Basic Trope: Volcanoes always erupt.
- Straight: In Alice and Bob: The Movie, they go to an island with a volcano. In the middle of the film it erupts.
- Exaggerated:
- In the middle of the film, all the volcanoes in the world erupt.
- The volcano is a supervolcano.
- Downplayed: The volcano starts smoking, but doesn't quite erupt.
- Justified: The volcano was dormant, but not extinct.
- Inverted: A volcano that people say will erupt doesn't.
- Subverted: The volcano keeps looking like it may erupt but doesn't.
- Double Subverted: It does in The Stinger.
- Parodied: The volcano can talk, and says "Don't say I won't erupt, or I will!"
- Zigzagged:
- The volcano appears like it might erupt several times before actually erupting.
- The volcano does erupt early on before going quiet and it is assumed it has calmed down before it is revealed that it was just a prelude to the real, much worse, eruption.
- Averted: The volcano does not erupt.
- Enforced:
- The writers say "We need the volcano on that island to do something".
- The documentary/Historical Fiction centers on one of the volcano's better known eruptions. note
- Lampshaded: "It's gonna erupt. I can tell."
- Invoked: The Big Bad rigs the volcano to cause an explosive, volcanic reaction.
- Exploited: Warriors use the lava as a weapon.
- Defied: The characters refuse to go anywhere near a volcano for fear of invoking this trope.
- Discussed:Alice: Is this volcano gonna erupt?
Bob: Ah, don't worry, it ain't erupted in years!
Carol: Don't say that!! Now, it's bound to erupt!
Dave: That assumption is not logical. - Conversed: "There's a volcano in this film. What's to bet it'll erupt?"
