180 Files: The Aegis Project is a choice-based Interactive Fiction game, written by Karelia Hall and published by Choice of Games.
- The Ace: 100 is explicitly described as such. Also applies to the MC.
- Bavarian Fire Drill: Several options, including at various points the impersonation of lawyers, police officers and employees of Hanson Technologies.
- Black-Tie Infiltration: At the beginning of the climax, if the MC goes in via the main entrance after their previous cover has been blown.
- Black-and-Gray Morality: The MC can consider the conflict between the IIA and DIABLO to be this. You've only got the moral high ground because DIABLO has drilled into the bedrock.
- Bomb Disposal: Possible with both an activated and unactivated bomb.
- Bond Villain Stupidity: Displayed both by Angel and on some paths by Faustus. Partly justified in the former case as Angel not wanting to be at the scene once the MC dies and their tracking chip notifies the IIA. The MC can still point out that Angel didn't have to wait for them to wake up.
- Brainwashing for the Greater Good: Hercules believes he's doing this.
- Broken Ace: The MC is one of the IIA's top agents, but hasn't been on active duty for a year at the start of the game due to a traumatic event that happened at the time. 100 is also heavily implied to be this.
- Checkpoint Bluff: Another infiltration option in the finale, this time if going in with Angel.
- Code Name: 180 for the MC. In general, the IIA uses numbers, while DIABLO is slightly more pretentious in its naming scheme.
- Deadly Gas: Used as a diversion by Faustus.
- Death Trap: Three of them. Disabling them all unlocks an achievement.
- Decoy Damsel: Angel, as Crystal/Jet/Jasper.
- Delivery Guy Infiltration: Again, during the endgame, this time with 100.
- Did Not Die That Way: The MC finding out their parents were actually assassinated by DIABLO in one of the background options had a severe impact on them.
- Femme Fatale Spy: The female version of Angel.
- Gadget Watches: 100 has one.
- Goggles Do Something Unusual: One of the gadgets the MC can use is a pair of X-Ray Glasses.
- Good Cop/Bad Cop: Twice, once while actually pretending to be a cop.
- Handicapped Badass: In one of the background options the MC lost their left hand a year before the start of the game. Despite the prosthetic being “lacking in fine dexterity”, there's no stat loss or higher stat requirement that implies the MC is less capable because of it.
- The Handler: 313's job.
- Heroic B So D: The MC had one prior to the start of the game. They also have one in-game if the lost hand background is picked.
- Honey Trap: Seems to be Angel's modus operandi. The MC can also string Gareth and Hex along for information.
- Impersonating an Officer: Can happen on several occasions.
- Intrepid Reporter: Vicki.
- Janitor Impersonation Infiltration: One of the ways to gain access to Atkinson's apartment.
- Lost Lenore: Nick/Nina. The MC's fiancé/e in one of the background options. They're killed in a terrorist attack.
- Mad Scientist: Hercules Hanson and Faustus.
- Mad Scientist's Beautiful Daughter: Or child, rather. Hex, although they're also a scientist themselves.
- Mind-Control Device: The Aegis chip.
- The Mole: The ending confirms there's a mole in the IIA.
- The Name Is Bond, James Bond: How the game phrases the MC's name when asking the player to confirm it.
- Nebulous Criminal Conspiracy: DIABLO works with various lower level criminal organizations, including terrorists and crime syndicates.
- Nebulous Evil Organization: DIABLO.
- "Not So Different" Remark: Angel makes this claim if a principled MC lets the gas cannister go off.
- Real Name as an Alias: The MC uses their real first name when undercover at Dante's Casino.
- Recovered Addict: Gareth.
- Refuge in Audacity: A strategy frequently used by the MC if they have a high Audacity stat.
- Sequel Hook: The epilogue.
- Shark Pool: Crocodile pit, rather. Angel's original strategy for disposing of the MC.
- Silver Fox: 100 is at one point described as being “pretty much the dictionary definition of silver fox”.
- Spies Are Lecherous: The MC can be played this way.
- Spy Versus Spy: Neither the IIA nor DIABLO work for a specific government.
- Theme Naming:
- DIABLO codenames are references to Christian mythology. (Except for Professor Maleficio. Perhaps they didn't get the memo?)
- Hercules and Hecate (Hex's original name) Hanson are alliterative and come from Greek mythology.
- Peter and Paul Fairlie are both named after apostles.
- This Page Will Self-Destruct: The letter the MC can get from Azazel crumbles when it comes into contact with air.
- Time Bomb: If the bomb the MC is trying to dispose of is activated.
- Tuxedo and Martini: A pastiche, most obviously during the mission at Dante's Casino.
- What Measure Is a Mook?: Largely averted, with the only people the MC can kill being named characters. They can, however, leave several mooks to die in a gas attack. Later on, the deaths of Paul and Faustus are mentioned and possibly regretted by the MC, but the mooks don't get a mention. Made even worse by the fact that they were being mind controlled at the time.
- Writing Indentation Clue: If the MC finds a notebook with a missing page, they consider using this method to find out what the contents were.
