During a wild pre-Halloween Party at her university, Bonnie is troubled by exam finals and a bad cold. After taking medicine to ease her symptoms, she sees a gorilla take a girl into an apartment, and a minute later, the gorilla is seen strangling her. Her attacker sees Bonnie, but she passes out unconscious, thanks to the sleep aid in the cold medicine.
After telling about what occurred the night before to Devon, Michael and K.I.T.T. investigate the mysterious goings-on and the suspicious characters they encounter, but the killer is slowly closing in on Bonnie...
Tropes:
- Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: The killer spends the episode being a typical nice and charming guy before being revealed as the one who's been terrorizing Bonnie and trying to kill her as well.
- Death Trap: The garage where the missing corpse is located. Michael and Bonnie found that out the hard way, with poisonous gas pumped into it. Luckily, K.I.T.T. got them out.
- Gaslighting: Bonnie is subjected to this by a ransacked room, and horrifying illusions thanks to a hidden holographic projector.
- Halloween Episode: Well, yeah, it's right there in the episode name.
- Huge Holographic Head: An imp's head appears in the bathroom mirror, giving Sdrawkcab Speech with Bonnie after she enters.
- Leitmotif: A modern rendition of the "The Madhouse" theme from Psycho, complete with "Psycho" Strings in certain scenes.
- Never Found the Body: Bonnie sees the girl as she is strangled in the apartment across from her, but when Michael goes into said apartment to inspect it, no corpse. When Bonnie runs the water into her tub, she finds the body, screams, and runs to find Michael, only to find the tub empty when they arrive.
- Old, Dark House: Ah, yes. The Old Bates House from Psycho... complete with spooky and threatening crows, equally ominous and overcast skies, spooky theme music, lightning and thunderclouds... and the missing corpse!
- Themed Party: Devon holds one to lure the suspected killer out of hiding... it works like a charm.
- "Rear Window" Witness: Poor, poor Bonnie.
- Red Herring: A prominent suspect in the episode is the building's young caretaker, who is an obvious Expy of Norman Bates. He seems to be ruled out as a suspect about halfway through the episode, only to seem to be about to attack Bonnie in the finale. It turns out he just has almost no social intelligence or judgement and was just trying to express romantic interest in her, and the real culprit turns out to be someone else entirely.
- Shout-Out:
- The murder in the apartment across from Bonnie's? The body in the tub, the creepy-looking house on that hill later on, and a guy named Norman...? You can bet it's all a very scary homage to Alfred Hitchcock.
- The pumpkin mask that Bonnie's date was wearing at the party? If you see the little medallion on the side of it, you'd know for sure that it was from Halloween III: Season of the Witch.
