Sonic the Hedgehog film series general

I doubt even Disney can trick the casuals with Mufasa. Last one was The Lion King, an classic for the parents and kids.

True, but, given their latest box-office records, they shouldn't count on it.

Refocusing on the topic, now that the Mufasa trailer has dropped, what do we think Paramount is gonna do for Sonic 3?

Like how likely is a repeat of Dungeons and Dragons vs John Wick/Mario?

Sonic 3's winning the battle, and it isn't even gonna be close.

It's Shadow. Somehow, he's still popular enough.

It will sell.

Remember, Shadow's first game was also his first appearance on a Nintendo console. For many 2000s Nintendo fans who only saw Sonic as "that rival to Mario", he was part of their introduction to the franchise. And 20+ years later, in the Age of Nostalgia? Of course he's still popular!

It's kind of hard to tell which movie is going to do well in December. Sure, the first live action Lion King movie made over $1 Billion and Disney has a history of making over $1 Billion at the box office, but that was years ago and I don't know how people feel about having a prequel movie about Mufasa. I'm kind of leaning towards Sonic 3 being the one to make more money because the third movie will have Shadow in it (not only that, but Keanu Reeves is voicing Shadow) and the Sonic movies are something brand new to the movie industry at the moment.

sonic 3 is absolutely making more money

i doubt most people who watched the Lion King went "oh that's cool i wonder what Mufasa's backstory is" and then see Mufasa coming out and go "FINALLY"

I hope they are. Sonic 3 is set to be a blockbuster, while Mufasa looks dirt-ugly like its predecessor and won't have nostalgia or novelty propping it up this time.

All the same it's likely that Mufasa will make boatloads of money from families going to the movies the same way Sonic will.

I can play conspiracies and pretend Mufasa is some money laundering business from Disney's part so it breaks new ground or whatever, but I doubt that's the case.

Sonic 3 also has actual good visual effects, especially with the eponymous hedgehog and his fellows.

Lion King and Mufasa just look lifeless because they try so hard to emulate real animals, but strip away any character and personality in the processs.

The Lion King and it's remake are two of the highest grossing movies of all time. I would not count on it bombing lol. Most of the backlash is coming from online circles who are more likely to prefer Sonic anyway.

There were mostly based on the original plot. This prequel may not gather much of the same records.

I very much doubt it will bomb. As for beating Sonic 3 however... that is harder to ascertain. I think Mufasa will do well, but certainly won't do anywhere near as well as the remake itself.

Okay, so, watching the Knuckles series...

Man, it really disappoints me that a series supposedly focused on the echidna in question decides to switch the spotlight to Wade instead. I was expecting something delving into Knuckles' history in this universe, but instead we get Wade, who, while I like, don't care about nearly as much as the actual Sonic characters.

I came here for the echidna, not some other guy.

Yeah, I just stuck around for the first episode. Wade is fine in small doses, but I watch Knuckles the Echidna for Knuckles the Echidna.

I’m sure Wade’s actor is good at the role, but I just don’t care for his character, and I feel that supporting this show would give Paramount the wrong message.

I’m a fan of the Sonic characters, not the boring humans. Chris Thorndyke gets a pass but not Wade. Sorry.

They missed a chance to expand on Knuckles, a character that has been misrepresented for a long time but they didn’t.
