[up] Pretty sure Sutherland was announced way before this game was, so I doubt it.

I think that's what he meant, though, that they got Hayter for this precisely because he got shafted with Metal Gear. As an implied middle finger to Konami or something else.

Oh, I'm sure that's the case.

Konami's been making a lot of questionable decisions lately. Time will tell if it blows up in their face or actually works out for them.

I bet Gebel's not the real Big Bad. There's someone secretly manipulating him without even his knowledge. Maybe a surviving alchemist.

I hope the game actually looks like the mockups this time around, No. 9's looks are divisive as it is...

[up] How much was the tier for MN 9 that included the game? Bloodstained's is 28$, which is a lot for a KS game, suggesting they wanna make this game have a fairly polished look.

If it looks half as good as Xrd, I'll be happy.

Do people who donate get any input into the game?

[up]They say they'll be taking feedback. They'll probably have surveys and the like.

[up]Fuck, I really don't have the money to donate.

Someone tell them to come up with a less stupid name. And to make sure the game is one fun castle to really explore, not a bunch or shitty linear levels and a shitty not as fun castle like Portrait and Order.

Given the game's title and Iga's fascination with blood, I'm betting the crystals are crystallized blood.

Dumb, overcomplex names are just the bread and butter. Aria of Sorrow. Harmony of Dissonance. Portrait of Ruin. Lament of Innocence. Reshef of Darkness.

Wait, scratch that last one.

"Bloodstained: Reprise of the Darkness"

And yes. I'll be asking them to make the castle big, space-filling, and filled with secrets and artistic touches.

And I'll also ask them to design the castle "organically", a way that would make sense in context, rather than to design it like a series of levels to end in obvious boss fights.

Also, they finally made a $60 game + soundtrack backer level. Now I have to decide whether I want to lower my amount from $100 to $60...the oddest thing about the $100 level is that it contains a "physical" copy of the game that can be on Steam, but not a digital copy, which is included with higher backer levels...

What's wrong with the name? It refers to many things. The curse that crystalises the flesh and blood of its victims. The blood of enemies spilt by hero and villain alike, staining the ground and the soul. (A PAINTING OF THE SOUL!!) The "Ritual of the Night" is a reference to both Sot N and may refer to Gebel's ritual of summoning Castleva- I mean the demon castle. And it sounds cool to say. Like Blood Gun.

It just sounds so generic.

Seriously, it sounds like it could be a random '90s Anti-Hero comic.

Don't get me wrong, looking forward to this so hard but the name is easily the worst part of it to me. Not dissimilar to Shadows of the Damned.

there was nothing with the way Ecclesia was structured. it was good that they moved away from the sotn formula because they'd copypasted ad nauseaum for several games up until that point. instead ecclesia was more focused on its challenging difficulty, like the older castlevanias.

So Ecclesia is kind of a Metroidvania with Classicvania elements? That sounds interesting.

basically ecclesia has a bunch of fairly linear areas you can access from a world map. it's a lot more focused on its combat, which while not super deep, is pretty fun, with most of the bosses being pretty challenging. dracula's castle at the end is the most metroid-like it gets.

also the soundtrack is amazing and it has the best art direction of the ds castlevanias. i understand that people may not like the fact that it's more linear but it's one of my favorite games in the series still.

Oo E was either all about button mashing your right and left hand weapons or I was playing it wrong. I found it just kind of annoying to play.

most castlevania games aren't really much different from that, frankly. it's not like they ever had any kind of deep combat system.

No, that's not what I was complaining about. It's the physical act of mashing itself. The two-weapon system forced you to mash faster to get the most out of your attacks, while most of the older games had fairly slow attacks, so that you could just press the button every so often. It is physically uncomfortable to play.

Maybe it's not a bad game overall? I dunno, I never finished it. I hope this one isn't too much like it.

Magic attacks require/allow much slower mashing.

Which helps, since late in the game, you're probably going to eiher be using Nitesco or Ascia most of the time.

From what I remember different weapons required different mashing speeds, so you probably should have been maining the hammer or something similar.

Well, all I really remember in detail now is using lightning on a crab. I just remember disliking the system. And my brother who played it recently had the same complaint. I just thought it was a stupid design choice that served no purpose.

I would say that the idea was meant to be used for the whole Glyph Union system which let you mix two weapons into an Item Crash.

Except for the fact that like 90% of the unions were two copies of the same glyph.

Granted, the best one was a lopsided mix, but still.

also, my kingdom for Scutum on R, but I digress.
