Sometimes, a hug is a very good thing.
- Accidental Hug: Spontaneously hugging, then awkwardly pulling away.
- Air Hugging: A hug with no physical contact.
- And Call Him "George": Dangerously smothering something with affection.
- Bear Hug: The Big Guy gives a hug to another character, often lifting them into the air in the process.
- Killer Bear Hug: A Bear Hug meant to crush the other character to death.
- Big Damn Hug: A hug is treated as Serious Business to emphasize a highly emotional moment.
- Big Damn Reunion: Two or more characters reunite, and may or may not share a hug, after being apart for a long time.
- Cooldown Hug: A character having a Freak Out or Super-Power Meltdown is given a hug to calm them down.
- Interrupted Cooldown Hug: A character who has been given a Cooldown Hug is attacked by a Trigger-Happy Leeroy Jenkins
- Cry into Chest: A character breaks down crying into their partner's chest.

- Final First Hug: A character only truly expresses affection for someone else when that someone is dying.

- Group Hug: A hug between a tight circle of friends.
- Hug and Comment: Two people hug and one of them makes an unexpected comment.
- Man Hug: Two men share a hug.
- Marshmallow Hell: A woman smothers someone in her breasts.
- Now Allowed to Hug: Someone formerly reluctant to hug allows others to hug him/her.
- Overly Long Hug: A hug that goes on a little too long.
- Rescue Hug: Catching someone who's falling leads to a hug.
- Revealing Hug: Facial expressions made during a hug reveal ulterior motives.
- Security Cling: Grabbing onto another person in response to something scary or distressing.
- Tuck and Cover: Covering someone with your body to protect them from an explosion or something similar.
- Twirl of Love: Two people (usually lovers) embrace and begin spinning.
- The Un-Hug: An attempt at hugging only makes it look awkward.
