Other Protagonists
Dan Huffington
Huff
Voiced by: Michael Dalmon
A hillbilly who, thanks to some kind of accident with the Time-Lock, gets transported to the past instead of Sam.- Badass Normal: Just an ordinary redneck who can cause as much havoc to Mental's forces as Sam himself.
- Canon Foreigner: Exclusive to the XXL version.
- Half-Witted Hillbilly: A more competent example than usual, but he ticks all the boxes.
- Sleeves Are for Wimps: Wears a bright, yellow shirt with the sleeves torn off.
Bomb
- Animate Inanimate Object: Exactly What It Says on the Tin. His "Dyna" variant changes him into walking dynamite.
- Cartoon Bomb: He is one and can cause non-animate ones to blow up.
- Required Secondary Powers: Averted. He may have the power to spawn more bombs and detonate them all at once, but he does not have explosion immunity. There is an item that reduces explosion damage, but it has to be obtained separately.
- Stuff Blowing Up: His specialty. His ability allows him to remotely blow up every single bomb and mine in the room at once. Just be careful not to stand next to one when using it, since activating them this way will not trigger a countdown and instead explode them immediately.
Bad Bulb
A sentient lightbulb rescued in the Nightmare Caves. He uses electricity to attack his enemies.
- Animate Inanimate Object: A living lightbulb. Unlike Bomb, he doesn't even have arms or legs!
- Batter Up!: His melee weapon is a metal bat, referred to in-game as a "Melee Bulb". Interestingly, he's the only character to not use a sledgehammer.
- Cast From Hitpoints: His "Sparky" variant drains health to attack, but compensates by healing with every figmentnote collected.
- Chain Lightning: He shoots a beam of electricity that chains to nearby enemies, dealing reduced damage to them.
- Close-Range Combatant: His limited range requires you to get up close and personal with enemies, which can be difficult with the game's Bullet Hell tendencies.
- Hates Being Touched: Sometimes after being hit, Bulb demands that his enemy uses sanitizer the next time they touch him.
- Insufferable Genius: He likes to boast about his intelligence compared to everyone else.Bad Bulb: "Ah, I see you've gone for the intelligent choice. There is hope for you yet!"
- Mechanically Unusual Class: He is the only character that does not use a traditional gun as his main weapon, instead using a beam of electricity to kill enemies. As such, he's also the only character who does not get any gun upgrades, receiving a selection of normal items instead.
- Shock and Awe: His "gun" and special ability revolve around this.
- Sophisticated as Hell: Bulb has a very posh attitude most of the time, but even he can't help but vent some frustration if he's killed.Bad Bulb: "Ah Mental, thou art a heartless bitch."
Ugh-Zan Jr.
- Baritone of Strength: Has a deep, booming voice and is the physically strongest character you can unlock.
- Big Red Devil: He is an alien, but the piercing red skin, horns and goat legs certainly make him look the part.
- Dark Is Not Evil: His unlockable variant has entirely black skin with red horns, but he is still fighting against Mental.
- Grievous Harm with a Body: His special ability allows him to pick up both projectiles and enemies (except bosses) and throw them at others to deal massive damage.
- White Sheep: Every other member of the Ugh-Zan Dynasty encountered so far has been in high-ranking positions in Mental's Horde. Ugh-Zan Jr. instead chose to rebel against him.
Humans
Earth Defense Force
- Redshirt Army: Mental's forces slaughter them by the thousands. By the time BFE nears its end, only Sam is left.
- The Alliance: Every single government and military on Earth, united as one against the alien invasion.
Professor Hermann Stein
Voiced by: Garry Peters
An archaeologist prominent in the study of Sirian artifacts found in Egypt. He was the one who figured out how to activate the Time-Lock, giving humanity a fighting chance against Mental.
- The Ghost: Despite being a character vital to the series as a whole, all that's ever seen of Stein is the hand of his corpse.
- Herr Doktor: Implied. He's a colleague of Professor Kiesel and his name is German in origin, so it's very likely that he's German as well.
- The Illegible: Sam spends most of The Last Hope's Shaanti levels trying to decipher the handwritten notes Stein gave him, which are supposed to help him find Mental's experimental superweapon. He manages to find it eventually, but makes sure to complain about it.
