Welcome to Estalia, gentlemen. You made me doubt myself and look it up. The next federal election is 2025, and there are several elections on state level 2024. There might be smaller elections happening still this year, including mayor of the town where I happen to live, but nothing important enough for Wikipedia's list of upcoming elections.
So whatever Sarah Wagenknecht and friends are up to, they have a bit more time to form a proper party, and what's left of the federal Left Party has some time to react to it before the next big election rolls around.
(For the record, I'm not a fan of Wagenknecht.)

The AfD candidate won.
See here: Germany: Far-right AfD wins first city mayoral election (Don't know if the website is a good news source, just the first English source that I can find that doesn't require a login or paywall)
The ZDF has some background information on the new mayor here: AfD-Kandidat gewinnt erstmals OB-Wahl. For those of us who don't read German: he is not a party member but does not distance himself from the far-right stance of the party either. He has made Facebook posts in the past comparing the Covid-19 laws to Guantanamo and accusing the CDU politician Michael Kretschmer of being in favor of a "great population reset". Compared to other AfD members and associates, that is still rather moderate.
Now it stands to see how the town reacts to the new mayor. We have a memorial for the disabled and mentally ill people that were murdered under the Nazi regime. The organization running the memorial already said that they (understandably) don't want to work with anyone associating with the AfD.

Starting today (actually, it started a few days ago, but today it really gained traction) Germany is experiencing huge protests against the Traffic Light Coalition, led by Farmers
But to be honest, it is not just Farmers anymore. A whole lot of middle class workers have joined as well.

People glueing themselves to a street or a building deserve to be beaten up and subjected to the harshest methods our state has available, but those farmers? Just concerned citizens and the providers of our country, guys.
Honestly, the mood in this country has been turning really ugly over the years and it's concerning, especially with how a lot of people think the solution to our budget problems is to kick down on the poor and unemployed again.

Welcome to Estalia, gentlemen.Scholz urges unity against far right after mass deportation ‘masterplan’ revealed
Excerpt:
According to the investigative outlet Correctiv, which first reported the story, the concept of “re-migration” – the forceful return of migrants, allegedly including those with German citizenship, to their countries of origin through mass deportations – dominated the discussions.
Apart from AfD members and other far-right figures, there have allegedly also been some CDU members in attendance and the latter party's leadership has announced they're planning to expel anyone who attended.

Welcome to Estalia, gentlemen.More than 100,000 protest across Germany over far-right AfD’s mass deportation meetings
That's just the number from the protests on Sunday, by the way.
There were about a 100,000 people protesting in Berlin alone yesterday. Honestly, those protests give me some hope for German society.
Merz praising the protests is pretty rich, though, considering the guy's been constantly normalising AfD talking points and members of his party keep rubbing shoulders with those fascists (including attending that secret meeting that set off the protests).

Welcome to Estalia, gentlemen. The far-right Bundestag aide and his rapping FSB case officer
Excerpt:
Alexei’s real name can now be disclosed as Ilya Vechtomov, born in 1987, an officer of the Fifth Service of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB), one of the successor agencies of the Soviet-era KGB. Although the FSB is largely responsible for domestic security and counterintelligence activities inside Russia, the Fifth Service, created in the 1990s, acts as its foreign intelligence arm. (On Jan. 29 The Insider disclosed that at least one Fifth Service FSB officer served as a handler to Tatjana Ždanoka, a Latvian MEP. Following the publication of that article, it was announced that Ždanoka is under internal investigation by the European Parliament.)

Welcome to Estalia, gentlemen.German minister says she clapped Israeli film-maker, not his Palestinian colleague, at Berlinale
Excerpt:
Footage of the awards ceremony, however, put further pressure on the minister of state: in a panoramic shot of the auditorium at the end of Adra and Abraham’s acceptance speech, Roth and Wegner are clearly visible clapping their hands.
In a statement on X on Monday, Roth’s office tried to clarify that her applause “was directed at the Jewish-Israeli journalist and filmmaker Yuval Abraham, who spoke out in favour of a political solution and a peaceful co-existence in the region”.

Welcome to Estalia, gentlemen.A german far-left group has claimed responsibility for an act of sabotage on a Tesla plant

If they’re motivated the evils of Capitalism then they really think that one anti-union manufacturing company is worse than an institution like Deutsche Bank?
Sounds less like an actual motivation of left-wing political thoughts and more like a motivation of spending to much time on Twitter so thinking Musk is the biggest evil out in the world.

ok boomerYep. Right up there with how we should prefer burning Russian fossil fuels to building nuclear plants.
The far left is stupid as hell. News at eleven.
Disgusted, but not surprisedAs a socialist I take offence to that statement.
What made the "Volcano Group" — "Volcano Group"? ffs — particularly stupid and callous was how they sabotaged the Tesla Gigafactory.
They didn't just fuck up the factory. Oh, no. They sabotaged the power grid supplying said factory. The same power grid that provided power to thousands of homes.
Disgusted, but not surprisedI'm not defending them, I simply do not want to be lumped together with them simply because I'm also far-left.
