Bad Mr. Frosty
- Anti-Hero: He's not so "bad" as the name says, but neither is he a hero in the traditional sense.
- Arch-Nemesis: Sumo Santa in 63⅓.
- Be the Ball: One of his moves is to convert himself into a giant snow ball and launch himself at his opponent.
- Blood Knight: Is especially fond of tearing apart his clay opponents.
- Calling Your Attacks:SNOW BALL!ICE BASH!
- Catchphrase: "Call me Daddy".
- Corrupted Character Copy: He appears to be a dark parody of Frosty the Snowman, which is most notable in his 63⅓ battle intro, where he appears as a classic snowman and then pops up into normal Frosty form.Frosty: Don't need this disguise anymore.
- Damn You, Muscle Memory!: With the exception of his "Snowball" move, not a single appearance of Frosty plays the same as the previous one, having a completely different moveset for every game.
- Evil Twin: Ice in C2.
- Good Is Not Nice: The "Bad" in his name isn't an Artifact Title after his Heel–Face Turn, he is a pretty pitiless hero.
- Gorn: One of his Claytalities in 63⅓ and Sculptor's Cut is to squeeze the opponent so hard that they become the "juice" of his snowcone.
- Heel–Face Turn: In the first game, Frosty appears to be evil, but is later an Anti-Hero in C2, and is finally The Hero in 63⅓. Even with the turn, Frosty hasn't stopped being "Bad".
- An Ice Person: Literally as a giant snowman.
- Iconic Item: His blue top hat. C2, however, is the only game where he doesn't wear it (Frosty used a baseball cap instead).
- I Have Many Names: Also just referred to as "Frosty" in C2: Judgment Clay.
- I Will Find You: Frosty is especially interested in seeking and defeating Sumo Santa for the control of North Pole in 63⅓.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Especially in 63⅓ and Sculptor's Cut.
- Mascot with Attitude: Of the ClayFighter series, especially in the second game.
- Red Baron: In various games, he's also known as "The Fighting Snowman".
- The Rival: Ice in C2 and Sumo Santa in 63⅓.
- Series Mascot: Frosty is the emblem character of the series, appearing in all of the box art covers.
- Mascot Villain: In C1 given this is before his Heel–Face Turn.
- Shapeshifter Weapon: Frosty can shape his own body to attack the opponent, but especially with his Snowball attack. This is especially notorious in 63⅓ where he can make ice spikes from his body, transform his hand into a scythe, make ice skates in his feet to slide into the enemy, and even make a "little buddy" out of his head to punch the opponent.
- Signature Move: The "Snowball", his only consistent move in the series.
- Slippy-Slidey Ice World: Every stage Frosty has in the series is this.
- Snowlems: Bad Mr. Frosty started out as a Version III Snowlem but progressively became more of an anti-heroic Version I Snowlem as time went on.
- Subbing for Santa: In his C1 ending, Frosty makes Santa quit his job and takes his place as the one that kids look forward to for christmas.Kids now look forward to Christmas from Bad Mr. Frosty.
- Continuity Nod: The fight for the control of North Pole between Frosty and Sumo Santa appear as backstories between the two for the rest of the games.
- Voice Grunting: Was mostly quiet in the first game, so he mostly made these.
- You Talk Too Much!: In almost all the games he gets tired of how mouthy everyone else is.
Taffy
- Anthropomorphic Food: As his name implies.
- The Bus Came Back: Taffy made a brief cameo in C2: Judgment Clay, but he came back in 63⅓ and Sculptor's Cut.
- The Cameo: He was reduced to this in C2: Judgment Clay's Mount Mushmore stage, along with the other characters who didn't appear in this game (Blue Suede Goo, Helga, and Bonker (but not Ickybod Clay for some reason)).
- Edible Ammunition: Being the candyman he is, Taffy attacks you with gumballs in 63⅓.
- Heel–Face Turn: According to his bio in the manual for 63⅓, like Bad Mr. Frosty before him, he went from a once mean spirited pull of salt water taffy into a model sugar-sweet citizen.
- In-Series Nickname/Red Baron: "The Candyman."
- Multi-Armed and Dangerous: Taffy has a move when he moves so fast that it looks like he gets a multitude of arms to the enemy multiple times. In 63⅓ also has a super version of this.
- The Rival: Bonker, in both C1 and 63⅓. For some very odd reason, Zappa Yow Yow Boyz have him as their Rival Final Boss in Sculpture's Cut and vice versa.
- Shapeshifter Weapon: In 63⅓ Taffy can transform his hands into a gun to shoot the enemy, which is most notably used as a super move and a claytality.
- Shout-Out: Two of the C1 posters where he appears in have the following references:
- In his own poster◊, he appeared to be squeezing Fuuma and Janne.
- In another, his silhoutte against Blue Suede Goo's◊ parodies the dragon silhouette of another game series.
Tiny
- Bald Head of Toughness: Apart of bald, Tiny is one of the toughest characters of the franchise.
- Battle Couple: With Helga in her ending.
- Dumb Muscle: Not precisely the smartest of the group, but at least he has muscles.
- Evil Twin/The Rival: Butch in C2.
- Expy: Of various 90s Fighting Game wrestlers as Zangief and Muscle Power. He can also can Do a Barrel Roll like Blanka can.
- Fan Animation: Tiny has his own short film made in the style of Claymation which takes place after his C2 ending (where he retires from fighting and gets a job at a fast food restaurant).
- Fluffy the Terrible: A big muscled guy with a dumb face.
- Lazy Artist: Due to the constrained time, instead of finishing Lucy the Gorilla for C2, animators just reused Tiny's sprites from C1 with almost no changes from the first game.
- Pro Wrestling Is Real: And he'll punch you if you say otherwise!
- Put on a Bus: He hasn't appeared since C2.
Blob (or The Blob)
- Action Bomb:
- In 63⅓, He can shoot copies of himself as a bomb whilst in cannon form as projectiles, but he also has a claytality where he eats the enemy and then he becomes a bomb and explodes.
- Thanks to hacking the first Clayfighter game, it was discovered that there existed an unused move in C1 where Blob can turn into a bomb and explode which damages both himself and the enemy. This was unlocked in Ultra Clayfighter as one of his new moves.
