Reason: the AK's legendary reputation is actually totally bullshit. THE AK 47 was so bad that it was immediately redesigned entirely (into what Russians call simply the AK), and even then the AK and its derivatives, the AKM, 74, etc are infamous for failing to live up to their reputations as "give it to a child in Africa after termites have eaten away the wood in a soviet stockpile for three decades and it will work flawlessly" invulnerable guns. Generally, reliable models are ones made by people who weren't expected to fill quotas or be sent to a gulag, and who had access to the right materials and machinery to make them. The T-34 has similar problems: the design is reliable in theory, but, when made by Russia in a War economy where quantity was decided to be more important, they're grossly inferior to what they should be on paper. The gearbox was so bad that trying to shift into top gear would snap the transmission, and trying to shift into the gear below it required a hammer, which is why T-34 crews would carry a complete transmission as a spare on the back of the tank. Almost no T-34s from WWII actually exist to this day, with almost all the supposedly "war made" T-34s actually being post-WWII models at minimum, which had numerous upgrades and (unlike the WWII built ones) had all the parts that were listed in the design (half of all T-34s were made by one factory that started cutting corners by removing critical components, like the seats, the lights, the hatch seals, etc). And even those are largely propaganda pieces, painstakingly cared for to a degree that would bankrupt most museums, solely so that Russia can continue to spread the myth of the T-34's "superiority".