- Minor Major Character: He's a fairly recurring character and very important to the plot, as Sam never would have made it to the past without his discovery on how to use the Time-Lock. Yet we never actually get to meet the guy. Sam never even talks to him on-screen.
- Sound-Only Death: You can hear his screams while looking for him in the Cairo museum, but he's already dead by the time Sam gets to him. You don't even get to see the corpse.
Paolo
- Guest-Star Party Member: Shows up later on in Carcassonne as a member of La RĂ©sistance, provided you complete the Side Quest "We Can Be Heroes".
- The Generic Guy: Doesn't have much personality compared to everyone else.
- The Lancer: To the dead Massimo Murena.
- You Are in Command Now: With Massimo Murena dead, he's now the leader of the Italian resistance.
Dmitry
Voiced by: Zach Valenti
An EDF member hailing from Russia.
- Catchphrase: He always starts his audio logs with "I would like to register complaint regarding" whatever it is the audio log is about.
- Complaining About Rescues They Don't Like: Chides Sam for non-standard use of a snow mobile instead of thanking him for saving him from a Khnum.
- The Eeyore: Always sounds positively miserable.
- Inconsistent Spelling: One of his logs complains about how the EDF keeps misspelling his name with an "i" instead of a "y".
- Leaning on the Fourth Wall: He does this in his second audio log."I would like to register complaint regarding system to register complaints, which is reminiscent of 21st century computer game audio log system. It is primitive way of communicating important information in crisis situation."
- No Sense of Humor: Dmitry does not find everyone else's jokes even remotely funny.
- Only Sane Man: He certainly considers himself as such and joined the EDF to try to straighten things out. However, while he is definitely more sane than most of the A.A.A. Team, he also has a serious case of Skewed Priorities.
- Skewed Priorities: Sam using a snow mobile for decapitation is apparently more important than almost being eaten alive. He's also more upset that there was no proper security check at a Siberian oil refinery than the fact that everyone there is dead.
- Surrounded by Idiots: Everyone around him is always doing something wrong, so he'll make an audio log to complain about it. He specifically joined the EDF to fix some of these problems himself.
Olga
One-Eyed Olga / The One-Eyed Horror / Lady Death
Voiced by: Julia Mikayla Wilson
A legendary Russian sniper. Believed to have died shortly after assassinating the Octanian general Ktapodius the Strangler, Olga shows up alive and well to help Sam in Siberian Mayhem.
- Alternate Self: Shows up alongside Future Sam at the end of Siberian Mayhem, who recruited an Olga from an Alternate Timeline for an important mission. She, Future Sam and Siberian Mayhem!Sam then depart through a time portal to parts unknown.
- The Dreaded: She's infamous enough for the Horde to give her nicknames like "Lady Death" and the "One-Eyed Horror". One Octanian soldier can be heard telling a horror story about her.
- Early-Bird Cameo: She is mentioned twice in Radio Free Earth broadcasts throughout 4, only to show up in the flesh in Siberian Mayhem.
- Eating the Eye Candy: Admits to having stared at Sam's butt during their holdout at her hideout.Olga: "Stone? You OK down there?"
Sam: "Yeah... I'm all right. Thanks for watching my butt."
Olga: "Couldn't help myself..." - Eyepatch of Power: Has one covering her left eye socket. It's even listed as a crime on her wanted poster.
- Eye Scream: They don't call her One-Eyed Olga for nothing. According to one of her loading screen quotes, she keeps her missing eye in her chest pocket.
- Faking the Dead: Killing Ktapodius the Strangler had the side-effect of making her a key target for the Octanian forces, so she faked her death so she can recover from her injuries.
- Friendly Sniper: One of the best snipers in the EDF and nothing but friendly to Sam.
- I Call It "Vera": Her NETRICSA file mentions that she affectionately calls her favourite rifle "Victor".
- Improbable Aiming Skills: She shoots down a plane by hitting one of its engines with a single shot.
- Living Legend: Going by Radio Free Earth and Sam's own comments, she's just as much of a legend as Sam is.
- Ma'am Shock: One of her loading screen quotes has her saying that she does not appreciate being called "ma'am".
- Small Role, Big Impact: She only has one major appearance in Siberian Mayhem, but she shoots down Brand's cargo plane, preventing him from reaching Tunguska and leading to his and Sam's confrontation in Ustinov.
