John Patrick McEnroe Jr. (born February 16, 1959) is an American former Tennis player who has 77 singles and 78 doubles titles on the ATP Tour (the top combined total for men in the Open Eranote ), including seven titles in Grand Slam singles events. He's also the only male player ever to have been No. 1 in singles and doubles at the same time, and was year-end No. 1 in both for three straight years (1981–83), a record for men or women.note McEnroe still frequently competes in seniors events, and to the current generation may be best known as a TV commentator who's often creepily accurate in his predictions.
He is well known for his outbursts on the tennis court during the game, one of which got him ejected from the 1990 Australian Open.
He was married to Tatum O'Neal, currently married to Patty Smyth (formerly of Scandal), and has five children, three with O'Neal and two with Smyth. Incidentally, he has a tennis-playing brother Patrick, whom he occasionally teamed with in doubles and is also a TV tennis commentator.
