Something that is not clear to me is what relationship the Dra. Andrews has with the veterinarian.

From the way they spoke in their initial scene I assumed they were siblings or childhood friends, but it was not clear.

I figured Trapper was her ex, based on the dialogue.

I thought Trapper was her college buddy. They seem like just friends from what I saw.

Just saw it with my best friend today. This is actually her very first Monsterverse movie, with Minus One being her first Godzilla movie, and she really enjoyed it! I loved that she loved MOTHRA!

As for me, I enjoyed it, but I do think this probably comes last for the Monsterverse movies for me. I did liked the long sequences were it's just monsters interacting, no dialogue for long periods of time. Speaking of dialogue, I did feel they improved here in comparison from the previous two entries, with no more comments of "giant monsters, that's stupid, imma right?".

And not gonna lie, I teared when Godzilla, Kong, and Mothra are all together. Seeing the 3 most iconic monsters in cinema really is a sight to behold.

Never forget that Rodan bowed down to Ghidorah. That must have been very embarrassing to him.

Rodan went back into hibernation after Godzilla king of the monsters.

Whenever the next Monsterverse movie arrives, I would love to make it with the humans getting even less focus and refine the whole "Monsters using their expressions to communicate with each other instead of words" technique Gx K used. It would help the Monsterverse stand out from Toho's films, especially if Takeshi Yamazaki gets to do a Minus One Sequel like he wants to.

The Japanese movies can focus on compelling human drama, because its obvious that the Monsterverse will go all in on the Monsters themselves.

[up] Seconded, especially if Kadokawa Daei does something for Gamera's 60th birthday this year, have one of those be an announcement that Kadokawa makes a deal with Toho and Legendary to have Gamera and his own Rogues gallery be a part of the Monsterverse.

I would really like a Mothra Solo series in the verse in the vein of Rebirth of Mothra, especially since her role here has been rather well received with audiences.

Saw the movie, had a great time. Love how they are going more and more into giving the kaiju's solo screentime, all of Kong's scenes are incredible because of how emotive and brimming with personality he is.

Also Skar King is a diabolical sonofabitch. Loved how deliciously evil he is, so mocking, petty and sadistic. Like Kong is absolutely brimming with personality too, and love how his animation emphasizes how he's more a speed and tactical fighter to Kong and Godzilla's more brute force.

According to Wingard he wanted Skar King to become Kong's Ghidorag equivalent, finally giving him his own named rival and I just love all the expansion Kong has been getting in the Monsterverse.

This is literally the most material he's gotten in decades since until Skull Island every Kong film largely was a straightforward retelling of the original movie.

Huh, Scar King being King Kong's Ghidorah makes sense now that I think about it.

It does feel a little weird that Kong's Ghidorah equivalent is another ape and not a dinosaur. Mainly due to the rivalry he has with them in other works.

I guess it helps give Scar King some contrast to Ghidorah, because while Ghidorah is a space dragon, Scar King is a fellow monkey who is the reason why King Kong spent most of life in isolation from his species.

Got to see it. Love how they're fully embracing the campier elements of Godzilla now. Here's hoping for even more...

An advantage of Kong is that being so emotional he can show us what he is thinking through gestures and reactions, unlike Godzilla who is more stoic.

Honestly Kong is the protagonist, while Godzilla is a supporting character.

[up][up] Well, when they share a movie, yes. It's natural to put them in those roles... a gorilla is of course a lot easier to humanize since they can easily ape our body language and facial expressions. But when Godzilla's in the main protagonist seat, he's plenty capable of showing emotion.

I missed the part where that's my problem.

Saw it with my wife this afternoon. It was exactly what I expected and was more enjoyable than G vs K just based on, as previously noted, the humans being tolerable instead of annoying, with the vet being the best of the bunch by a long shot. I almost busted out laughing when "I Was Made for Loving You" started playing; of all the KISS songs they could've chosen...

[up][up] Yes, Godzilla can display emotions. But I always felt like the less you know what Godzilla is thinking, the more intriguing he is. Is he a hero or a monster? Does he care about humans or not?

And it works because you would always have that fear that Godzilla will one day become a threat to humanity. It may happen or it may not happen, but you pray that he doesn't turn his wrath on you. Just like a God.

Saw this today. I enjoyed it more than GvK. As stated above, the human characters aren't completely irritating this time, which goes a long way towards making their plot sequences tolerable. I like the synergy between Kong's arc and the girl's. Both find their people and act as saviors.

I still don't know how Kong is supposed to be this great savior when he's clearly old and tired and keeps getting chumped by everything larger than a ferret. I guess he can always tag in his nuclear-powered buddy as long as someone's there to play mediator.

Gotta say... it's pretty lucky that the humans had built him some power armor that came with frostbite-curing serum. Who knew it would be the perfect solution for this exact plot point?

Also, I don't know why humans in the Monsterverse bother building cities. They're just playsets for the kaiju to wreck.

[up] I suppose it helps that Kong is 100% chiller than Godzilla and less propense to causing mass destruction for the sake of a grudge. Also, he did lead the revolution to stop Skar King and was crucial in derailing the plans of the ape enough that Mothra and Godzilla were able to properly dominate the villains rather than being either caught off-guard or have too much in their plate to properly focus against Shimo.
