Maybe they should move on instead of endlessly rebooting the same franchise?
New theme music also a boxThere's a difference between rebooting (retelling the story albeit with twists that deviate from the original to tell the story for new audiences) and doing prequels/intrequals (what the recent Alien works are).
I get that the prequels weren't great, but I don't think there's much of a future for the franchise without expanding the lore. You can only rehash the same story so many times
I don't think trying to expand the lore with the Engineers was a bad idea at all. If there was any direction to go with the series, that was good way to go about it. It's just that the execution of Prometheus was a bit lacklustre.
I feel like the movie was intentionally building up to an anticlimax with the reason why the Engineers decided to create humanity, since there was some early foreshadowing with David's talk with Holloway about how the Engineers may have just made humanity just because they could. But the way the film ends on a Sequel Hook with Shaw wanting to get answers about why they turned against humanity suggests a deeper reason that leaves the film feeling incomplete. And with Covenant going in a completely different direction, it makes a lot of what Prometheus was trying to do feel a bit aimless in the grand scheme of things.
Of course, people have brought up other issues like the characters making some really dumb decisions despite being professional scientists. There could've been some neat satire if they went with the idea that Weyland Industries could only find the most crackpot team to accomplish a mission like theirs, pointing out how corporate-driven scientific endeavours care more about profit and gain over actual caution and practising the scientific method. But I'm not sure if that was the intent. Especially since the first Alien starred what was essentially a bunch of space truckers, and they executed more caution and sound logic than a bunch of scientists.
I still haven't seen Covenant, but from what I've heard has... not been kind.
And to get back on what this thread is (I didn't start this thread to be Alien-only), I just hope that we get a newer Alien vs. Predator story that isn't hamstrung by Executive Meddling (the decision to put the crossovers into early-21st century Earth).

The Owl House and Coyote Vs Acme are my Roman Empire. So back to Alien.
I don't know what these movies are anymore. I thought the story finished with the 4th one and AVP was just vibing on the 2000's trend of CGI monster movies for the hell of it.
Akira Toriyama (April 5 1955 - March 1, 2024).Wasn't it always?
You and I remember Budapest very differentlyIt was, but now they’ve confirmed it.
The Owl House and Coyote Vs Acme are my Roman Empire.Romulus seems like it has potential. Alvarez has some good work under his belt and the cast is pretty good.
Between that and the Noah Hawley tv show the next few years could be very good for the franchise.
Deadline has announced they’re bring back Tractenberg for another Predator movie.

The Owl House and Coyote Vs Acme are my Roman Empire.I wonder if there will be a point when these Alien and Predator movies will lead into a proper Alien vs. Predator movie.
Apparently the rumors (courtesy of Hollywood Reporter) are saying this one will be set in the future.

And they’re developing a more direct sequel too. With Midthunder coming back.
The Owl House and Coyote Vs Acme are my Roman Empire.Prey is the best either franchise has been in decades so that's good news.
Dan Trachtenberg, eh? Is he related to Michelle by any chance, aka. Harriet the Spy, aka. another person from my childhood that seemingly does nothing anymore?
Don’t think so.
Here’s his page: Dan Trachtenberg
The Owl House and Coyote Vs Acme are my Roman Empire.Bumping with news:
Fede Alvarez is teasing SOMETHING for tomorrow on his Twitter. Could be a trailer or a poster for Romulus.

The Owl House and Coyote Vs Acme are my Roman Empire.Sound off, who was expecting the Xenomorph to show up out of the smoke and behind the lady? Because I was, and was swiftly proven wrong when it smash cut to the ceiling(?).
Hoo boy, between that plus the blood-splattered door plus the chasing face-huggers, this will be one for the brown pants, won't it?
And apparently this is set between Alien and Aliens? Need to verify that, but so far, Fede Alvarez is cooking something fierce!
Good grief, Disney (by way of 20th Century Studios) is actually doing some good with Fox's horror library, isn't it?
Yep.
Made a page. Please help me keep it nice.
The Owl House and Coyote Vs Acme are my Roman Empire.Wow, I will admit: that looked like proper Alien, and quite good as far as the trailer shows! ^_^
Looking at what appears to be a space-station setting, I wonder whether they took any inspiration from Alien: Isolation...
Venturing into speculation... At one point we see a bank of cryopods, one of which seems to be conspicuously full of blood. Perhaps a case of a chestburster in cryo...? Maybe even the inciting incident...?

My Games & WritingOh man. I can already imagine the fridge (no pun intended) horror: Being cryogenically frozen doesn't do jack because a chestburster can still burst out. Forget "I have no mouth and I must scream." This is "my body is frozen and I must scream."
And Dora the Explorer (or rather her live-action actress) is in this?! Now that's insane.

The siren in the background let me know right off the bat that this movie is in great hands.
It's been 3000 years…
Ronald Shushett, Dan O’ Bannon and H. R. Giger among others made the first Alien possible. Scott was an important part too, but becoming the de-facto leader of the franchise made a mess of things through his own incompetence.
And now this is the fourth time they wiped the slate clean. Hopefully it’s better this time.
I’m sorry, but you have Stage 9 Animes.