- Sole Survivor: She lost both her eye and her entire squad in a struggle against a horde of Kleers. This led to her officially leaving the EDF to fight on her own, but she still keeps in touch.
The Alien Artifact Acquisition (A.A.A.) Team
- Badass Crew: Some of the EDF's best soldiers, capable of keeping up with Sam during several points in 4.
- Bunny-Ears Lawyer: They may be partially-to-complete lunatics, but they all have skills that make them the EDF's best.
- Due to the Dead: The surviving members of the team take a drink in memory of their fallen comrades during 4's ending credits.
- Et Tu, Brute?: Downplayed. None of them particularly liked General Brand, but they never saw his betrayal coming. They are all outraged when he reveals himself a Turncoat and want to get their revenge on him, which they gladly indulge in at the end.
- Ragtag Bunch of Misfits: General Brand handpicked them from various parts of the EDF and they are as eccentric as can be.
- Serious Business: One-liners. As Jones puts it:"This is Triple-A, boy, you gotta survive with style."
- True Companions: The core members of the team constantly rip on and make bad jokes about each other, but they stick together through thick and thin.
- Unwitting Pawn: The entire mission to find the Holy Grail was one big lie. Their actual goal was to unlock the Artifact of Doom for General Brand so he can claim it for himself and join Mental's side.
Dwayne Juan Maria Rodriguez
Rodriguez the Ram
Voiced by: Antonio Alvarez (4), Bill Wise (3: BFE)
Click here to see Rodriguez in BFE
- And This Is for...: While fighting Lord Achriman, Rodriguez lists a few people he intends to avenge."For Jones! For Kenny! For Carmelita! Eat this!"
- Dumb Muscle: Not all that bright, but can throw down with the best of them.
- Establishing Character Moment: Seen mowing down Mental's armies with Jones while screaming at the top of his lungs:"Yeeeeeahaaaaaw! That's right, you sons of bitches! I fuck Mental! I fuck your whole army! Come at me, you alien pendejos! Ya want Mexican? I got Mexican! Ya want American? I got American! Y'all want a bite of me? Come get your chili con carnage!"
- Functional Addict: Very much likes himself some drugs and would rather being doing some than fight Mental's armies, but puts them aside because mankind's survival is much more important.
- Hard Truckin': Used to be a truck driver before Mental's invasion hit.
- Hot-Blooded: Manages to outdo both Sam and Hellfire in his passion for carnage.
- I Call It "Vera": He named his machete "Carmelita", after a stripper that used to work in his favourite restaurant/strip club. She died in the Siege of Mexico City, using a shotgun to take a few aliens with her. It's likely that he had a thing for her, since he reminisces fondly of her and later calls her name when fighting Lord Achriman.
- Killed Offscreen: How he meets his demise in BFE is unclear. When he calls Sam for the second time, it's actually Jones using his earphone since Rodriguez was already dead. Some unused dialogue from Jones states that he "took one in the chest".
- Large Ham: Even by Serious Sam standards, Rodriguez has a loud and bombastic personality.
- Ludicrous Gibs: His and Jones' bodies are blown to smithereens by a Beheaded Kamikaze and so charred that it's impossible to tell what belonged to whom. At least Rodriguez seems to have already been dead by the time this happened.
- Noodle Incident: On top of his numerous promotions and demotions due to his unpredictability, Rodriguez also received a reprimand for causing the "Saratoga Industrial Lubricant Incident".
- Macho Latino: One of the strongest men in the A.A.A. Team, hailing from Mexico.
- O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Rodriguez has a surprisingly introspective moment after he finds out about Jones' death. He fully admits that he expects himself to die in some stupid way later on, but was hoping his friend would make it out alive to be the cook he always wanted to be.
- Saved by Canon: Since both Rodriguez and Hellfire show up in BFE, it is clear that they'll manage to escape the Harvester Leviathan at the end of 4.
- The Hedonist: Drowing himself in the pleasure of drugs and prostitues is his favourite past time activity, but he sadly doesn't get to do much of that while the world is ending. His NETRICSA file even calls him this.
- Took a Level in Jerkass: By the time of BFE, Rodriguez has become a lot more rude towards Sam compared to his respectful behavior in 4. The fact that humanity is on its last legs at this point and they are on a mission he considers pointless likely doesn't help.
- We Hardly Knew Ye: Only has a brief conversation with Sam at the start of BFE and is unceremoniously Killed Offscreen a few minutes later. Thankfully, his expanded role in 4 considerably fleshes out his character.
