Numerous horror-themed versions of the Super Mario Bros. cast have banded together to kill Boyfriend in Mario FNF Port.
Opponents
Story Mode
In addition to being the main opponent of the story mode, he also appears in the freeplay songs "Hellish Trinity", "Triple Appear", "Double Appear" and "Plumber Panic", as well as in the secret songs "Intruder" and "Sudden Run".
For tropes regarding MX in his home game, see here.
- And a Diet Coke: In Plumber Panic, he has a cup of soda on him. His weight must’ve been greatly exaggerated for him to have a drink like that!
- Evil Is Bigger: He stands at 12 feet tall when he sheds his disguise.
- Eye-Obscuring Hat: While disguised, his hat covers his eyes. In his up and right poses, his hat is lifted, showing Hidden Eyes, while the right pose adds a small red pupil.
- Goomba Stomp: Losing to MX results in him jumping on Boyfriend and killing him on landing.
- Promoted to Playable: This version of MX serves as the player character in Plumber Panic against Mario's Madness MX and Mario's Monday Night Massacre MX.
- Red and Black and Evil All Over: Dressed in red and black and wants to kill.
- The Fourth Wall Will Not Protect You: He appears in the main menu, staring directly at you, at least until you select a menu option. In "Intruder", he appears on a TV, and his hands are poking through the screen.
- One-Winged Angel: In his first song, "Innocent", he's disguised as Mario, though by "Terrifying", he drops the act.
Freeplay
- Beware the Silly Ones / Lethal Joke Character: He may look goofy, but he doesn't hold back when it comes to rap battling, even with his song not having any gimmicks.
- Call-Back: Referencing how he was drawn by one of the official Friday Night Funkin' team members, his song includes leitmotifs of songs from the base FNF game.
- Token Good Teammate: Since he's Mario himself and not a malevolent entity assuming his appearance, he means no harm.
- Feed It a Bomb: On the receiving end of this at one point.
- Flying Face: Literally a giant floating head.
- Ghostly Gape: His mouth is wide open, and aside from his teeth, all that's visible is a giant black void inside.
- "Yes Mario…It's me… YOUR DEAR BROTHER!!!"
No, not that one. This Mr. L is a version of Luigi who was accidentally killed by his brother Mario, and now's he returned as a vengeful spirit seeking to return the favor. He appears as the opponent of "Your Dear Brother", as well as one of the opponents of "Triple Appear". Instead of Boyfriend, Mr. L fights Girlfriend.
- The Bad Guy Wins: He successfully killed Mario, as his brother's legs can be seen lying on the floor.
- Black Bead Eyes: His eyes are small, black dots, contrary to his source material where his eyes were really empty sockets.
- Cain and Abel: The Cain to Mario's Abel, even though he was killed first by accident.
- Evil Is Bigger: He's much taller in his true form.
- Flunky Boss: Downplayed in that Mario's corpse singing for him is only for a few verses.
- Lean and Mean: He is extremely elongated compared to his form in his old life, and he killed Mario as revenge for Mario (accidentally) killing him.
- Me's a Crowd: There’s a whole lot of him in "Triple Appear", something he brings from his origin.
- Monster Mouth: His mouth is extremely wide.
- Necromancer: He temporarily reanimates his brother's legs to sing for him, a trait he has exclusive to this mod.
- Roaring Rampage of Revenge: His motive for seemingly destroying the Mushroom Kingdom is being killed by Mario.
- Sibling Murder: On the receiving end of this from Mario by accident, leading him to do this to Mario intentionally.
- Would Hit a Girl: He's one of the few EXEs to go after Girlfriend directly, and in fact only goes after her, to the point where he and Boyfriend are never seen on screen at the same time.
- "I… I… I can't continue with this…"
A variant of Mario who became depressed after accidentally murdering Luigi, and was later killed by his late brother. While his corpse lies on the floor for most of "Your Dear Brother", it gets up to sing for a few verses.
- Accidental Murder: He never meant to push his brother into the lava, but Mr. L wouldn't hear it no matter how much he apologized.
- Dies Differently in Adaptation: Unlike his home game where he was dropped into lava, this version of Mario seems to have lost his upper body instead.
- This is most likely what was left of Mario after Mr. L ate him at the beginning of Too Late.exe, before being revived for the true suffering his brother's vengeful spirit would inflict on him.
- Half the Man He Used to Be: All that remains of him are his legs.
- My God, What Have I Done?: He was grieving over killing Luigi.
- Sibling Murder: He accidentally did this to Luigi, leading his brother to come back as Mr. L to do the same to him, only intentionally this time.
- Cain and Abel: The Cain to Mario's Abel. In simple terms, he despises his own brother for always taking the spotlight and is more than willing to team up with Bowser if it means that Mario will die.
