This work provides examples of:
- Anguished Declaration of Love: Naruko's unintentional confession is filled with her Heroic Self-Deprecation.
- Broken Tears: Naruko is reduced into a sobbing emotional wreck once her true feelings for Hino come a bit too late.
- Cool Big Sis: Sakura is the one to steadily push Naruko into recognizing her feelings for Hino are not just platonic.
- Everyone Loves Blondes: Naruko has become really popular after the Fourth War.
- First Girl Wins: Hino ends up with Naruko in the end.
- Forceful Kiss: Aiko kisses Hino. Unfortunately, Naruko drops in on this.
- Freudian Slip: Naruko, unintentionally, tells Hino she's in love with him.
- Gender Flip: Naruto is a girl named Naruko, and Hinata is a guy called Hino.
- Generation Xerox: Naruko has fallen in love with Hino almost the same way her mother fell for her father with a Rescue Romance and both respective males being the only ones to genuinely care for them since the very beginning.
- Green-Eyed Epiphany: Naruko realizes she's in love with Hino once she sees that he's dating another girl. Or so she thinks.
- Heroic BSoD: Naruko suffers this after her Green-Eyed Epiphany.
- Heroic Self-Deprecation: Naruko lists off all the things she thinks makes her unfit as a romantic partner for Hino.
- I Am Not Pretty: Naruko tells Hino she's not as pretty as other girls in her Heroic Self-Deprecation speech.
- I Can't Believe a Guy Like You Would Notice Me: Naruko almost says this word for word during her unintentional love confession.
- I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Naruko tries to pull this off.
- Deconstructed: She truly is happy that Hino found himself a girlfriend. However, the whole ordeal combined with realizing the true extent of her feelings far too late, reduced her into a sobbing wreck.
- This is further lampshaded by her inner monologue. As Naruko is congratulating Hino on finding someone more "suitable" for him than she would ever be, she is mentally begging him not to act all lovey-dovey with his new girlfriend in front her, not wanting to relive the moment her whole world fell apart.
- And the summary of the fanfic heavily implies this.
- Deconstructed: She truly is happy that Hino found himself a girlfriend. However, the whole ordeal combined with realizing the true extent of her feelings far too late, reduced her into a sobbing wreck.
- Insecure Love Interest: Ironically, both Naruko and Hino are this to each other.
- Like Parent, Like Spouse: Naruko falls for a man (Hino) who is nice, generous, kind, and a strong ninja just like her father, Minato.
- Living Emotional Crutch: Lampshaded by Sakura. Hino is this for Naruko. Sakura notes she has never seen Naruko so broken and lifeless once she discovers Hino is unavailable.
- Love Hurts: Naruko. Being rendered into an emotional wreck just because your love is unrequited surely counts as this.
- Love Triangle: Naruko, Hino, and Aiko.
- Masculine Girl, Feminine Boy: Naruko and Hino, respectively.
- Nice Guy: Hino. The reason why Naruko feels so insecure and unworthy of being the "right" woman for him.
- One Side of the Story: Naruko is too busy wallowing in her own anguish, she does not realize that Aiko kissed Hino and that the feeling wasn't mutually. Good thing Hino clears that little misunderstanding up in the end. And with The Big Damn Kiss to boot! Happy ending indeed!
- The One That Got Away: Played with and averted. After Naruko witnesses Hino and Aiko kissing, she reminiscences about all the significant moments she's spent with Hino, leading to her Green-Eyed Epiphany.
- Opposites Attract: Naruko and Hino. A brash, loud tomboy and a quiet and polite guy end up together.
- Original Character: Aiko Yuzo. She's Hino's girlfriend. Or so Naruko thinks.
- Out-of-Context Eavesdropping: The main premise of the story started when Naruko watched Hino and Aiko enter a small diner, assuming they are on a date.
- Rescue Romance: One of the things that makes Naruko realize she's in love with Hino is him attempting to save her from Pain.
- Single-Target Sexuality: Hino declares to Naruko that he would only ever have eyes for her.
- Single Woman Seeks Good Man: Naruko loves Hino because he's the kindest and most reliable guy she's ever met, and he's always there for her in her darkest moments giving her the emotional support that she needs.
- Tomboy Angst: Naruko believes she is not girly enough for Hino.
- Unrequited Love Switcheroo: Hino is in love with Naruko, but she doesn't return his affections. That is until he starts dating someone else. Or at least that's what she believes.
- Unresolved Sexual Tension: Naruko and Hino.
- Uptown Boy: Hino. Part of the reason why Naruko thinks a Yamato Nadeshiko would be a more worthy partner for him.
- Warts and All: Hino loves Naruko, despite her faults.
- Yamato Nadeshiko: Naruko believes this type of woman is more suitable for Hino. Something that she clearly isn't, stating that she's too loud, brash, and stubborn for her own good.
