The Last Slumber Party is a 1988 Slasher Movie directed and co-written by Stephen Tyler. No, not that one.
After learning he's scheduled for lobotomy at Oak Ridge Memorial Hospital, an extremely volatile mental patient named Mr. Randles (a name only used near the end of the film) disguises himself as a surgeon and escapes. Seeking revenge on his keeper, Dr. Sickler, Randles begins making his way to the good doctor's house, bloody scalpel in hand.
As the escaped maniac stalks around town, three girlfriends, one of whom is Sickler's daughter, plan to celebrate the start of summer vacation by holding a slumber party, intended to be a host for sex and debauchery.
Of course, Randles happens to crash the party when it gets into full swing, sneaking into the house via a ladder left by the boys. Deciding to vent on Sickler's family and everyone else under his roof, Randles sets about making sure this is a slumber party no one will forget... because it'll be The Last Slumber Party!
An obvious cash-in on the success(?) of The Slumber Party Massacre series, one of those responsible for this film's creation, executive producer Bill F. Blair, has gone on record stating that he considers it "the worst film ever made". And this comes from someone responsible for such schlock as Blood Cult, Forever Evil (1987) and Terror at Tenkiller, the latter being available on a DVD double feature with Last Slumber Party released in 2004.
Taken to task by RiffTrax in 2014.
The last trope party:
- Accidental Murder: Sensing someone behind her, Chris whips around and juts her knife out, stabbing Scott.
- All Just a Dream: In the end, it's revealed that the entire plot is, in fact, Linda having a nightmare. However, it goes into Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane when it's possible she had a premonition about the murder of her friends and family, as the movie's ending seems to imply they still end up dead anyway.
- All Men Are Perverts: Not counting the father, Scott, and the killer, every other guy in the film is obsessed with sex.
- Ax-Crazy: Randles. It's a slasher movie. What do you expect?
- Blonde, Brunette, Redhead: Tracy, Chris, and Linda all have these respective hair colors.
- Blood from the Mouth: Billy, and Chris (in her Dream Within a Dream).
- Blood Is Squicker in Water: Chris gets her throat slit in the Sickler's pool.
- But Liquor Is Quicker: "Oh come on, Linda, we didn't fill you full of Jack Daniels so you could fall asleep."
- Carpet of Virility: Tommy is perpetually horny and has a hairy chest.
- Catapult Nightmare: It turns out the entire film is just a Dream Sequence by one of the girls, but the problem is the ending implies that she and her friends and family still end up dead by not heeding her warning about the dream.
- Coincidental Broadcast: A news report about Randles' escape comes on as Randles enters the house.
- Creator Cameo: The teacher is played by co-writer Jim Taylor.
- Daddy's Girl: Chris, according to Tracy.
- Death by Mocking: Billy and Tommy both notice something unusual might be going on, but decide to act immature rather than cautious. And it definitely bites them in the ass.
- Decoy Protagonist: Linda. It's revealed to be Chris.
- Dope Slap: Billy to Scott, after he lets out that they've had beers while talking to Doctor Sickler.
- Downer Ending: After it's revealed the events of the film were a prophetic dream had by Chris, it's shown that Randles really did escape, and he attacks Linda in her home, just as Tracy and Chris arrive.
- Dreaming of Things to Come: It turns out the entire film was Chris having a nightmare, but then it turns out Randles actually has escaped, and the film ends with him breaking into the Sickler home just as Chris and Tracy stop by.
- Dream Within a Dream: "I even had a nightmare within the nightmare! God, I must be fucking crazy!"
- Driven to Suicide: An asylum patient attempts it, causing Sickler to work late.
- Dull Surprise: The cast suffers from it, especially Dr. Sickler.
- The '80s: Quite apparent from the fashion, the use of a house phone, and the girls' general attitudes.
- Enter Stage Window: How most characters gain access to the Sickler house.
- Everybody Lives: Well, up until the real ending. It's shown to be just a dream, but it's possible it was also a premonition.
- Everything's Deader with Zombies: Linda and Tracy in Chris's Dream Within a Dream.
- Evil Overlooker: This◊ foreign cover.
- Evil vs. Evil: School whipping boy Science decides to take revenge on his tormentors, killing Billy, and coming close to murdering Linda, only to have Randles slit his throat.
- Expy: Randles, and Harold from Hospital Massacre.
- The Faceless: Mr. Randles. He wears a surgical mask for the entire duration of the movie and never takes it off.
- Facial Horror: Characters who do not have their throat slit are cut across the face, somehow killing them.