- Be the Ball:
- In this case, "Be The Buzzsaw," which is one of the most known forms he can shapeshift into in the series.
- Also "Be The Trophy" as his winpose in C1, "Be The Thumbs Up" in C2, and "Be The Planet Stand" in 63⅓.
- Beware the Silly Ones: Blob may have been dumbed down in 63⅓, but that doesn't mean he's not lethal.
- Blob Monster: This is obvious.
- Cheshire Cat Grin: He sports a rather goofy looking one in C2.
- Emerald Power: A green blob of power (and eventually justice) in the series.
- Evil Twin/The Rival: Slyck in C2.
- Expy: Despite being more or less inspired by The Blob (1958), he seems to share several traits with Gumby as well, for they are both made out of green clay and are capable of shape-shifting into essentially anything.
- Fan Animation: Blob appears in Tiny's short film as The Cameo and in this animation; Both of them are made in Claymation.
- Fake Muscles: Blob hulks out in a Growing Muscles Sequence in one of his winposes in 63⅓.
- Fantastic Fighting Style: Blob mastered "goojitsu", a martial arts involving clay and shapeshifting, which is later renamed as "morphmation" in Sculptor's Cut ending.
- Green and Mean: In his C1/C2 appearances. Averted in 63⅓ where he became friendlier.
- Human Alien Discovery: In his story, Blob thought he was a man mutated by the meteorite, but later in his ending, he discovered he was an alien all the time, coming to Earth with the meteorite itself.
- Multi-Armed and Dangerous: One of Blob's most common attacks in the series involves multiple arms that attack the opponent at the same time (in 63⅓ they are shown to be long arms carrying batons).
- Objectshifting: Capable of shapeshifting into inanimate objects to attack the enemy - like anvils, rockets, cars, boxing gloves, bottles, etc.
- Shapeshifter Weapon: Blob can shapeshift into anything he wants.
- Swallowed Whole: One of his throws in the first game and 63⅓ is putting the opponent in his mouth and holding them in place. In the first game, they struggle to get out; in the third game, he turns into a cannon and shoots them out.
- Just Eat Him: 2 of his Claytalities in this game are unique takes on this: One of them involves the Blob converting into a meat grinder and mincing the opponent while the other one has the Blob transforming into a bomb and exploding along with the enemy inside him.
- Took a Level in Dumbass: Blob becomes this in 63⅓. Some fans believe the crash on Klaymodo left Blob with brain damage.
- World Sundering: In his C2 ending, Blob decided to cover the world of clay to reshape it into a "Earth Sitting". This is not Canon, but the paradox is in 63⅓ where Blob is helping the Clayfighter heroes in stopping Dr. Kiln... who wants to cover the world of clay.
- You Don't Look Like You: From serious Blob in C1/C2 to dopey Blob in 63⅓ and Sculptor's Cut.
Blue Suede Goo
Blue Suede Goo is an Elvis impersonator. He only appears in Clayfighter and Tournament Edition as a playable character. He was the most talkative character in the first game, with the second most talkative being Bad Mr. Frosty. Originally, he was going to be called Elvis the Impersonator.- The Cameo: He is reduced to this in C2: Judgment Clay's Mount Mushmore stage, along with the other characters didn't appear in this game (Bonker, Helga and Taffy (but not Ickybod Clay for some odd reason)).
- Catchphrase: "Hey! Watch the hair, man!"
- Elvis Impersonator: Even his prototype name was Elvis the Impersonator.
- Musical Assassin: BSG uses musical notes as projectiles.
- No Celebrities Were Harmed: Based on Elvis Presley, obviously.
- Put on a Bus: He never appeared again since Tournament Edition outside of a cameo in C2.
- Prehensile Hair: His haircomb-shaped hair which can be used as a sword to cut the opponent in half.
- Punny Name: Coming from the song Blue Suede Shoes.
- The Rival: To fellow rotund singer Helga.
- You Talk Too Much!: The most talkative character in the first game, with Bad Mr. Frosty in second place.
Ickybod Clay
- Bedsheet Ghost: A light purple one complete with a pumpkin head.
- The Bus Came Back: Ickybod Clay was cut from C2: Judgment Clay but reappeared in 63⅓ and Sculptor's Cut.
- Expy: He's clearly based on aspects of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, namely the name Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman.
- Ghostly Goals: Type B; he only wants to scare people.
- I Know Madden Kombat: Not used in his moves, but in one of his winposes in 63⅓, where he uses his own head as a basketball.
- Punny Name: Ickybod Clay is a pun on Ichabod Crane, obviously.
- Shotoclone: In 63⅓, including a "Boo-Hoo Ken".
- Stingy Jack: He has the basic design of a ghost with the pumpkin head.
- Teleport Spam: One of his supers in 63⅓, where Ickybod Clay repeatedly teleports in front of and behind the enemy, hitting them each time he appears.
- Villain Teleportation: Namely from teleporting at will as a special move.
- What Could Have Been: It was revealed that he could be part of C2 as another recycled character from C1 just like Tiny, but he was left out of the final game.
Helga
- Acrofatic: Despite being completely overweight, Helga is surprisingly agile and strong.
- Action Girl: One of the only female fighters in the series.
- Ass Kicks You: Helga has an attack where she hits the enemy with her huge butt.
- Battle Couple: In her ending. After being given thousands of marriage proposals before having to reach a decision on one of two of the most suitable final options available for her, Helga chose Tiny The Wrestler over Olaf The Stout, having kids together in the future who became the best wrestlers in the history of opera.
- Black Bead Eyes: She has this, which is prominent in her sprites and her magazine ad and manual appearances.
- Brawn Hilda: A classic example in the realm of video games.
- The Cameo: In C2: Judgment Clay's Mount Mushmore stage, along with the other characters didn't appear in this game (Blue Suede Goo, Bonker and Taffy (but not Ickybod Clay for—well, you see where this is going now, right?)).
- Glass-Shattering Sound: She uses this as one of her methods of attack.
- Horny Vikings: Helga wears a helmet with horns.
