A Scooby Story is a series of web videos in which a four-year-old boy named Scooby celebrates his birthday with a certain purple dinosaur who comes to "sing some songs and play some games." However, this is not all Barney has in store for Scooby, as he will learn throughout the series.
The series was originally a series of stories told to sixth-grade students at Walden West before being uploaded to YouTube. This series contains multiple pop culture references and many, many Running Gags and Catch Phrases.
Not to be confused with Scooby-Doo.
The following tropes are present in A Scooby Story:
- Black Guy Dies First: Morpheus is the first death in the series. He comes back as "Obi-Wan Baloney", though.
- Catchphrase: Several.
- "Cool, man, cool."
- "That's messed up."
- "I'm strong!"
- "Let's get ready to RUMBLE!!!!!!"
- Cerebus Syndrome: The series took a Darker and Edgier turn at the end of Episode II with The Reveal that Barney was going to take over the world.
- Running Gag: Scooby saying a number, then holding up the wrong amount of fingers.
- Shout-Out:
- "All the Purple Things" is a shout-out to blink-182's "All the Small Things".
- Barney's version of "Stayin' Alive" by The Bee Gees.
- "Follow the white rabbit" from The Matrix, followed by Morpheus himself appearing.
- Some of the shows Scooby finds are Jeopardy!, Happy Days, and Sesame Street.
- Scooby has a "Mintendo Wiiii!", which he uses to play Mario Kart.
- "Oh, Star Wars, I love you." Songs from its soundtrack are frequently used in the videos, including the intro and credits.
- The Teletubbies are Barney's minions.
- Seven tails were given to The Smurfs, five to The Muppets, and three to the humans, but only the One Tail, forged deep in Mt. Snuffleupagus, is the true Tail of Power.
- In order to get to Mt. Snuffleupagus, Scooby must walk through Mister Rogers' Neighborhood and the Blue's Clues Canyon.
- Would Hurt a Child: Barney slaps Scooby in the face with a spatula.