Thomas Jones
Voiced by: Byron Marc Newsome
- All-Loving Hero: After his death, Jones recorded a message to explain why he decided to take part in the war despite just wanting to be an ordinary cook. The reason?"I went into this fight knowing I would probably die. And that's OK, if it's the price for saving the planet. But I wanted you to know, to remember, that I didn't give my life for a nation, or a race, or a religion. I joined because I like people. Ordinary human beings of every type and flavor. Not presidents and generals, not even artists and geniuses. Just ordinary old dumbass human beings, doing their thing. That's it. That's enough. Remember that."
- Dead Man Writing: A Radio Free Earth broadcast halfway through the game passes a message Jones had recorded in case he dies in the field to the rest of the world.
- Establishing Character Moment: Seen mowing down Mental's armies with the screaming Rodriguez, following up his Badass Boast with a calm "What he said".
- Mauve Shirt: Lives until the end of the third level and receives a decent amount of characterization before his death.
- Half the Man He Used to Be: Gets his entire torso bitten off in one bite by a Khnum.
- Red Oni, Blue Oni: Whereas Rodriguez is a Hot-Blooded drug addict, Jones always keeps his cool.
- Saved by Canon: Subverted. The Jones we meet in BFE actually turns out to be his brother.
- The Quiet One: Downplayed. Jones isn't as quiet as this trope usually suggests, but he is a lot less talkative than his Large Ham companions.
- You Do NOT Want To Know: When Rodriguez asks Hellfire if he ever told her how his goatee got its nickname, Jones recommends her to never let him tell her that story.
Fiona Starr
Hellfire
Voiced by: Erica Lindbeck (4), Jennymarie Jemison (3: BFE)
Click here to see Hellfire in BFE
- Action Girl: 4 shows that she's just as badass with a gun as her male teammembers.
- Badass Driver: Drives a bus, a helicopter and a plane to get her teammates where they need to be.
- Boyish Short Hair: In 4, which is befitting her Tomboy personality.
- Cool Shades: Never seen without a pair of sunglasses.
- Dropped a Bridge on Her: A Gnaar of all things sneaks up on her near the end of BFE.
- Establishing Character Moment: Seen crushing an Emetic Anthropolyp with a bus while cheering like a college student."Speedbump!"
- Gatling Good: Her preferred weapon. She outright calls herself a "minigun gal" in BFE.
- Girlish Pigtails: In BFE.
- Hidden Depths: Used to be a pacifist before the war started. Now she's slaughtering aliens by the dozens.
- Official Couple: 4 confirms that she and Sam are in a relationship.
- Only Known by Their Nickname: Her real name, Fiona Starr, is only mentioned in her NETRICSA file. Everyone just calls her Hellfire.
- Saved by Canon: Since both Hellfire and Rodriguez show up in BFE, it is clear that they'll manage to escape the Harvester Leviathan at the end of 4.
- Undignified Death: Eaten by a Gnaar while making a Stock Scream.
- You Don't Look Like You: Even moreso than Rodriguez. She sports a drastically different design in 4 compared to BFE.
Penelope Quinn
Voiced by: Adriene Mishler (3: BFE), Cherami Leigh (4)
- Cloudcuckoolander's Minder: She certainly tries her best to keep Sam from blowing everything on his mission up.
- Dropped a Bridge on Her: Killed Offscreen during a surprise attack on the last EDF headquarters.
- Mission Control: Gives Sam instructions on his next objective throughout BFE and to a lesser extent in 4.
- Surrounded by Idiots: Certainly gives off this vibe when having to deal with Sam and the A.A.A. Team's antics.
- Unseen No More: Only hear her voice in BFE, but finally get to meet her in person in 4.
Professor Gottlieb Kiesel
- Absent-Minded Professor: Doesn't always pay attention to what is going on around him.
- Actually Pretty Funny: Subverted. He initially pretends to find one of Sam's jokes amusing, only to state that he finds his humor incomprehensible when Sam asks if he's honest.
- Gratuitous German: Likes to remind the player that he is, in fact, German by peppering his sentences with German words.
- Herr Doktor: Has a very thick, stereotypical German accent.
- Mission Control: Gives Sam a few optional side-missions during 4.