- Put on a Bus: She never appeared again since Tournament Edition outside of a cameo in C2.
- The Rival: To the other main singing character Blue Suede Goo.
- The Smurfette Principle: The only female in the game and the first one in the series.
- Stealth Pun: The ending credits always have an animation of Helga shouting at the very end. It ain't over 'til the fat lady sings.
- Stout Strength: One of the first fat and yet equally strong characters from the series.
Bonker
- The Bus Came Back: Bonker didn't appear on C2: Judgment Clay outside of a cameo but came back in 63⅓ and Sculptor's Cut.
- The Cameo: In C2: Judgment Clay's Mount Mushmore stage, along with the other characters didn't appear in this game (Blue Suede Goo, Helga and Taffy (but not Ickybod Clay for some odd reason)).
- Edible Ammunition: In C1 he attacks with a cream pies as his projectile attack.
- Happy Fun Ball: In 63⅓ Bonker sends his dog-shaped balloon animal "Fifi" to attack the enemy. This is his projectile in both this game and Sculptor's Cut.
- Revenge: His scheme is to kill everyone who laughed of him in the past, which is ironic considering that he IS a clown.
- The Rival: Taffy. In Sculptor's Cut, for some odd reason, it is Kung Pow instead.
- Seriously Scruffy: As part of his 63⅓ story, Bonker was under a lot of stress, so his doctor recommend that he take a vacation to relax. Unfortunately, he chose Klaymodo Island without knowing what he was getting himself into...
- Slasher Smile: In C1, given that his mouth is full of razor sharp teeth.
- You Don't Look Like You: From The Brute Slasher Smile clown of C1 to The Nothing but Skin and Bones Deadpan Snarker of 63⅓. Also, he has his clown clothes colored blue and then yellow respectively.
N. Boss
N. Boss is the final boss of Clayfighter. He looks a lot like a ring of beads with eyes on top. When he loses, he doesn't fall over, he frowns as some of his beads lay on the ground (meaning that his teeth have been knocked out). In his victory pose, he grins in victory.- Adaptation Inspiration: Apart of the bug that makes him playable in the first game, N. Boss also can be playable on M.U.G.E.N, even having some versiond with Claytalities.
- Comically Cross-Eyed: For some very odd reason, N. Boss' eyes spin around in the Sega Genesis version of Clayfighter.
- Ditto Fighter: N. Boss throws every projectile of all the characters from the game. But only on SNES versions, in Genesis averts this by throwing silver beads instead of everyone's projectiles.
- Final Boss: Of the first game (and Tournament Edition.)
- Giant Space Flea Out Of Nowhere: There's absolutely no foreshadowing about him and his moves mostly consist of throwing copies of everyone else's projectiles.
- Is That a Threat?: He doesn't look all that tough...
- Beware the Silly Ones: ...but he can be and pretty much is!
- Non-Standard Character Design: N. Boss' design resembles more a standard 16-bit sprite rather than a pre-rendered Claymation sprite like all the other Clayfighters.
- Promoted to Playable: In fangames like Ultra Clayfighter, also in Versus Mode only like the original game with the bug, and in ClayFighter: Infinite Clayfare will be a playable boss in the next Beta 2.
- Punny Name: His name is a poke at M.Bison and the phrase "end boss".
- Put on a Bus: Outside of a mere mention in the manual for C2, N. Boss doesn't appear again after Tournament Edition.
- The Bus Came Back: Thanks to fangames like Ultra Clayfighter and ClayFighter: Infinite Clayfare.
- Shout-Out: N. Boss strongly resembles Melon Bread of Gunstar Heroes, which is most especially evident when he wins and smiles in victory.◊ The only thing he really lacks is a red nose.
- The Voiceless: The only character that doesn't have voice in the game, not even grunts or something.
Nanaman
- Edible Ammunition: Nanaman throws sliced banana pieces as his projectile attack.
- Evil Twin/The Rival: Dr. Peelgood.
- Fan Animation: Just like with Tiny, Nanaman also has his own short film made in Claymation which takes place after his C2 ending (where he made a night club where he sings and dances), and has him making a show of his own version of "Cuban Pete".
- Food-Based Superpowers: Being a literal banana converted into a clayfighter, Nanaman throws banana slices as projectiles and can body slide to reach his opponents.
- I Have Many Names: Also called just as Nana.
- Improbable Weapon User: As a giant banana, he also uses parts of himself as weapons.
- Punny Name: Nanaman is short for "Banana Man".
- Put on a Bus: He never appeared again since C2.
- This Banana is Armed: A fighting banana. Enough said.
- Yellow/Purple Contrast: Nanaman has a yellow outfit, contrasting to Dr. Peelgood's purple, and is the good guy of the living bananas.
Octohead
- Combat Tentacles: Octohead fights with his tentacles as if they were hands and feet.
- Evil Twin/The Rival: Jack.
- Giant Squid: Or rather a human-sized octopus, but you get the idea.
- I Have Many Names: He is also referred to as just Octo.
- Life of the Party: A party animal, and quite literally so. Octohead lives to party, even to the point where, in his ending, he turns Mudville into the beach party capital of the world.
- Put on a Bus: He never appeared again since C2.
- Sea Monster: A far more kindly version of this trope compared to his clone.
- Waddling Head: Is basically all head, with tentacles coming out on the top.
Googoo
Googoo is a large baby from C2: Judgment Clay. As a very ghetto guy, he plays pool and chills with the ladies.- Evil Twin/The Rival: Spike.
- Expy: Of Baby Huey, but human. Sort of.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He's not exactly a saint, but in his ending, he makes Mudville a much better place by providing naptime centers for every citizen of Mudville, resulting in a far friendlier populace than before!
- Put on a Bus: He never appeared again since C2.
- Savage Spiked Weapons: His weapon of choice is a deadly-looking spiked rattle.
Hoppy/T-Hoppy
He made a return appearance in 63⅓ where the evil Dr. Kiln found Hoppy mortally wounded from the last game and replaced Hoppy's lost body parts with cybernetic implants and apparently altered his voice somehow, as he now spoke like a stereotypical drill sergeant; however, Hoppy turned on Dr. Kiln afterwards, hoping to destroy Kiln while regaining his own peace of mind (But in Sculptor's Cut, though, Dr. Kiln put some kind of mind control chip in him and made him work for him). In addition to the great physical strength from talking to his muscles and the cybernetic enhancements given to him, he is also an accomplished stage magician.