- Fainting: After stabbing Mr. Randles, Chris faints.
- Final Girl: Linda screams this, but dies, leaving the position to be taken up by the decidedly unpure Chris.
- Flashback: We're shown Mr. Randles attacking Doctor Sickler, after the former finds out he is scheduled for a lobotomy.
- Gender-Blender Name: Chris is female.
- Happily Married: Doctor and Mrs. Sickler, though there are rumors...
- Heavy Sleeper: An orderly dozes off at the bus stop, and sleeps through a nurse being slashed to death right next to him.
- High-Pressure Blood: The only worthwhile gore scene is when Mr. Randles gets stabbed in the chest, causing some jets of blood.
- Hospital Hottie: A couple of hot nurses have a brief scene towards the middle of the film.
- Icy Blue Eyes: The bug-eyed Mr. Randles.
- Jerk Jock: Tommy. He's extremely immature and horny all the time, so no one really misses him once he gets bumped off.
- Kubrick Stare: Randles does this all the time, to the point that one might assume his head is just stuck like that.
- Malevolent Masked Men: Randles ties a surgical mask over his face during the opening credits and it stays on for the remainder of the movie.
- Menacing Stroll: The killer has one and does this ad nauseum in the third act.
- Murderer P.O.V.: As expected of the genre, there are constant shots from the killer's POV.
- Nerd Glasses: The character whose nickname for some reason is Science has them, naturally.
- Nightmare Sequence: Chris randomly dreams about being terrorized by her friends (including undead Linda and Tracy) before being stabbed to death by Mrs. Sickler and waking up.
- Noodle Incident: References to catastrophes that occurred at previous parties, like a Bohemian football player throwing up all over the place, or a car being driven into a pool.
- Not Quite Dead: Linda seemingly drops dead after letting Chris back in the house, only to show up later ("Chris, get help...") and drop dead again. And after being stabbed, Randles seems to die, but nope, he was just knocked out.
- Offscreen Teleportation: To ludicrous extremes. The killer is not supernatural, but he appears to just appear and disappear soundlessly at will.
- Ominous Walk: It ends with Randles being stabbed by Chris.
- Only Known by Their Nickname: Science. No other name is given.
- Peek-a-Boo Corpse: Most of the dead bodies are discovered in the final act of the film.
- Pool Scene: Seeing Sickler's body floating in a pool, Chris wades out to it, and has her throat slit by Randles.
- Poster-Gallery Bedroom: Linda's room is the stereotypical girly room...except for a Sesame Street poster that is bizarrely out of place in a teen girl's room.
- Redheaded Hero: Chris has red hair.
- Red Shirt: The nurse and orderly at the bus stop.
- Scream Discretion Shot: The real ending. It's unclear as to if everyone ends up dead all over again, but it sure sounds like it ended up that way.
- Sexy Silhouette: Chris, behind a shower curtain.
- Shirtless Scene: Both Tommy and Billy get one each.
- Shower Scene: Chris has a rather long, fanservice-y one during the film.
- Slap-Slap-Kiss: Chris and Tommy seem to hate each other as much as they enjoy sleeping with each other.
- Slashed Throat: Every non-Facial Horror death in the film is the villain slicing their throat with his scalpel.
- Slumber Party: One girl's friends decide to have a sleepover, which unfortunately also leads to everyone being murdered, including their useless boyfriends too.
- Those Two Guys: Billy and Tommy, with third wheel Scott aka nicknamed Science.
- Token Wholesome: Linda is basically the only nice person in the group.
- Too Dumb to Live: Instead of running away and getting help after realizing a killer is in the house, Chris instead grabs a knife and begins wandering around, a course of action that merely results in her accidentally killing Scott, and briefly knocking out Randles.
- Totally Radical: "Yeah, man, like wow, mellow out."
- Vader Breath: The audience hears the killer's breathing during some of his POV shots.
- Villain Opening Scene: Randles suiting up in surgical attire and acquiring a scalpel.
- The Voiceless: Mr. Randles never speaks throughout the entire film.
- What Happened to the Mouse?: Linda's cat is featured early on, then disappears from the movie.
- Who's Laughing Now?: Science, up until he is anticlimactically killed by Randles.
- Wild Teen Party: The teens attempt to have one of these after the host's mother has gone to bed, but it's not a real one; it's just them drinking and complaining about their shitty boyfriends trying to prank them.
- With Friends Like These...: Almost everyone in the film acts like a complete jackass, making you wonder what on Earth made them friends in the first place. Especially the girls and their respective boyfriends, who trade flat insults like they're in an arranged marriage.
