Character-Specific Pages (CSPs) are created when individual characters have so many trope examples that they can't reasonably be included on a shared page.
The Administrivia Character-Specific Pages policy details the rules that apply to these pages. All Character-Specific Pages must also follow the basic How to Create a Character Page policy, as well as the wiki's more general policies about spoilers and examples.
This cleanup thread handles the following tasks:
- Reviewing and approving new CSP proposals. All new potential CSPs must be reviewed and, if necessary, cleaned up before they're created.
- Agreeing on page names for new CSPs.
- Ensuring that wicks are updated when a new CSP is created.
- Reviewing existing CSPs if there's a concern that they need cleanup, or if it's believed that the character may no longer qualify for a page.
- Merging existing CSPs into other character pages when necessary.
- Ensuring that wicks are updated when a CSP is removed/merged.
- Creating, updating and cutting redirects, as necessary, to reflect these splits and merges.
Crowners are not normally required but, where appropriate, can be used to formalise decisions on any of these points.
If a character no longer qualifies for a CSP, it's often more practical to turn the CSP into a redirect than to cut the page entirely. This keeps the page history visible to users, and also helps to steer offsite 'inbound' traffic (search engine results) to the right place. With that in mind, cut requests for CSPs may be declined and referred to this thread if they don't have a clear consensus.
Comments linking back to this thread can be added to CSPs when needed - e.g. to confirm their creation was approved, to warn tropers that a cleanup is in progress, or to note the date and outcome of a more recent review.

Mod update 07 Mar 2024, reflecting new CSP policy, updated again 22 Mar 2024 to mention redirects for removed CSPs
- Other options must have been tried first, like splitting pages into further groups.
- The character's folder is cleaned up beforehand, fixing any Zero-Context Examples and Wall of Text entries and removing any outdated, misused, or non-character tropes.
- A character's folder is at least 6,000 words/40,000 characters (with spaces). Here is a byte counter.note
- The current character page bypasses technical limitations and requires a split up.
- A single character takes up the majority of a page or is disproportionately bigger than other folders.
Splitting a character into their own page is a major change and needs to be run by the community before it is enacted. Even if you believe a character meets these requirements, they should be run through this thread first. Having other tropers take a look can help spot issues you may not notice or believe to be issues.
Per How to Create a Character Page, character-specific pages should only include tropes that describe the character. These tropes should fall under Characterization Tropes or one of its related indexes, unless they're recurring character traits (distinctive things that the character does repeatedly). If you're unsure what counts as a character trope, you can ask the Are these Character Tropes? thread.
If you have concerns with a general character page, they have their own separate cleanup thread, as do the self-demonstrating character pages.

The supporting characters also needs to be split soon as it's already showing the size warning, but I'm hesitant to split it by series as Ultimate Alien and especially the reboot introduce far fewer new characters than the others and those pages would be significantly smaller. Open to suggestions on that subject.
Part of me also feels like the reboot incarnations should just be split off from the classic continuity entirely into Ben 10 (2016), but that'd be a whole other job in itself.

I gave Forever Knights their own page because they had like two individual Forever Knights scattered across each of the series pages and there was nowhere listing tropes about their overall organisation.
I feel like the only way we could merge them back is if the Villains pages had a complete reorganisation so that they were not categorised by series, and sorted by some in-universe way. Something like "Major/minor villains" or "Earth-based criminals" / "Galactic criminals" .etc.
For the Specials Villains, I'm fine with chucking each of them back to whatever series era they debuted in for now, except maybe Eon who made his main series debut in Ultimate Alien.
Yeah, Supporting Characters is long overdue for a split. Maybe Plumbers could get its own page.
Also, I fully support splitting off the Reboot continuity off into its own thing. I never liked how you'd have a character listing off classic stuff and then Reboot listed in the same folder.

Oh damn. Hmm, yeah maybe resplit Kayaba. I also moved two characters who aren't really antagonists back, which has gotten rid of the size limit warning for now.
On it. I could perhaps make it in full name (Akihiko Kayaba / Kayaba Akihiko) instead of simply Kayaba as was done earlier. The name has also been done in the main SAO as well, instead of nickname. Should I make it Akihiko Kayaba or Kayaba Akihiko, though?

I’m new to this thread, but I think Ridley from the Franchise/Metroid series should be re-split. Not only is his entry by far the longest on the Metroid - Space Pirates page, but it also encompasses multiple different forms he takes throughout the series and frankly looks like an entire character page crammed into a single folder (which is exactly what it is). Not to mention, he's also the second most recurring character in this Long Runner series, so it's not too crazy for him to have his own page.
Mother Brain's entry is pretty long, too, and also has another incarnation crammed into it, but that’s not exactly a hill I’m willing to die on, so it’s up to y’all.

Ohh, did not know that. In that case maybe just naming the page Kayaba is fine if no one else uses his first name.
I shared my thoughts above, it needs a big cleanup. But yeah merging Specials Villains and splitting Reboot seems to be the most logical first step.

@Remnant 43 - hi there. The next course of action on the page in question should only occur if a page-size warning/suggestion triggers, and following that, the page should be split into smaller groups before any character is considered for a CSP. Character prominence isn’t a factor. Hope that helps!

@4457: Yeah, as implied , the idea is to create character-specific pages only as an absolute last resort to keep a page from triggering the too-long notice, not just because someone happens to have a super-long folder. And even if creating a CSP is the only split available, we make sure there isn't misuse, walls of text, or other cruft that can be removed. Too much precedent for people treating CSPs as a "badge of honor" that they try too hard to make happen instead of letting them happen naturally.
So should I hold re-splitting Kayaba's page until the Too Long warning comes up again in the Abridged Antagonists page?

I've made some sandboxes for the Sony Spider-Man Universe character page and here's the byte count for each:
- SSU Protagonists (87,211 bytes)
- SSU Civilians (50,591 bytes)
- SSU Enemies (72,189 bytes)
It'll probably happen quite soon, but yeah guess there's no need atm.

Looking at Frozen's character page is there a reason to separate the entries? If I combine all the non-Arendelle pages together (including Hans, then it'll be a total of 232k bytes. Yeah I know a 2-part movie is on the way but it's still 2 1/2 years away and we can sort it out once they came out. If we exclude characters from the Frozen Heart novel, then the entry will be around 188k bytes, more than enough to hold whatever new characters the movies would have.
Anna and Elsa together are around 184k bytes and the main page is around 79k bytes. I don't feel good about merging one and the other separate so perhaps we put the sisters together in a new page. Something like Snow Sisters?

Looks like Final Fantasy VII Remake - Remake Main Characters is getting too long, there are currently three candidates that fit the current criteria (Cloud, Tifa and Aerith). Should we split one of them or all three? It would leave 101,227 bytes if we split the three.
- Cloud - 94,258 bytes
- Tifa - 66,940 bytes
- Aerith - 70,782 bytes
So Characters.Green Lantern Atrocitus and Characters.GL Red Lantern Corps both sit comfortably around 40K bytes. Safe to say I can merge Atrocitus into the RL Corps page?