- The Ahnold: He is obviously based on Arnold Schwarzenegger. His voice actor in 63⅓ apparently didn't get the memo, though and instead gave him a Southern accent.
- Animal Mecha/Cyborg: In 63⅓ and Sculptor's Cut.
- Brainwashed and Crazy: In Sculptor's Cut, T-Hoppy is captured by Dr. Kiln, who brainwashed him with a control chip and is forcibly made into one of the mooks of Kiln. He is freed from Kiln's mind control in Boogerman's and Lady Liberty's endings in said game, but in his own ending, it doesn't happen.
- Drill Sergeant Nasty: Hoppy became this as T-Hoppy in 63⅓.
- Edible Ammunition: In C2, he throws carrots as his projectile attack. In 63⅓ and Sculptor's Cut, it is changed to a projectile attack where T-Hoppy shoots tortilla/nacho chips out of a gun hidden in his mechanical elbow joint.
- Evil Twin/The Rival: Sarge in C2.
- Rabbit Magician: In addition to the great physical strength from talking to his muscles and the cybernetic enhancements given to him, T-Hoppy is also an accomplished stage magician. This is seen in a couple of his Claytalities in which he converts his opponent into a carrot (and then eats it) or a clone of himself (with a heated chat that ends with the real T-Hoppy filling the clone with bullets).
- Red Baron: Known in various games as "The Battle Bunny".
- Shout-Out: One of his super combos, namely the "Jack Rabbit, Jack Rabbit, Yippie Coyote" one, resembles Ken's Shoryureppa with two low jump punches and a final high one.
- Terminator Impersonator: He was based on Terminator T-800, mainly due to his appearance in C2: Judgment Clay (in which even the game itself parodied the movie with Hoppy as one of the protagonists) with The Ahnold look and accent in addition to the muscles, glasses, and motorcycle. And in 63⅓ and Sculptor's Cut, he gets converted into a part-cyborg rabbit with some mechanic parts which makes him more of an Implacable Rabbit.
- Turned Against Their Masters: After his Cyborg change, T-Hoppy turned against Dr. Kiln for what he did to him... that is assuming that he didn't get brainwashed by Kiln in Sculptor's Cut.
- You Don't Look Like You: One of the returning characters that changed the most in 63⅓. Not only is T-Hoppy's physical appearance different, but his voice is different as well.
Kangoo
- Action Mom: Kangoo is a female kangaroo and while she fights has her little baby in her pouch (who also has boxing gloves like her.)
- Boxing Kangaroo: A rare case of one being in a fighting game.
- Evil Twin/The Rival: Thunder.
- Put on a Bus: She never appeared again since C2.
- Reluctant Warrior/Martial Pacifist: She's the WCBA champion, but she hates hurting people. She's said to use a first-aid kit to patch her opponents up after her matches (which doesn't help much, since she keeps her eyes closed due to hating the sight of spilled clay). Unfortunately, because she has no choice since retiring would mean having her fans lynch her in cold blood, Kangoo has to put her reluctance in fighting behind her and let loose on her opponents for the sake of her own survival!
- The Smurfette Principle: A female kangaroo and the sole female playable character of C2, which essentially makes her the replacement of Helga. It is subverted, however, when you unlock her rival Thunder.
Ice
- Evil Twin: Of Frosty.
- An Ice Person: Just like his twin.
- Made of Evil: There's no other reason to live than to hate (and eventually destroy) Frosty.
- Muck Monster: Ice is probably made of slush instead water, which is the reason why he's darker than Frosty. Not to mention that he's an evil clone made by Dr. Kiln.
- Put on a Bus: He never appeared again since C2.
- Slippy-Slidey Ice World: In his ending, he converts the town into a winter wonderland, and even uses the locals as his personal skiis.
Butch
- Combat Pragmatist: Unlike Tiny, Butch does not fight fair at all, especially if his projectile attack is an indication.
- Dumb Muscle: Even more than Tiny.
- Evil Twin: Of Tiny, but darker than him. Literally.
- Fartillery: Unlike Tiny, he has a projectile attack which involves passing gas.
- Fluffy the Terrible: Even with dumber face than Tiny.
- Put on a Bus: He never appeared again since C2.
- Took a Level in Dumbass: Not so much him, since he's already dumb to begin with, but in his C2 ending, he passes down a law that prohibits anyone in Mudville from being smarter than him.
- Walking Shirtless Scene
Slyck
Slyck is the evil counterpart of Blob. He appears along with all the other evil counterparts, in C2: Judgment Clay. Thus, he's Blob's final opponent (and even his own for some odd reason). Slyck looks just like the Blob, except he has yellow teeth, yellow eyes and is a different shade of green.- Blob Monster: Just like his twin.
- Evil Twin: Of Blob.
- Green and Mean: Meaner than Blob.
- Nightmare Face: Compared to The Blob's goofy Cheshire Cat Grin, he frowns and glares in a fairly nightmarish way.
- Put on a Bus: He never appeared again since C2.
- Yellow Eyes of Sneakiness: The main difference with Blob is his yellow sclera, which accentuates he's an evil character.
Dr. Peelgood
- Evil Twin: Of Nanaman.
- Food-Based Superpowers: Just like Nanaman, Dr. Peelgood uses his own banana origins and powers to his favor.
- Punny Name: His name is based on the titular Dr. Feelgood song.
- Put on a Bus: He never appeared again since C2.
- This Banana is Armed: A fighting banana just like Nanaman.
- Yellow/Purple Contrast: Contrasting Nanaman's yellow banana peel body with purple, he is purple and evil.
Jack
- Combat Tentacles: Same as his rival, Jack fights with his tentacles as punches and kicks.
- Deadpan Snarker: The opposite of Octohead.
- Giant Squid: Or rather a human-sized octopus like Octohead before him.
- Evil Twin: Of Octohead.
