X-Men '97 (Disney +): Continuation of X-Men: The Animated Series

I find that hard to believe given that this season has a lot taken from Krakoa in terms of lore, style, and themes. Hell, they basically use Genosha as a stand-in for Krakoa.

What is the difference between Genosha and Krakoa that makes this version of Genosha more like Krakoa? They’re both all-mutant states, right?

Both islands too. Mutants love islands.

Although, Genosha had a significant human population at one point which Krakoa never did.

Edit: Apparently when Magneto took over he drove out and/or killed the remaining human population of Genosha. Geez.

Krakoa is a living island and a lot more wack in terms of environment. Also has a twin island that is somehow filled with Omega-levels.

Dunno where they can go upstarting the “mutant dream” outside of Avalon or Krakoa in the future

They better rep Cyclops really well in future projects because this is best portrayal since Evolution.

Someone must really have a hate boner for Cyclops Wolverine and the X-Men (2009) cause its really funny reading any page with him with him being called a “doodoo stinky loser”

It's funny how perceptions has since changed on that, especially in response to Wolverine's overbearing popularity.

Now more and more people are calling out how incredibly toxic Wolverine's obsession with Jean is instead of thinking it's "cute" and that he deserves to be with her just cause he's "sad about her."

x5 If it makes you feel any better, the humans of Genosha used mutants as slave labor.

No wonder people really like Evolution Wolverine since they never went for that love triangle because you know… Jean is a minor for most of it.

I really like how 97 approached since they are carrying over from the original’s Wolverine development. He’s still in love but knows he shouldnt go into fits of rage or touching photographs just because he jelly

Genosha in this series is a combination of apartheid South Africa, the American Confederacy & a literal tourist trap in that they lure unsuspecting Mutant tourists & enslave them. And like the Confederacy, that was their entire economy.

That has to be illegal though. I'd imagine the mutants from some of countries are counted as citizens.

Well Genosha’s stick was luring mutants with promises of acceptance, so mutants from countries which do accept them weren’t likely to come while ones who do are likely coming to stay. Of course, X-Men were just visiting and were still enslaved, but America at the beggining of series had guy who openly called for mutants being put in interment camps running for president and winning, so it’s unlikely they would care.

In theory it's illegal but in practice Genosha had backing from corporations & people involved in the business of making Sentinels like Trask. It was also the birthplace of Master Mold.

Weirldly the guy who ran Genosha was a more nuanced villain than you'd expect.

So Cameron Hodge was given the responbilties of the worse things

Kaiseror, this is the Marvel universe, law is ALWAYS UNFAIR and ALWAYS on the side of the oppressor.

A man could get shot in the Marvel Universe and he'd be arrested for killing the guy who shot him, even as said guy is still alive and shooting other people.

With Krakoa its essentially a Mutant nation, created by Mutants, run by Mutants, for Mutants.

With the X-Men and various mutant characters in positions of authority like Black-Tom Cassidy running security and X-Force being repurposed as the equivalent to their own espionage agency like the CIA.

You get it.

So funny thing.

Episode 3, Madelyne is hitting everyone with their worst fears...except for Jubilee and Beast.

I guess that means that, out of everyone, they're the most emotionally stable.

Well, we also didn't see her do anything to Logan, but I'm assuming he did see something since there's no way she wouldn't have a lot to work with with him.

I thought Jubilee'd get a revisit of her first kidnapping by the Sentinels or that time she got tied up by Cortez who wanted a thing with Apocalypse in a Mayan temple. Yes that was real

I really hope whatever direction with Beast forever, he doesnt devolve into you know, his new characterization in the comics where he's basically leader of mutant KGB

Jubilee being the most mentally stable X-Man is the least surprising thing ever.

I think they're going more for having him develop into how he was in the Morrison/Wheadon era that the season is taking a lot from. Which is to say, he's still a good person and probably the most emotionally healthy of the main X-Men, but the traumas and trials he's been through have started catching up to him and he's trying not to crack under the pressure. I wouldn't be surprised if the next season of this adapts his arc in the Wheadon run of being tempted to take Kavita Rao's mutant cure and butting heads with Brand.

The full engagement into comic arcs especially modern stuff like Krakoa makes for very interesting high concept they can dabble in.

Krakoa is an interesting examination of a solar biopunk Utopian society, where all the Mutants are living together in one home and using their powers to their fullest extent like terraforming Mars.

Or stuff like the Children of the Vault, a race of genetically modified superhumans who live in an environment where time progresses faster so they are constantly evolving and improving.

Cable and Bishop had an interesting book about how they can take down a million Godlike brings with just themselves alone. The answer, a lot of pragmatism and dirty moves.

Apparently, Marvel barred DeMayo from using Deadpool on the show.

Of course, I heard this from Hollywood Handle.
