Orange Islands

     Orange Islands Recurring Characters

Professor Philena Ivy

Appears in: Main Story | Frax & Velvet Interlude (mentioned) | Lorelei Interlude | Head Gym Leader Drake Interlude (mentioned)

The local Pokémon Professor of the Orange Islands. She specializes in regional differences in Pokémon physiology.

  • Fantastic Racism: She's clearly very wary of bloodliners, even calling them a threat.

Tracey Sketchit

Appears in: Main Story (mentioned and Facebook photo) | Tracey Interlude | Oak & Hastings Gaiden (cameo)

A Pokémon Watcher from the Orange Islands, who occasionally does work for Pokémon Professors.

  • Artist's Block: Hits a pretty bad one after his submitted works for the Pokémon Association are harshly rejected by one of the judges. Thanks to Minuetto, he manages to break through it.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: While self-admittedly not much a battler, he can hold his own pretty well, as through his experience as a watcher he's learned where Pokémon can be struck for critical hits.
  • Big Brother Mentor: Becomes this to Minuetto while teaching him his tricks for Pokémon battling.
  • Big Creepy-Crawlies: His Scyther and Venonat.
  • Hero-Worshipper: As per canon, he's this to Samuel Oak.
  • Making a Splash: His Marill, obviously.
  • Nice Guy: Just like in canon, he's friendly to many people.

Tad

Appears in: Main Story

A trainer from the Orange Islands, who made it to the Top 64 of the current Indigo League Conference. He would later participate in the qualifier for the Whirl Cup, but lost to Misty in the first round.

Marina

Appears in: Main Story

A female trainer from the Orange Islands, who made it to the Top 64 of the current Indigo League Conference, and plans on competing in the next Whirl Cup, having done so in the last one.

  • Adaptational Badass: No indication exists that the canon Marina was a particularly remarkable trainer. The Reset version is a veteran of three different leagues, having won a total of twenty badges between Johto, the Orange Islands, and Kanto and competed in multiple League Conferences.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Appears during the Indigo League, instead of the Orange Islands.
  • Cuteness Proximity: She starts gushing over Misty's Wooper during their match, wishing she could have caught one for herself.
  • Friendly Rivalry: Quickly forms one with Misty during the Whirl Cup Qualifier.
  • Shipper on Deck: She refers to Ash and Misty as "lovers", much to the latter's embarrassment.

    Orange Crew Gym Leaders

Cissy

Appears in: Reset Bloodlines Holiday Special 2022

The Gym Leader of Mikan Island, and a Water-type specialist.

  • Cool Big Sis: To her little brother, Senta.
  • Making a Splash: She owns several Water-type Pokémon, and she plans to participate in the next Whirl Cup.
  • Promotion to Parent: Heavily implied, given the absence of their parents and her worries when she sees Senta doing lots of odd jobs to make money, as she considers that her job, not his.

Luana

Appears in: Main Story (mentioned) | Luana Gaiden | Head Gym Leader Drake Interlude | Reset Bloodlines Holiday Special 2022

The Gym Leader of Kumquat Island, who specializes in double battles. Her gym also doubles as a local hotel and resort.

  • Bad with the Bone: Her Marowak, obviously. This is demonstrated when it manages to inflict a serious injury on One Eye with it.
  • Big Creepy-Crawlies: Has a Butterfree with regional coloration on the wings.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: Her Marowak.
  • Evil-Detecting Dog: Both her Alakazam and Marowak scowled at the man who the story hints at being Travis's father. Given what we see of Travis's and more kids than you can count father in the Holiday Special 2017, they were quite right to be glaring at him.
  • Glamorous Single Mother: Owner of a popular luxurious hotel, so she's definitely on the well-off end of the single mothers spectrum.
  • Good Parents: She makes no secret that she loves her son Travis dearly.
  • Green Around the Gills: She almost throws up after One Eye eats his own damaged eye. Her face turns green as a visual indicator of her disgust.
  • Green Thumb: Her Bellossom.
  • Lonely Rich Kid: When she was young, she apparently didn't have any friends beside her Pokémon.
  • One-Steve Limit: Averted. She shares her name with a Ranger from Almia.
  • Psychic Powers: Alakazam, of course.
  • Raised by Grandparents: Since apparently her parents walked out a few years ago.

Drake

Appears in: Head Gym Leader Drake Interlude

Head Gym Leader of the Orange Islands and technically its champion. He and his Dragonite have remained undefeated for years.

  • The Ace: If Mabel's comments are any indication, he's never lost a battle.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: His Onix.
  • Fantastic Racism: He's rather wary of Bloodliners, although he isn't violent or particularly bigoted.
  • Flipping the Bird: Not him but his Dragonite does this to Gurkinn after an unpleasant conversation.
  • Green Thumb: His Venusaur.
  • Noodle Incident: At some point as a kid, he almost got killed by a Wigglytuff.
  • Our Dragons Are Different: His partner and strongest Pokemon is his Dragonite. He also captures an ill Salamence for the benefit of getting it aid.
  • Our Ghosts Are Different: His Gengar.
  • One-Steve Limit: Averted. He has the same name as one of Hoenn's Elite Four.
  • The Paralyzer: His Venusaur is skilled enough to attack a Mega Venusaur's pressure points to paralyze it.
  • Poisonous Person: His Gengar and Venusaur are both part Poison-types.
  • Poor, Predictable Rock: The fact that challengers have figured out his main strategy thanks to the internet is what makes him look for a new way to become stronger. Generally averted with his team though, as they possess a wide range of types and attacking moves.
  • Samus Is a Girl: His Electabuzz, a Pokemon with a masculine appearance and has a 75% chance of being male, is actually female.

  • Normal Fish in a Tiny Pond: He was considered a talented trainer in his hometown, which caused him to develop a bit of an ego. Unfortunately, when he started his journey, he found out the hard way there were many people who were as strong as or even stronger than him.
  • Reformed Bully: By the 2018 Holiday Special, he's genuinely trying to become a better person.

  • Badass Longcoat: The blue one from Colosseum.
  • Composite Character: With Chapter 26 hinting where he came from, Reset Wes appears to be his canon self at the moment, but his backstory is similar to that of the Mystery Dungeon Explorers protagonist, being an amnesiac from a bad future. Unlike said character however, he does not change species as a result.