- You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: Finding out that HAARP actually is an Earthquake Machine has him quite bewildered. A Radio Free Earth broadcast in a later mission shows an interview where he's still upset about it.
- What Happened to the Mouse?: His fate after 4 is uncertain, since he is not heard from in Serious Sam 3: BFE.
Daniel Hieronimus Carter
Voiced by: Mark Atherlay
- Blatant Lies: The end of his NETRICSA file goes off to claim that Carter is "as handsome as he is intelligent", followed by stating that he definitely did not hack her to add that paragraph.
- Conspiracy Theorist: Talks about practically nothing else.
- Cloudcuckoolander: His ideas about how the world works make the other A.A.A. members look sane by comparison.
- Establishing Character Moment: Gets down from the bus Hellfire was driving spewing a bit of useless trivia about it."Did you know this exact same model of bus was used in the assassination attempt on the Italian prime minister's personal UFOlogist in 2052? Now, most people say it was the Illuminati, but I'm pretty sure it was the CIA. Your tax money at work!"
- The Friend Nobody Likes: Downplayed. The rest of the team is clearly exasperated by his constant talk about conspiracies, but they still respect his contributions and get along just fine otherwise.
- Hidden Depths: He's skilled with the pipe organ, which he briefly demonstrates when the team enters the cathedral in Carcassonne.
- Knew It All Along: Is ecstatic when General Brand confirms he was right about HAARP being an Earthquake Machine.
- Motor Mouth: Tends to do this when he really gets into one of his theories.
- Noodle Incident: He apparently leaked some sensitive information on the government in 2103, which got him barred from government service. Mental's invasion shifted some priorities, so Carter got a pardon and was allowed into the EDF.
- Oh, Crap!: His first reaction to Mental's invasion was "I knew it!", quickly followed by this.
- The Paranoiac: The only things he seems to trust are himself and his teammates. He calls VHS tapes "the only reliable medium".
- Shout-Out: His last name is Carter and he was born on Mars, a clear reference to John Carter of Mars.
- What, Exactly, Is His Job?: Sam, Rodriguez and Jones are the muscle. Hellfire is the transportation. Professor Kiesel is the scientific advisor. General Brand is the leader, with Quinn as his assistant. What Carter's purpose in the team is is anyone's guess, since he mostly just hangs around Father Mikhail.
- What Happened to the Mouse?: His fate after 4 is uncertain, since he is not heard from in Serious Sam 3: BFE.
Kenneth Orkanti
Kenny
Voiced by: Joe Lynch
- Apologetic Attacker: Is forced to shoot some Marsh-Hoppers while he's making his way towards Carcassonne. He's heard repeatedly saying "I'm so sorry!" over the radio.
- Character Development: Starts out being incredibly shy and nervous. With some encouragement from Sam, Kenny becomes more confident as the game goes on.
- Early-Bird Cameo: He's the soldier enjoying nature in one of the early trailers for 4.
- Establishing Character Moment: Runs away screaming from a Gnaar. Sam throws him a shotgun and he manages to kill it, but falls over from the knockback. He lost his shoe in the process.
- Gameplay Ally Immortality: He loses his gun at the beginning of the game and needs to be escorted by Sam during the first two chapters, but he's invincible like the other NPCs.
- Kill the Cutie: Lord Achriman kills him by jamming his fingernails into Kenny's throat, purely to see Sam suffer.
- Nerd Action Hero: He's a dorky student with a big love for frogs of any kind, but he starts pulling his weight alongside the rest of the team.
- New Meat: The newest member of the A.A.A. team.
- Nice Guy: By far the nicest character in the entire series.
- Once Done, Never Forgotten: The rest of the team made sure to never let him forget that his first One-Liner was about losing his shoe, completely ignoring that he wasn't trying to make one in the first place.
- Only Sane Man: In spite of being the New Meat, he's often the voice of reason in the A.A.A. team.
- Phrase Catcher: After the aforementioned Shoe incident, the team constantly throws some variant of "I lost my shoe" at him, any chance they get.
Mikhail Obruchev
Father Mikhail
Voiced by: Paul Heizberg
- Badass Boast:"Let me give you your last rites!"
- Badass Preacher: Able to take care of his own on a fight, and a religious authority.
- Defiant to the End: After being impaled on the Artifact of Doom, his last words are spent telling Brand to go fuck himself.
