If they continue the Bravely Default series, they should have a game with ATB.

Are you asking if I've played every every FF? Yes, though I didn't finish all of them and I haven't played XIII-2 yet.

I knew this game would come out one way or another. As I've repeatedly stated all over the net, I would have been legitimately shocked if it hadn't gotten localized.

The thing you have to realize about FFVII is that, although it's massively cliche by today's standards, back then it acted as the Trope Codifier for most of the supposed cliches it's filled with.

Rather than being set in a more traditional sword-and-sorcery setting, the world of FFVII was a blend of science fiction and fantasy that hadn't really been seen before in a video game. FFIV touched upon this briefly with the Lunarians and the Giant of Bab-Il, but FFVII took the futuristic setting and ran with it all the way to the end.

The story also had a very unique plot twist for the time: the main character Cloud's "heroic" personality was the result of false memories, which was an extremely unexpected and interesting twist when the game was first released.

The more traditional fantasy setting was re-established for IX, which was much more faithful to the series' roots, and people who dislike FFVII generally like XI a whole lot.

[up]I said take those discussions to the FF General Page. This is a thread about a new FF spinoff, not about the whole series.

[up]

I was responding to a post. And that post was in this thread, not that one.

If I posted this in the other thread, then the person I was replying to would've missed it.

[up]Then don't respond at all. Arguments can't continue if no one responds.

[up]It's too off-topic for this thread. Besides, these kinds of arguments are Flame Bait.

It's not your place to tell anyone that.

Besides, it's be hard to discuss a spinoff without occasionally dipping into the main series. That's just how it is. It's really not off-topic. It's not a bullseye, but were still hitting the same dartboard.

This isn't a spin off of Final Fantasy, though. It's its own thing, despite borrowing from classical Final Fantasy elements.

Compare and contrast whatever. It's equivocal to bringing up God of War in a DMC thread.

Zekefreek: Knock off the attitude, and keep the "I know better" tone that characterizes all your posts to yourself.

Waxing: You don't need to get onto people's throats for starting a discussion on what is essentially the sister series. Unless it turns into a prolonged derail or a Flame War, it isn't a problem.

Hm, I might be too late to chime in but I've finished the game quite some time ago. If anyone hangs around GFA Qs, you've likely seen my posts of mass appraisal for the game under the name Kumori-no-Yoru.

Otherwise, I could gladly answer any questions pertaining to the game. Easily in a toss up with FFIX for my favorite game~

[up] Well, that sounds good. What's your thoughts on the game actually coming over here? I'm ecstatic for it.

Also, any favorite classes? (Take this in spoilers if you want to.)

So, did they take words out of a hat for the title, or...?

Basically this is a Spiritual Sequel to 4 Heroes of Light, and I loved that game. Definitely buying even though some of the art style looks really urgh

[up] iirc Bravely Default is part of the battle system, and is referring to a verb/different meaning of default (I can't remember the details), and Flying Fairy is basically meant to make people think of FF.

The definition of default used by the game(failure to live up to obligations) is actually the word's main definition. So, grammatically, the title makes sense.

Also, Flying Fairy is also a major plot twist.

[up] @ Folt: (My apologies on a lot of text!)

A friend of mine at Square Enix's Japanese branch tipped quite a few people off on the localization for the game about two months prior to the official announcement, so I admit... I really wasn't too surprised when it was finally announced as I knew for quite some time it was west-bound, haha. There were rumors about its publisher on Neo GAF and Twitter around the time Siliconera dropped a rumor "confirmation" of sorts which were what yield some surprising results as Square apparently did not even consider the game for an overseas release until around February this year.

However, I'm happy the game is making it over — It's easily one of Square Enix's better games in recent times, easily up there with Type-0, and it's proof they can still provide good games if they find a motivated team to do so. In Silicon Studio's case, they're a highly motivated team and definitely care about what they're working on. They won quite a few awards for the game yet they still think they didn't do that great on the game, but it goes to show they like to hone their own abilities in developing a game as much as possible.

I'd only tell people not to expect it to be original by any means. It's the fact it rolls up good aspects of RP Gs from the 90's with RP Gs of today and presents it in a feasible package is what makes it pretty solid. There's arguably only one problem I have with the game, to which it's the "Groundhog Day" Loop that goes on for about 4 - 5 times in a row.

Favorite class...? Hm, I would say Dark Knight easily. It's very powerful on its own as end game allows the class to hit for 50k per turn at the cost of dropping your HP to 1 and casting Doom on yourself. If you've a White Mage in the party (or as a sub-class), you'll find it easy to set up for another 50k the next turn due to how the Brave and Default system works.

Hunter class is pretty cute, and surprisingly useful, too. Every class has a use in some form (even the Freelancer), though it's easy to tell which classes have a better use over others — such as the aforementioned Dark Knight being a powerhouse. I recall a team of them can down the game's bonus boss in a turn with the right set up.

[up] @ Moth13: Verily. It's a 5-round boss against Ouroboros. However, there's a neat thing in the backdrop for the final boss. You can actually see parts of the background as captured by your 3DS's camera. I never noticed it on my first run until a friend asked me to replay it to observe it.