- Put on a Bus: He never appeared again since C2.
- Red Is Violent: A dark red variant, but indeed is more violent than Octo.
- Sea Monster: Unlike Octohead, he's a full-blown evil example.
Spike
Spike is the evil counterpart to Googoo in C2: Judgment Clay and is thus his final opponent (as well as his own). He is a lot like his rival, only way brattier. He has darker skin, and a purple bonnet and diaper. Some of his quotes are different from those of Googoo's and, if not different, are placed in other animations.- Bratty Half-Pint: Googoo isn't a saint, but Spike is far worse than he is in this regard.
- The Brute: Much more so than Googoo.
- Enfante Terrible: Compared to Googoo's Jerk with a Heart of Gold personality.
- Evil Twin: Of Googoo.
- Put on a Bus: He never appeared again since C2.
- Savage Spiked Weapons: As Googoo, his weapon of choice is a deadly-looking spiked rattle.
- Villainous Glutton: In his own ending, he steals all of Mudville's milk and dairy supplies. This ends up backfiring when he didn't drink the milk fast enough and was left with wondering what to do with all of the cottage cheese.
Sarge
Sarge is the evil counterpart of Hoppy, being a grey rabbit instead a yellow one as hoppy, and serves as his final opponent (as well as his own). He only appears in C2: Judgment Clay.- The Ahnold: Just like his twin.
- Evil Twin: Of Hoppy.
- Laser-Guided Karma: He is the only evil counterpart (other than Spike) to suffer from this in his own C2 ending; After putting an airplane engine on his motorcycle and running all of the vehicles off the road faster than the speed of light, Sarge foolishly threw the engine to its highest gear and landed on the nose of a commercial airliner!
- Put on a Bus: He never appeared again since C2.
- The Spartan Way: Sarge was trained in military unlike Hoppy and got his muscles that way.
Thunder
- Blood Knight: Unlike Kangoo, Thunder loves hurting people.
- Boxing Kangaroo: Just as Kangoo.
- Evil Overlord: In her ending, she rules Mudville with an iron paw and anyone who breaks some of her laws will pass "three months in her pouch with a stale shellfish."
- Evil Twin: Of Kangoo.
- Laser-Guided Karma: On the receiving end in Kangoo's ending, where Kangoo donates not only her championship belt to the Mudville museum but also her evil and sadistic opponent Thunder as well.
- Put on a Bus: She never appeared again since C2.
- Red Is Violent: Even when Kangoo also has the red in her gloves, Thunder represents better this trope being more violent than her counterpart. Indeed, she has a light reddish fur compared to Kangoo.
- The Smurfette Principle: The other female of the game along with Kangoo.
Kung Pow
- All Chinese People Know Kung-Fu: Being the only chinese character of the series, this can be appliable here.
- Awesome, but Impractical: One of his two taunts lasts 10 seconds. Yes, it's funny and awesome, but leaves you open to an attack, so it's not a good idea to make it during a fight.
- Beware the Silly Ones/Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: He's not exactly the best when it comes to cooking nor kung fu knowledge, but he is just as strong as the other clayfighters.
- Bruce Lee Clone: With the Funny Bruce Lee Noises and Kiais included. Even one of his Claytalities is the famous Finishing Stomp/Goomba Stomp.
- Catchphrase: "For here, or to go?"
- Chef of Iron: Especially from a guy who's also a martial artist.
- Edible Ammunition: Kind of invoked, since most of Kung Pow's moves are named after Chinese food dishes.
- Expy/Shout-Out: Of many characters:
- Of Bruce Lee, obviously.
- His name is a pun of "Kung Pao Chicken" and Kung Lao.
- Kung Pow also has a lot of references to Street Fighter:
- He uses a white martial arts outfit, which is red for the Player 2. This is a reference to Ryu and Ken respectively.
- Various of his moves are based on this game series: His Kick Shoryuken move, "Egg Fu Yong", is very similar to Fei Long's "Shien Kyaku" but without the fire; the pose of "Crane Technique" is very similar to the "Hadoken" for shotoclones; the triple forward kicks move "Chop Suey" resembles Dan Hibiki's "Dankuukyaku";and the super combo "Lo Mein" looks the same as Ryu's "Shinkuu Tatsumaki Senpuukyaku".
- More a coincidence than a shout-out is the character El Fuerte from Street Fighter IV series, who's also a cook and a fighter as him, but he's a Masked Luchador instead of a kung-fu practitioner as Kung Pow. But at least they both coincide in their repulsive meals and habits of mixing their fighting and cooking techniques in their moveset.
- Frying Wok of Doom: Kung Pow uses his wok to attack the enemy as part of some of his moves, even as a super and a Claytality.
- Heel–Face Turn: He used to work for Sumo Santa, but he is now on the side of justice.
- Lethal Chef: Kung Pow was fired by Sumo Santa for the repulsive meals he prepared.
- Martial Arts and Crafts: Mixing Kung Fu and cooking skills.
- Ninja Pirate Zombie Robot: A martial artist Chinese food chef.
- Real Men Cook: Is probably a better cook than he is a fighter.
- What the Fu Are You Doing?: Manages to weaponize this with some of his moves, fumbling his attacks but still hurting the enemy.
Happy Harry Houngan
- Alliterative Name: The letter H is repeated three times in his name.
- Ax-Crazy: In a series filled with mentally unstable characters, Houngan is one of the most maniacal and bloodthirst.
- Clown-Car Grave/Night of the Living Mooks: Everytime Houngan summons zombie hands everywhere on the island.
- The Dragon: To Dr. Kiln, assisting him with his experiments.
- Dragon with an Agenda: Houngan has his own plans about the meteorite in 63⅓, but it's subverted in Sculptor's Cut where he's Kiln's right hand.
- Ethnic Magician: A fairly standard Hollywood Voodoo witch doctor.
- Expy: He could be based on Jobo, the name of Claymates's Big Bad according to its manual, who is also a Witch Doctor who wanted the clay formula to rule the world.
- Improbable Weapon User: A rubber chicken, which also can attack in one of Houngan's super moves thanks to the latter's magic.Chicken Licken!