- Establishing Character Moment: His first appearance has him blowing up two Processed Humans and an Emetic Anthropolyp. And not being fazed in the slightest by the latter exploding onto his face.
- Godzilla Threshold: At the beginning of the second level of 4, he reveals why he's helping the A.A.A. team reach the Vatican."Technically, like Catholicism, the Holy Grail is... heretical. But this is no time for dogma. Each must do all he can to save the planet."
- Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Brand kills him by ramming the sharp end of the False Grail through his chest.
- Nice Guy: Just a pleasant fellow all around. He's pretty much the only one who puts up with Carter's constant talk about conspiracies, simply because he has the patience of a saint.
- Shotguns Are Just Better: His preferred weapon.
- Shut Up, Hannibal!: Quickly gets fed up when Lord Achriman keeps starting a Breaking Speech in his Boss Fight."I beg you, for the love of God, shut up and fight!"
Ledov's Squad
Igor Ledov
Voiced by: Gianni Matragrano
The leader of a Russian partisan squad and Sam's biggest fan, who decided to take up arms against Mental's Horde after they blew up his music studio.
- Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: Among the many crimes he's committed against Mental's Empire, his wanted poster mentions him having written an offensive song about Mental's mother, as well as heretically suggesting Mental has a mother in the first place.
- Death Wail: His immediate reaction upon seeing Ivan die, followed by a Cluster F-Bomb.
- Do Not Go Gentle: Even after his entire squad is killed and he's being overwhelmed with enemies, Ledov refuses to give up and fights his Last Stand until he stops breathing.
- Eating the Eye Candy: According to one of Natasha's loading screen quotes, she's caught him staring at some of Lord Achriman's Witch-Brides on multiple occasions.
- Guns Akimbo: Carries around two AK-74MXs that he fires in each hand.
- Hidden Depths: He's very skilled with the guitar and used to have his own music studio.
- Hot-Blooded: He gives anyone in the A.A.A. team a run for their money.
- I'm Your Biggest Fan: He says it in regards to his whole squad, but he's clearly the one most excited to meet Sam.
- No Celebrities Were Harmed: Ledov is based on Russian musician Yegor Letov.
- Round Hippie Shades: Which double as Cool Shades.
- Taking You with Me: After being mortally wounded on the Ustinov dam, Ledov blows himself and a horde of enemies up with a bag full of C4.
- The Leader: This is Ledov's Squad, after all.
Ivan Pakhomov
Voiced by: Alexei (Samson) Stone
A grumpy partisan in Ledov's Squad. He's never heard of Serious Sam before and thinks the name is stupid.
- Dumb Muscle: Not exactly the brightest of the bunch, but he's loyal as can be and an effective soldier.
- Comically Cross-Eyed: Briefly shows this after drinking some alcohol with Sam. He's fine again after they reach Ustinov, though.
- Defiant to the End: As a One-Winged Angel Brand is holding him captive, Ivan insults him to his face and tells Sam not to submit to his demands. Brand promptly kills him.
- Half the Man He Used to Be: Brand rips him in half after Ivan verbally spits in his face.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: A grumpy and distrustful fellow, but he sticks close to his fellow squad members and is ready to give his life to fight for freedom.
- Mundane Utility: Once tried to use a repurposed Draconian Raygun to make toast. Unsurprisingly, it didn't go so well.
- Recruitment by Rescue: Immediately joined the squad after they rescued him from his Too Dumb to Live moment below.
- Shotguns Are Just Better: Wields an Autoshotgun in battle, a shotgun with an automatic trigger and a large magazine.
- Too Dumb to Live: He thought getting processed sounded exciting and willingly surrendered himself to the Harvester Drones, only figuring out his mistake once the Octanians tried to probe him. Had Ledov's crew not rescued him, he would've become one of the thousands of Processed you kill throughout the game.
- Took a Level in Kindness: He's initially very dismissive of Sam, not getting why Ledov is so excited about meeting him. After seeing Sam backing up his reputation with actions, Ivan warms up to him and shares a drink on their train ride.
- Undying Loyalty: Towards the EDF's cause and his squad members.
Natasha Maksimova
Voiced by: Ekaterina Dmitrova
Another member of Ledov's Squad, a big fan of his who became a trusted companion.
- Ascended Fanboy: Natasha was part of Ledov's fan club before the war, joining his partisan squad as soon as he announced its formation and becoming a close friend of his.
