A Show Within the Show on Rocko's Modern Life created by Rachel Bighead, formerly credited as Ralph Bighead.
It stars three characters:
- Betty Baloney, the only female.
- Sal Ami.
- And Mr. Cheese (or Lester Roquefort), the best character on the show, better than the salami and the baloney combined.
The show is about them having weird adventures in the deli where they were created.
The show was actually Rachel Bighead's attempt at getting fired so she could do other stuff. But the executives forced her to make another show after the success of her previous series Meet the Fatheads. Soon, she decided to embrace her job, and so tried to run the show on her own, which ended up leading to its demise.
Wacky Delly contains examples of:
- Animate Inanimate Object: The entire cast is made up of these.
- Anthropomorphic Food: A salami, a baloney and Wacky Delly's best charakter, a cheese.
- Anti-Hero: Sal Ami can be one, Depending on the Writer.
- Black Comedy Cannibalism: Sal Ami eats Betty, but Mr. Cheese, who's better than the other two combined, survives.
- Bowdlerise: A scene where Sal Ami whacks Betty Baloney with a telephone was edited out in later runs, though this may have less to do with Betty being a girl, and more with time constraints.
- Cartoon Cheese: The best character of the show Mr. Cheese, of course.
- Catchphrase:
- Sal Ami: "I HATE BALONEY!''
- Betty Baloney: "Oh boy! What a beautiful day!"
- Mr. Cheese: "I am the cheese! I am the best character on the show! I am better than both the salami and the baloney combined!"
- Crossdressing Voices: Betty is voiced by a male wallaby named Rocko.
- Deranged Animation: And how! Most of the show consists of cartoon violence (including Sal Ami beating up Betty Baloney with a telephone), and no plot whatsoever.
- Disney Death: Betty Baloney comes back to life seconds after being bludgeoned to death.
- Exactly What It Says on the Tin: "10 Minutes of Mayo"
- Fantastic Racism: Sal Ami really hates Baloney.
- Flat Character: Mr. Cheese has almost no personality, but he's still the best character of the show.
- Better than the salami and baloney combined, in fact.
- Genki Girl: Betty Baloney.
- Genre Shift: Season 2 took a drastically different direction from season 1 by abandoning the more comedy-oriented structure of season 1 and opting for a more artistic direction. Needless to say, it didn't go over well with viewers and led to the show's swift demise.
- Ham and Cheese: Mr. Cheese is better than the ham, who doesn't show up, because he knows that he's not as good as Mr. Cheese.
- Leave the Camera Running: "10 Minutes of Mayo", as the name implies, is an episode consisting of nothing but a jar of mayonnaise sitting motionless on a table.
- Limited Animation: Especially the episode "10 Minutes of Mayo". It's just a jar of mayo on screen.
- Even more so with another episode comprised entirely of overexposed footage.
- Minimalist Cast: Only 3 persons: A salami, a baloney and Mr. Cheese (who is the best, better than the other two combined.)
- Moral Guardians: The media painted Wacky Delly as a major threat to the country because of its "confused morals".
- No Fourth Wall: Mr. Cheese wants to remind you he is the best character on the show.
- No Indoor Voice: Sal Ami screams over the phone.
- Only the Creator Does It Right: Subverted. Rachel Bighead delegated most of the work to other artists early on, with the fan-favourite debut episode featuring almost no input from her at all. When she took a more hands-on role at the end of the show's run, critical and commercial reception plummeted instantly, leading to the show's cancellation mid-episode.
- The Power of Cheese: He is the best character on the show, better than the salami and baloney combined.
- Punny Name: Sal Ami.
- Reaching Between the Lines: Sal Ami attacks Betty Baloney through the phone.
- Shout-Out:
- "Ten Minutes of Mayo" is one to the works of Andy Warhol.
- During the first episode, we hear both Goofy's yodel and his signature holler.
- Small Name, Big Ego: Mr. Cheese, who says he's the best character of the show.
- Spiritual Successor: To Rachel Bighead's previous series Meet the Fatheads.
- Springtime for Hitler: Meta-example, as Rachel Bighead had intended for the show to fail, to the point of attempting to sabotage production.
- The Smurfette Principle: Betty Baloney is the only female of the three.
- They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: The second season was a massive departure from the first, and fan reaction was very negative.
- True Art Is Incomprehensible: Inverted and played straight. "Ten Minutes of Mayo" and the overexposed episode seem incomprehensible but were hailed as brilliant, while the second-season episodes that went in a more artistic (and narratively-coherent) direction turned off the audience.
- Vomit Indiscretion Shot: One episode has Sal Ami grabbing Mr. Cheese, eating him, and then puking him out.
- Would Hit a Girl: Sal Ami has no qualms about whacking Betty Baloney with a telephone. But see Bowdlerise above.