- Laughably Evil: Despite being scary looking, and an evildoer, he is just as silly and laughable as the other clayfighters.
- Magical Native American: Subverted, since he comes from Haiti.
- Monster Clown: He looks like an evil voodoo clown who, unlike Bonker before him, uses voodoo magic rather than clown tricks.
- Necromancer: Houngan can summon zombies (specifically, zombie hands) as seen in one of his super moves and in a Claytality.
- Only One Name: Usually known just as Houngan.
- Scary Black Man: And sure enough, he is one.
- Shout-Out: In his intro, he rolls his head in 180° and puts it back for the fight, just like in The Exorcist.
- Slasher Smile: All the time, even when he is angry.
- Summon Magic: Voodoo magic to be exact. He can summon zombie hands from the ground. ("Hands of the dead... you lazy clay!")
- Witch Doctor: A voodoo one, certainly.
Earthworm Jim
Having his own videogame and TV animated series, Earthworm Jim comes to Clayfighter for first time as a Guest Fighter. Initially just wanting to go on vacation at Klaymodo Island, Jim joins Bad Mr. Frosty, Blob, and the other heroes to fight against Dr. Kiln's world domination plans.
- The Ace: Both in and out of universe, being an accomplished superhero and regarded as one of the best characters in the game.
- Action Hero: Of his own series.
- Call-Back: His taunt as well one of his winposes consists of Jim throwing up his gun with his hand (in his winpose, the gun shoots by itself and gives him an Ash Face), which is just like one of his poses without moving for a while in his games.
- Calling Your Attacks: Mostly, other times he just smacktacks the enemy.
- Comedic Hero: Just like in his series.
- Drop the Cow: Following the Brick Joke of his origin series, Jim has this as one of his claytalities, in which he summons a cow that ground pounds his opponent literally◊.
- Guest Fighter: While not the first one (since he also appeared in the PC version of Battle Arena Toshinden as a Secret Character (and Moveset Clone of Rungo Iron), which is distribuited by Playmates, the same company that distributed Earthworm Jim games in The '90s), his appearance in Clayfighter counts as this.
- The Rival: To Boogerman in the original game. In Sculptor's Cut this was changed to Ickybod Clay as the Rival Final Boss.
- Secret Character: In Sculptor's Cut via a Classic Cheat Code.
- Shotoclone: Jim has almost all moves and commands to be stated as this, having an Energy Ball and a Shoryuken in his moveset.
- Shout-Out:
- One of his super combos resembles Guy's Bushin Hasoken from Street Fighter Alpha series, another Guest Fighter in a fighting game.
- Speaking of Street Fighter, another super combo resembles Ken's Shoryureppa with various small EWJ Punches followed with a high one in the end.
- Snake Whip: Like in his games, his own worm body can be used for some of his basic punches, his one throw, and even as a claytality.
Sumo Santa
Sumo Santa first appeared in 63⅓. Whether he is an evil twin of Santa Claus or even Santa himself depends on the game, but he has nevertheless taken over the North Pole and angered Bad Mr. Frosty. In Clayfighter 63⅓, he wants to take over the world but can't until Dr. Kiln and Frosty are out of the picture. In Sculptor's Cut, his rivalry with Frosty is still prominent but instead he wants to kick everyone off the island so he and his elves can continue making toys for the children of the world.
- Adaptational Heroism: In Sculptor's Cut, Sumo Santa's only goal is to selflessly continue making toys for all of the good children of the world, despite the fact that he is willing to butt heads with everybody (even his rival Bad Mr. Frosty), and his ending is one of the more optimistic outcomes because of this!
- Arch-Nemesis: Bad Mr. Frosty, even when he is a good guy they don't get along well.
- Ass Shove: One of his Claytalities involves him jumping up out of the screen for a moment, before landing ass-first on the opponent, who is then stuck in his rectum. After a few seconds Sumo Santa eventually farts him out in pieces.
- Bad Santa: But only in 63⅓.
- The Dragon: To Dr. Kiln in the original game.
- Dragon with an Agenda: Sumo Santa has his own plans to Take Over the World apart of Kiln, which is only true in 63⅓.
- Evil Twin: He would be this of the real Santa Claus...
- Face–Heel Turn: But is actually more known as the real Santa Claus. In some moment between the first and third game, his rivalry with Frosty made him evil. In 63⅓, this rings true with his secret world domination plans, but in Sculptor's Cut, it is ultimately averted given his far more noble goal in delivering presents to the children of the world without any evil intentions in that game.
- Goomba Stomp: One of his moves, which stomps you with his belly, and in one of his Claytalities, he squashes the opponent with his butt, with fatal results.
- Improbable Weapon User: Sumo Santa attacks you with his waistcloth, x-mas gifts, candy dance, and even his own belly.
- Secret Character: In both 63⅓ and Sculptor's Cut, he is selectable via a Classic Cheat Code.
- Sub-Boss: In higher difficult levels.
- Sumo Wrestling: Fittingly so, given his name.
- Stout Strength: He even uses his own belly to attack the opponent.
- Walking Shirtless Scene: In this case, it's Fan Disservice.
Dr. Henerik Kilnklein (Dr. Kiln)
- Artificial Limbs: Dr. Kiln replaced his left hand with a mechanical prosthetic one which can transform into a chainsaw, a scalpel, a machine gun and other dangerous things, after he was forced to amputate it when he accidentally touched the goo the meteor emitted which caused it to gain a life of its own.
- Big Bad: Of the series in general, taking over N. Boss' role of such after the first game, creating the clones for C2, and then manifestating himself in 63⅓.
- Bioweapon Beast: Many of the creatures he creates are engineered from just about anything, living or otherwise, for this purpose, though only a few stay under his control.
- Catchphrase: "The Doctor is in!"
- Final Boss: In 63⅓, but that is only if you choose Normal difficulty or beyond. In Sculptor's Cut, he is the Rival Final Boss for High Five, but is otherwise not this trope.
- The Ghost:
- He's supposedly the Big Bad of the second game (as mentioned in that game's instruction manual), but he didn't appear in person until the third.
