slayers: The godly race usually take on the form of Western-style dragons, but they can assume human form if they so wish. Filia, a character from the third season, is a Golden Dragon (a race of dragons who are incredibly small but also incredibly intelligent and magical) who apparently isn't much used to her form as a blonde human female, her pointed tail frequently popping out from under her dress whenever she's emotionally excited.
- A Song of Ice and Fire: Features both Western-style dragons and Daenerys, the Dragon Queen/Queen of Dragons. Dragons were also highly important in the backstory, allowing the Targaryens to conquer Westeros, and its believed that the decline of dragons is linked with the decline of magic. So when the dragons return...
- A Game of Thrones: The dragons technically don't show up until the very end as they're believed extinct up to that moment, but early on Daenerys is gifted three dragon eggs, which she tries to hatch, and she frequently has dreams involving dragons.

- House of the Dragon: Prequel to the above. This one revolves around House Targaryen in their prime, so it features even more dragons than Game of Thrones and the plot is focused on the upcoming civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons.
- Kamen Rider:
- Kamen Rider Agito: The eponymous character is a western dragon based humanoid and the show implies that humans will become like Agito.
- Kamen Rider Ryuki: The hero, Ryuki, forms a contract with the dragon Dragredder and can use its power. A tie-in movie also features Ryuki's and Dragredder's Evil Twins, Ryuga and Dragblacker.
- The same applies to Kamen Rider Dragon Knight, Ryuki's American adaptation.
- Kamen Rider Wizard: There's an evil dragon monster sealed within the titular character, serving as the source of his powers.
- Kamen Rider Build: Build's ally and series Deuteragonist Kamen Rider Cross-Z uses draconic powers.
- Kamen Rider Saber: Both Saber and Calibur channel the powers of dragons (or, technically, stories of dragons) in their Rider forms.
- Merlin (2008): The dragon Kilgharrah is a recurring character for the first three seasons, serving as a mentor and ally to Merlin. The title character himself is revealed to be a Dragonlord, allowing him to communicate with and tame dragons.
