- Acting for Two: In the English dub:
- Greg Chun voices both Ryuro Hirotsu and Natsume Soseki. Until season 4 where Saab and Chase replaced him for both roles
- Erica Lindbeck voices both Akiko Yosano and Naomi Tanizaki.
- Ben Diskin voices Michizou Tachiwara (until season 4 where he's replaced by AJ Beckles) and the Director of Atsushi's orphanage.
- Carrie Keranen voices Ichiyou Higuchi and Elise.
- John Demita voices Herman Melville and Santouka Taneda.
- David Vincent voices Sakunosuke Oda and Ōchi Fukuchi.
- Cherami Leigh voices both Kyouka Izumi and Teruko Okura.
- Starting with Season 4 Ray Chase voices both Fyodor and Soseki.
- Actor-Shared Background: Patrick Seitz, who was previously a high school teacher, plays Kunikida, who was also previously a teacher in his backstory.
- All-Star Cast:
- Yoshimasa Hosoya, Mamoru Miyano, Hiroshi Kamiya, Rikiya Koyama, Kensho Ono, the list goes on...
- The English dub is no slouch either. Kaiji Tang, Max Mittelman, Ben Diskin (for the first 3 seasons), Cristina Vee, Cherami Leigh, etc.
- Bonus Episode: The episode "Walking Alone" was released the year after the first two seasons as an OVA, bundled with the manga's 13th volume. Unusually for a Bonus Episode, it is officially counted as episode 25 of the series and is fully integrated into the story, with plot developments and new characters who reappear in later seasons.
- Colbert Bump: So many fans wanted to check out Osamu Dazai's No Longer Human for themselves that Donald Keene's translation became the #1 best-selling Japanese book on Amazon.
- The Other Darrin:
- The voice actor of Ranpo was replaced from Vic Mignogna to Landon McDonald from Season 3 onwards.
- Alejandro Saab is now voicing Souseki Natsume instead of Greg Chun as of Season 4.
- Ray Chase also replaced Chun as Ryuurou Hirotsu starting for season 4.
- A.J. Beckles replaced Ben Diskin as Michizo Tachihara from season 4 onwards due to Diskin cutting his ties with Crunchyroll.
- Playing Against Type:
- Kensho Ono, normally known for playing soft-voiced boys, is the Ax-Crazy Akutagawa.
- Daisuke Ono and Robbie Daymond as a Smug Snake who dies in the episode he debuted in.
- Kana Hanazawa, who usually voices shy, cute girls like Red Blood Cell and Nadeko Sengoku, is the psychotic Lucy. (which is kind of subverted in her Heel–Face Turn later).
- Nicolas Roye as Chuya Nakahara, a Gangster with a Hair-Trigger Temper in contrast to someone like Mikey Kudo.
- Kaiji Tang, who usually voices characters with a baritone, uses a slightly high-pitched voice for Dazai.
- Latin-American example: Melissa Gedeon, who normally plays cheerful, enthusiastic characters such as Pinkie Pie is cast as Q, a violent, Ax-Crazy little boy who is considered The Dreaded by nearly everyone.
- Same Voice Their Entire Life: The Fifteen arc showcases Dazai and Chuuya back when they were fifteen, keeping the same dub and sub actors that portray the present-day versions in their twenties. Dazai sounds normal enough overall, though Chuuya is still given an incredibly deep voice in the sub which can be jarring to hear since he's extremely small and Older Than They Look.