- It is recently discovered that he was going to be a character for the game until the idea was scrapped. He even has his own model, which is very different from his 63⅓ and Sculptor's Cut and has him looking like a bald man with a brown jacket, brown pants, black gloves, black shoes, and even visible eyes with no glasses on◊.
- Mad Scientist: Complete with the stereotypical hunched back, glasses, and German accent.
- Monumental Theft: Dr. Kiln stole the Statue of Liberty and converted it into Lady Liberty.
- Secret Character: In 63⅓, who is selectable via a Classic Cheat Code.
- Shapeshifter Weapon: His hand was replaced with that a mechanical one which can transform into just about anything he wants. Mostly, it is seen as a One-Handed Shotgun Pump.
- Turned Against Their Masters: Most of Kiln's creations rebelled against him, with the only exceptions being his dog Lockjaw Pooch and T-Hoppy in Sculptor's Cut (and he had to resort to Mind Control for Hoppy).
Boogerman
- Action Hero: Of his own game.
- Comedic Hero: Alongside Earthworm Jim
- Fartillery: Various of his farts are used to move faster or as a Claytality where Boogerman burns his opponent with this.
- Gasshole: As in his origin game.
- Guest Fighter: This is his second appearance after his own videogame for Genesis and SNES.
- Improbable Weapon User: As in his game, he uses his own secretions (farts, boogers, etc.) as weapons.
- Meaningful Name: All of his abilities and attacks revolve around gross things, which does indeed include boogers.
- The Pig-Pen: The most disgusting character in the series (and probably the second one if HoboCop wasn't scrapped).
- The Rival: To Earthworm Jim, only to ironically be a rival with Lockjaw Pooch in Sculptor's Cut instead.
- Secret Character: In 63⅓ and Sculptor's Cut. In both instances, you can unlock him via a Classic Cheat Code in the select screen.
- Sub-Boss: In higher difficult levels.
- Toilet Humor: His main shtick.
Lady Liberty
- Battle Couple: With T-Hoppy in her own ending after freeing him from Kiln's Mind Control.
- Butch Lesbian: Not esentially a lesbian, but she has the whole stereotype, which includes short hair and muscles.
- For Great Justice: Being the American icon she is, Libby fights for truth, justice, and the American way, being this the main reason why she rebelled against Dr. Kiln.
- In-Series Nickname: Stated in the manual and her ending as "Libby".
- Lady of War: A heroic Lady Of War with a good cause, that is.
- Living Statue: Quite obviously, considering that she is the Statue of Liberty.
- One of the Boys: Considered as this for the rest of the characters in the game.
- Playing with Fire: Lady Liberty uses her own torch as a flamethrower.
- The Smurfette Principle: The only woman in Sculptor's Cut, taking on the trope after Helga from Clayfighter and Kangoo (and not counting Thunder) from C2.
- Turned Against Their Masters: Lady Liberty is another one of Kiln's creations that turned against him.
- Weaponized Landmark: She is THE Statue of Liberty who had been claymized by Dr. Kiln.
Lockjaw Pooch
- Angry Guard Dog: An especially monstrous Ax-Crazy one.
- Back from the Dead: He was reported to be dead by the programmers of the game in 63⅓ only to be back with a vengeance for Sculptor's Cut.This animal was severely hurt in the making of this game. Rest in peace, Lockjaw.
- Bioweapon Beast: And the only one still loyal to him.
- Blood Knight: Lockjaw lives to attack others that dare try to attack his own master...which is ironic considering that it is possible for Lockjaw to fight him anyway.
- Canine Companion: To Dr. Kiln.
- Covers Always Lie: Appearing in the cover made us think he could appeared in 63⅓, which didn't happen.
- Early-Bird Cameo: Even when he didn't appear in 63⅓ as a playable character, Lockjaw appeared to be fighting T-Hoppy in the game cover and after beating the game in any difficulty with the message above after being killed by T-Hoppy.
- Face–Heel Turn: Maybe he wasn't so bad in the past, but after being mutated as a Clayfighter, Lockjaw became REALLY bad as is stated in his Sculpter's Cut story:This is one dog who is Bad to the Bone!
- Funny Animal: He can stand in his two back feet and talk like a human, which is all thanks to the meteorite.
- Mook: To Dr. Kiln, who is both his master as an owner and master as an evil mastermind.
- My Master, Right or Wrong: The only Dr. Kiln's creation that is still loyal to him.
- Post-Apocalyptic Dog: Lockjaw survived clay radiation and is still kicking asses.
- The Rival:
- Supposedly, Lockjaw and Hobocop are meant to be rivals◊, but after Hobocop was scrapped, his Suspiciously Similar Substitute Boogerman took his place as Lockjaw's rival in Sculptor's Cut.
- And even before that, stated in 63⅓ in the cover and in the "Rest in peace Lockjaw" screen after finishing the game, T-Hoppy should be his rival in this game. Instead, that idea was scrapped mostly because T-Hoppy in Sculptor's Cut was brainwashed by Dr. Kiln becoming one of his mooks and eventually an ally to Lockjaw.
- Was Once a Dog: He was once Dr. Kiln's pet bull terrier, but had been mutated by the meteorite goop into the monstrosity he is now.
- Urine Trouble: One of his attacks was supposed to be Lockjaw peeing on his opponent. This idea was quickly scrapped early on because of censorship.
Zappa Yow Yow Boyz
- Amazing Technicolor Population: The three Boyz are colored with different skin colors (not normal ones, by the way).
- Cannibal Clan: The Boyz come from a native cannibal tribe of Klaymodo.
- I Am a Humanitarian:
- One of their attacks, or claytalities, which have involved cooking the opponent with a large cauldron before eating them, but that was scrapped early on in development. As a sort of Development Gag, two of their Claytalities involve said large cauldron, but it is used to squash the opponent flat or as a case of it backfiring on them as it tries to squash them instead, forcing them to run like hell while the opponent is unscathed!
- There's another claytality where the three of them attacks the opponent in a Big Ball of Violence just to finish with the three of the Boyz only with a "tadaaa!", which is implied that they Just Eat Him in that claytality.
- I Have Many Names: The three mooks are called Fofo (top), Gling (middle) and Kapu (bottom).
