The fifth entry in the Sharknado franchise, following Sharknado: The 4th Awakens. It aired on August 6, 2017.
The shark-filled storms become stronger and stronger until the sharknadoes become global. Fin Shepard and his wife April must take up the fight once again, and it becomes personal when their son Little Gil gets sucked into a sharknado.
Followed by The Last Sharknado: It's About Time.

- Amazon Brigade: Led by Olivia Newton-John, no less!
- Artistic License – Physics: The sharks smash right through stone structures like The Sphinx and Big Ben. In real life, they would have turned into paste on impact.
- Apocalypse How: Pretty much the messing with the artifact and going to Egypt lead to the entire world being wiped out.
- Beam Spam: The upgraded chainsaw provided by the Pope has this mode. A useful feature should the wielder ever find himself aloft and surrounded mid-Sharknado.
- Body of Bodies: Tokyo is attacked by an immense, swirling mass of sharks and toxic waste, which takes on the form of a giant shark.
- British Royal Guards: The guards in London remain stoic and don't move during a Sharknado. Fin yells at them that protecting the Queen is their job, which finally gets them to move, then they gun down several sharks.
- The Cameo: Like in the previous ones, there are a ton.
- Nichelle Nichols as the Secretary-General of NATO.
- Jedward appear yet again, this time in the brief scene in the Netherlands towards the end of the movie.

- A lot of athletes have cameo appearances, including Olympic diver Tom Daley, Olympic skater Sasha Cohen, snowboarder Gus Kenworthy.
- Almost two dozen Germans, for example Oliver Kalkofe and Peter Rütten (their second cameo in a Sharknado-film. They can be seen in Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!, too) or Sarah Knappik (who previously had a cameo in Sharknado: The 4th Awakens)
- Charo as the Queen of England.
- Darker and Edgier: Holy crap. This film goes from a simple Indiana Jones parody to full blown chaos with characters getting killed off left and right and the Sudden Downer Ending where Fin loses both his sons (Gil's death is later subverted, however), his daughter, his cousin, April, and Nova.
- Everybody's Dead, Dave: Fin receives a call from his son, Matt, who informs him that the rest of the family are dead. Then Matt is killed a few seconds later.
- Freeze-Frame Bonus: Al Roker's weather map. A close look reveals that the labeled cities are all places with "shark" in their names.
- Future Badass: Little Gil travels through time to assist Fin, now played by Dolph Lundgren.
- Greater-Scope Villain: This film finally reveals that all Sharknados throughout history have been the work of nothing less than a shark god!
- Hope Spot:
- Fin and April activate an artifact in Egypt that automatically disperses the Sharknados all around the world, but a few seconds later, it loses power and the Sharknados start up again.
- After April is blown up, Fin in anguish cradles her head. Her eyes open and it seems her cyborg nature allows her to live on, but she shuts down.
- It's Personal: Fin and April really have a reason to fight when they lose their son.
- Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Nova and Fin discover that ancient Druids installed five magic stones around the globe in order to stop Sharknados from destroying the world. Removing one causes Sharknados to immediately destroy the world.
- Running Gag: The London Eye breaks loose and goes rolling through the streets this time, and Fin Lampshades how it's just like the rolling-ferris-wheel incident from the original Sharknado.
- Senseless Sacrifice: Nova leaps into the Sharkzilla in an attempt to save Gil, only for him to vanish and her to get mortally injured.
- Sequel Hook: After the world is devastated, Fin wretchedly wanders the streets looking for survivors. Then his now adult son appears and says they have a chance to prevent it from happening and bring everyone back. They hop into his truck, which has been converted into a flying car and a time machine, and disappear.
- Shout-Out:
- In the intro, there's a section where two sharks are eating Italian - a chef, not the cuisine - in the manner of Lady and the Tramp.
- There's a pub sign in London that reads "The Slaughtered Lamb".
- Nova commendeers a double-decker bus to drive Fin and his family to safety. Then Brett Michaels winds up riding on the front of said bus while laying down heavy metal guitar riffs.
- In a Freeze-Frame Bonus at the beginning, there is a corpse trapped underneath Stonehenge that is wearing a Silver Shamrock trademark badge.
- The final scene is one to the ending of Back to the Future.
- Really, there's at least a hundred of them, counting "celebrity" cameos. Good luck finding them all.
- Steampunk: Dr. Angel's "sharknado-proof" armored blimp.
- Swirly Energy Thingy: The artifact-spawned sharknadoes have a purple strand of energy at the center of the vortex, which acts as a Cool Gate that sends people and the shark-storm itself through space and time.
- Too Dumb to Live: Tom Daley jumps into the water to avoid the sharks. Needless to say, it goes as well as you thought it was going to be.
- Trust Password: The adult Little Gil convinces Fin he is his son by saying, "Semper Paratus. A Shepard is always prepared."
- Use Your Head: Little Gil head-butts a shark to death defending Nova. Made more effective because he's wearing a helmet with a shark-fin ridge on it.
- Weaponized Landmark: The London Eye fires one of its capsules into the sharknado like a rocket. The Sydney Opera House changes into a battle-mode and fires off lasers and some of its shell sections at the oncoming shark-storm. In the animated credits sequence, an Egyptian pyramid takes off with rockets and zaps some spear-wielding sharks with Frickin' Laser Beams.
- Your Princess Is in Another Castle!: Gil is almost rescued several times, only to be teleported away at the last second.