- Green-Eyed Monster: Constantly being in Mario’s shadow was the reason behind his betrayal. The monster part became much more literal after he perished in lava.
- Karmic Death: He tried to drop Mario into lava, only to have the tables turned on him.
- Kill It with Fire: Or more accurately, "Kick Him into Fire." Mario's victory over Luigi and subsequent action resulted in him being burned alive.
- Lighter and Softer: Considering how his song frequently samples songs from Undertale, specifically Bonetrousle and Megalovania, along with his poses making him look noticeably more goofy compared to the other opponents, this seems to be the case. Fitting, considering his origin was meant as a joke.
- Sibling Murder: He attempted to do this trope to Mario... but the result was the other way around.
- The Mole: He was one for Bowser, due to his resentment for Mario being greater than usual.
- Yellow Eyes of Sneakiness: His single eye glows yellow, and given how he was The Mole for Bowser, it suits him.
A version of Luigi who fell into the underworld. He's been stuck there for a long time, having lost his sanity and become a cannibal that feasts on every life of Mario unfortunate enough to fall down there. And now, our favorite blue-haired rapper is at his mercy. He's the opponent of "Reprisal".
- Ax-Crazy: Given that he's now a cannibal feasting on the lives of his own brother, this goes without saying.
- Beard of Evil: Sports a big grey bushy beard, and is a far cry from the heroic Luigi we know and love.
- Evil Old Folks: Has spent enough time in the underworld that his hair's gone grey and he's grown a beard, and he's a cannibal.
- I'm a Humanitarian: Has eaten several lives of Mario in the past.
- Made of Iron: He survives in the titular Underworld and even manages to survive a head-on collision with a Banzai Bill.
- Playing with Fire: Fire burns in his hands in his poses.
- Sanity Slippage: Being stuck in the underworld did this to him, leading to him becoming a cannibal.
- Spared by the Adaptation: In his video of origin, Underworld Luigi got struck by a Banzai Bill before he could kill Mario. Here, he meets no such fate.
- Time-Passage Beard: All grey and bushy.
Weegee, having grown to a giant size and rampaging through a town. He's the opponent of "Obey". Instead of Boyfriend, Giga Weegee faces Mario and Luigi.
- An Arm and a Leg: As the player progresses through the remake of "Obey", Giga Weegee gradually loses all his limbs and torso.
- Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: A given since his name is "Giga Weegee".
- Eye Beams: Failure to press the glowing notes in "Obey" leads to him killing Mario with these.
- Flying Face: His fate during the final stretch of the remake of "Obey".
- Outside-Context Problem: He never interacts with Boyfriend or Girlfriend, instead facing Mario.
- Red Eyes, Take Warning: His eyes glow big and red, and he's currently rampaging through a town.
- Victim #1. Eyeballs were unable to be found. The victim was found lying on her carpet. Causes of death unknown, handmarks with unidentifiable fingerprints were found all over the corpse.
A disturbing image of a girl edited to look like a dead face. She is the opponent in "Find" in V1, and is also the opponent in "Find Me" in the cancelled V2 build.
- Eye Scream: Her eyes were stated to be missing.
- Facial Horror: Whatever happened to her when she died, the aftermath isn't pretty.
- Ghostly Gape: Nothing can be seen inside that mouth. What doesn't help is that she's already heavily obscured by shadow.
- Jump Scare: Does this quite a few times throughout "Find". Every jumpscare turns Boyfriend into a One-Hit-Point Wonder. Subverted in "Find Me" where this mechanic is seemingly not present.
- No Name Given: Her name is never stated.
- The Smurfette Principle: The only female opponent in the mod as of it's current version.
- Token Good Teammate: Despite her unsettling appearance, she's a victim of the killer instead of being the killer herself, so she doesn't mean harm.
- Vocal Dissonance: Her vocals are oddly masculine. Could possibly be due to damage of her vocal cords when she was killed.
- You Are Number 6: Is only ever identified as "Victim #1".
- Those Two Guys: He’s only seen with MX in the mod.
- "X" Makes Anything Cool: His name is Lord X, and is the most well known version of Sonic.exe other than the original. He also has an X-shaped scar on his chest and X-shaped pupils.
- Villainous Friendship: With MX.
Player Characters
Current
- Ambiguous Situation: It’s never explained how he falls into the Underworld to face it’s horrors.
- O.O.C. Is Serious Business: While most of the time Boyfriend has his usual Fearless Fool attitude, against Wario Apparition he's running for his life in sheer panic, and for a brief part of "Triple Appear" in which Boyfriend and Girlfriend sing with each other, his back is turned to the camera but there's implications that like Girlfriend, he's more terrified of the situation than he was previously letting on, as normally Girlfriend would've been around to protect him from harm, but in this case they've been separated and he's up against MX and Lord X on his own, in actual risk of dying.