- Iconic Stage: The Tribal Tower, which is a tower of giant tribal drums and is the highest point on the island. This is Boyz's stage and it was programmed since the beginning in the game, but since the Boyz weren't part of the final release, the stage is still available as a 63⅓ versus stage in the Secret Options via a Classic Cheat Code.
- Protect This House: Zappa Yow Yow Boyz consider the rest of Clayfighters as invaders, so they will fight them to protect their homeland, no matter if they're good or bad.
- The Rival: Supposedly, they are this to Houngan, since he hates them, but they are the rival of Taffy for Sculptor's Cut instead for some odd reason.
- Rule of Three: The three kids are fighting as one character and are stacked on top of each other.
- Rolling Attack: The Boyz throw one of their partners to damage the enemy. And there is a super version where the three roll together to cause more damage.
- Shout-Out: The green boy of the trio reminds Frankenstein's Monster, not just for being green but the face seems modeled like him.
- True Neutral: The Zappy Yow Yow Boyz are neither good nor evil since they are neither on the side of the Heroes nor the Villains. All they want to get everybody off of their island since they are more or less trespassing.
High Five
- Body Horror: A giant hand with bleeding arteries and open flesh.
- Creepy Good: A creepy giant hand with clearly visible cut wounds and blood though he may be, he is a virtuous giant hand with a strong sense of justice!
- Creepy Long Fingers: Coming from a giant mutated hand, this is obvious.
- Expy: Of Thing T. Thing from The Addams Family.
- Gorn: He's the only character who can be seen with his arteries and spills of blood showing in his Spin Attack.
- Helping Hands: He is a heroic hand who is willing to fight the evil Dr. Kiln and his men alongside the other heroes, which is most especially evident with his ending.
- Hurricane of Puns: As his name suggest, High Five mostly talks with hand puns.
- Organ Autonomy: Thanks to the mutation from the clay meteor.
- Perpetual Beta: High Five was released unfinished, with various incomplete basic punches and kicks, no throws, no variations of his moves, just 1 super move and no Claytalities. Maybe for these reasons, he became a Secret Character unlockable by a code.
- Power Fist/Power Palms: High Five himself is a giant hand.
- Revenge: Against his evil master Dr. Kiln.
- Secret Character: Unlockable via a Classic Cheat Code in the select screen.
- Talk to the Hand: Literally, since High Five also has a voice (and a high-pitched one at that).
- Turned Against Their Masters: High Five was Dr. Kiln's severed hand that had been mutated into a large and sentient being by the clay meteor. Fittingly, he holds deep hatred towards his former host.
- Viewer Gender Confusion: Is referred to as a "he", but his voice actor is female (and using a high-pitched voice, at that).
Lucy the Gorilla
Lucy the Gorilla was meant to appear in C2: Judgment Clay but was taken out due to time constraints. Actual gameplay of her can be seen in the C2 trailer where she is fighting Tiny.- Gentle Giant: One of the only details of her personality is she was kindly.
- Half-Dressed Cartoon Animal/Accessory-Wearing Cartoon Animal: Lucy only wears a skirt and a hair tie..
- Replacement Goldfish: Tiny was supposed to be the replacement of Lucy, but decades later, it is revealed that she only didn't get in the game because of schedule constraints and not for being replaced by Tiny. A magazine scan for ''C2'' proves that this is the case!
- Tertiary Sexual Characteristics: In addition to her name, the skirt and the hair tie clearly states that Lucy is a female gorilla.
- What Could Have Been: As with all of the characters in C2, Lucy probably would have gotten her own Evil Twin if she wasn't scrapped, which would have meant more characters for the game.
HoboCop
HoboCop was an idea for a character in Clayfighter 63⅓, but cut from the final version for many reasons, with the most well-believed being that he was too controversial. In early screen shots for 63⅓, HoboCop was said to use attacks based on alcohol as well as flashing his genitals. However, like many other fighters in this beta, attacks like this were probably removed. Although there were other characters that did not appear in 63⅓, HoboCop was the only one that didn't return in Sculptor's Cut.In April 2021, a very early development version of Clayfighter Extreme was found and released to the Internet, with HoboCop still a playable character. While this particular build is very glitchy and crash-prone and doesn't actually have much gameplay implemented, HoboCop's full sprite sheet was extracted from it.
- Adaptation Inspiration:
- For the 2019 April Fools' Day, HoboCop was "recreated" for M.U.G.E.N by the author Basara-kun as if he was ripped from ClayFighter Extreme beta while, in reality, being ripped from old gaming magazines screenshots and gameplay videos from the beta and with the voice of Shrek. As the author said it himself: "this is probably the only chance for all of us to play with HoboCop for real, or a recreation about how he would be for CF games."
- With the complete rip of HoboCop sprites from Extreme leaked beta, the author considered making him as a proper character to be included in his fangame ClayFighter: Infinite Clayfare, but development on that game was discontinued because of a cease and desist from Interplay.
- The Alcoholic: His profile says that he likes alcohol (not to mention that he carries a bottle in his hand at all times).
- Back Story: Unlike Lucy, HoboCop did have one.
- CamelCase: His name is written as one word, but with a capital "C" in the middle.
- Drunken Master: He even has a bottle in his hand.
- Expy: Of Robocop, obviously.
- Garbage Wrestler: Literally.
- Grail in the Garbage: Despite his appearance (and being homeless), he's a cop with a sense of justice.
- Hobos: Exactly What It Says on the Tin.
- The Pig-Pen: Even more than Boogerman.
- Replacement Goldfish: As Lucy in C2, Earthworm Jim was known as the replacement of HoboCop in 63⅓, which later was unveiled that Jim was to be included in the game anyway before HoboCop was cancelled.
- Stout Strength
- Trash of the Titans: He's literally a guy who uses trash as his armor.
- Use Your Head: HoboCop got a couple of headbutt attacks.
- What Could Have Been: Being discovered as a character in the roster of Clayfighter Extreme beta for PlayStation and even having a complete sprite sheet of his own (courtesy of Folkin and Raccoon Sam of The Spriters Resource) hints that he could have been an exclusive character in that game if it had been finished.