- Expecting Someone Taller: When asked about her opinion on him, Natasha expected Serious Sam to be a bit bigger. Sam points out that he's standing right next to her.
- Killed Offscreen: She and Vlad are already dead by the time Sam arrives at the Ustinov dam.
- Satellite Character: She's a fan of Ledov who became a trusted teammate, and that's all there is to know about her.
- Shotguns Are Just Better: Natasha uses a 12 gauge pump-action shotgun.
Vlad Sorokin
Voiced by: JM Specht
The last member of Ledov's Squad, a fairly reserved individual who suddenly showed up and joined the group one day.
- Ambiguously Trained: Vlad's NETRICSA file mentions that his discipline, skill in combat and general lack of a background suggests that he either used to be part of the military... or a professional criminal.
- Killed Offscreen: He and Natasha are already dead by the time Sam arrives at the Ustinov dam.
- The Quiet One: He doesn't talk a whole lot.
- Satellite Character: Apart from what's written in his file, Vlad is pretty much just here to be another teammate.
- Shotguns Are Just Better: Vlad wields a double-barreled coach gun.
- Mysterious Past: Absolutely nothing is known about Vlad's origin. He just kinda showed up one day with a bag of weapons and told Ledov that he was joining them. Ledov went with it and Vlad has been a trusted part of the group ever since.
Aliens
- Deadpan Snarker: Even after Sam proves his worthiness, Rajiv still treats him like an afterthought.
- Human Aliens: While Jebediah and Rajiv at least look like Rubber-Forehead Aliens, Rolanda just looks like an ordinary black woman who happens to be a bit on the short side.
- Mission Control: NETRICSA takes this role throughout the actual levels, but the Sirian Great Council instructs Sam on his next objective whenever he finishes business on a planet.
- Only Sane Woman: Rolanda is the only one who tries to keep the others focused on what's going on.
- The Knights Who Say "Squee!": Jebediah is a member of the council and Sam's biggest fan.
- You Don't Look Like You: On a species level. They have virtually no resemblance to the series' Beheaded enemies, who are also supposed to be Sirians. (The same issue would crop up even worse with The Oracle's mummy in BFE, so it seems to be a perennial issue.)
The Trader
Voiced by: Brently Heilborn
An Intrepid Merchant that sells weapons and upgrades to the heroes. He is not only of the same species as General Maxilla, but they went to grade school together.
- Arms Dealer: Sells you weapons and upgrades for your guns.
- Artificial Limbs: Has a mechanical peg leg.
- Canon Foreigner: Exclusive to the XXL version.
- Everybody Calls Him "Barkeep": Only known by his profession.
- Humanoid Aliens: He and Maxilla look like humanoid crustaceans.
- Intrepid Merchant: An exaggerated case, as he somehow manages to always be ahead of Sam or Dan throughout different time periods.
- Reformed Bully: Used to take General Maxilla's lunch money when they were in grade school, but is now a respectful merchant.
- Unwitting Instigator of Doom: He wonders if his bullying of Maxilla may have caused his Start of Darkness.
- Weird Currency: He provides his services in exchange for Cerebral Controllers, which are dropped by dead enemies and found in chests and secret locations.
Charch-gach-zrallma Gchhuck-iargh
Charlie
A member of the Arachnoid La RĂ©sistance, sent to help humanity survive the war with Mental.
- Gatling Good: Like all Adult Arachnoids, Charlie wields two chainguns in combat.
- Guest-Star Party Member: She joins the crew in the last third of the "Vive La France" level, escorting Sam to the Carcassonne castle. An Octanian Raider then blows up the bridge and separates them, leaving Sam to find the rest of his team on his own.
- The Mole: A spy supplying the French resistance with inside information on Mental's Horde.
- Overly Long Name: Just try to say her name out loud. Sam just calls her Charlie, which coincidentally happens to be the nickname her brood mother gave her.
- The Prankster: Is apparently well-known for her love of practical jokes. She's completely on-board with the prank Sam wants to pull on Carter, but unfortunately they never get the chance to put it into action.
- Token Good Teammate: The only friendly Arachnoid encountered so far.
- Vocal Dissonance: Her incredibly deep voice makes it difficult to tell that she's female.
- What Happened to the Mouse?: Is not seen or heard from again after 4.