- O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Girlfriend isn't her usual Brainless Beauty self happily bopping to the beat of the song this time around. In the presence of Mr. L, her expression can only be described as either anger or bemusement, and for a brief part of "Triple Appear" in which Boyfriend and Girlfriend sing with each other, she's on her knees in tears, implying she is more terrified of the situation than she was previously letting on. Per Word of God, Girlfriend usually has faith in Boyfriend to handle things, but in this case they've been separated and she's up against Mr. L alone, having to fend for herself if she wants to leave in one piece.
- Promoted to Playable: In "Your Dear Brother", she goes up against Mr. L, while Boyfriend is nowhere to be seen.
Cancelled Build
- "It's-a me, Mario! Okie dokie!"
- Adaptational Wimp: Luigi almost doesn’t do anything during "Obey", and he gets turned into one of Giga Weegee's minions for a few turns.
- And Now for Someone Completely Different: Their fight against Giga Weegee is seperated from the events Boyfriend and Girlfriend go through in this mod.
- Demoted to Extra: Aside from being the player characters of "Obey", a parody of Mario being fought in "OeGang" and the former's corpse being briefly fought in "Your Dear Brother", the brothers themselves hardly has any screentime, being either the victims of the supernatural horrors faced here (Like with IHY Luigi and Underworld Luigi), or the horror is assuming their identity to trick others (Like with MX and Mr. L).
- Token Good Teammate: A given since he's just a normal human in a cast of creepypasta characters.
- Adaptational Modesty: Unlike the red dress and shoes she wears in the base game and in most of her appearances in the mod, here she's in a more conservative, though form fitting, sweater, jeans and a pair of socks.
- O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Unlike her usual Brainless Beauty self, Girlfriend here fully grasps the danger of her current situation here, considering her terrified expressions in both her idle animation and her poses.
- Singing Voice Dissonance: Compared to her original appearance, Horror Tales Girlfriend sounds higher-pitched here than the mod of origin.
Scrapped
Cancelled Build
- Adaptational Badass: The Luigikid.EXE in Luigikid Gaming's videos has no information whatsoever on it other than being creepy. Here, he gets an entire song to himself against his own creator.
- Hero Killer: His primary target in the original game is Luigi, and he's also killed several Toads.
- Evil Counterpart: To Mario. Mario tries to save the princess, but The Plumber tries to kill her.
- Imposter Forgot One Detail: In a very major way. Contrary to Mario, The Plumber's clothing is white and red, his hat is square, and the emblem on his hat is an "X" instead of an "M".
- No Name Given: Is simply referred to as "The Plumber".
- The Fourth Wall Will Not Protect You: The video where Dry Luigi originates from ends with him sensing your presence and rushing towards the screen, directly at you. There's even a countdown stating when he'll get you, and it culminates in a Jump Scare.
- Nightmare Face: His face after getting dried off has glowing red pupils on black sclera and an oval shaped mouth full of sharp teeth.
- Berserk Button: He hates any and all versions of Luigi, similar to Waluigi's hatred of Luigi.
- Eyes Do Not Belong There: His true form has eyes on the front of his shirt, just above his overalls.
- Jerkass to One: He only hates Luigi and anyone who looks like him, and is nice to everyone else.
- Take Off Your Clothes: An Accidental Innuendo example. At the final stretch of "Match Point" Boyfriend deliberately swaps his hat for a Luigi hat just to piss WalX off. It’s only when the latter does not have the hat that belongs to the one whom WalX hates the most does he not go off the deep end with Boyfriend.
- Cats Are Mean: He's a giant, murderous cat.
- Dark Is Evil: Primarily black, and just as murderous as MX.
- Development Gag: Invoked. Despite being removed from the mod, he still appears in the background of "Plumber Panic".
- Stylistic Suck: Befitting the artstyle of the comic he originates from, he's drawn in a noticeably cruder style than the rest of the mod's cast.
- Sad Battle Music: The entirety of "Melancholy" is this, being very sullen and overall depressing.
- Sensory Abuse: Wega never sings. Instead, his screaming face along with the infamous beta Stalker scream pops up constantly in "WegaBlast", to the point where his Jump Scares can really catch the player off guard.
- Stylistic Suck: His sprites are just PNGs of Wega, and poor quality ones at that, rather than actual illustrations.
Unused
- Eyes Do Not Belong There: His most distinguishing feature is the giant eyeball inside his mouth.
- Green and Mean: His shirt and cap are green in his true form, and he's the opposite of the hero the actual Mario is.
