** The film's take on Parasite was one of it's most acclaimed aspects, both for his menacing design and for him being a very sympathetic and likable TragicVillain.

* TheWoobie: Rudy Jones / Parasite. He's a kind war veteran barely able to support his family, and things get worse when he's exposed to a bio-weapon that forces him to kill people to survive. It very quickly turns him into a near-feral abomination with only a few traces of his humanity left - one of the film's most gut-wrenching scenes comes when he visits his apartment and is left horrified when his daughter screams at the sight of Rudy, not realizing who he is.

* MagnificentBastard: ComicBook/LexLuthor, as usual, is a brilliant yet amoral billionaire and scientist. Agreeing to help Superman defeat the Parasite, Lex arranges for a "[[CardboardPrison day pass]]" from prison and quickly deduces that the monster steals weaknesses in addition to the powers of those he drains. Hiring [[Characters/DCComicsLobo Lobo]] to attain the bounty hunter's Kryptonite ring, Lex and Superman allow Parasite to steal the latter's powers again to give him an exploitable weakness, only for Lex to betray Superman using a Kryptonite gun. Reasoning that both the monster and the Kryptonian pose powerful threats to the human race, Lex intends to turn both into his servants, making himself the most powerful being of all.

** This wouldn't be [[WesternAnimation/MyAdventuresWithSuperman the last Superman animation]] to have Parasite become a kaiju-like monstrosity.

He didn't know, he just happened to have a ring made out of a kryptonite.

** And for that matter, how did he know that Kryptonite would be of any use against him?

* SoOkayItsAverage: While there is nothing wrong with the movie, some feel it doesn't exactly break any new ground in regards to a Superman OriginStory. In general feeling it's like it was a pilot for a new animated series rather than a feature film. Even then some fans are pretty alright with seeing a more light-hearted depiction of Superman again.

* AlternateCharacterInterpretation: Lois says, "I'm winning a Pulitzer for my revelatory takedown of the alien who calls himself 'The Superman'." Does she say this in a NeverMyFault kind of way, as she is the one who coined the term "Superman"? Or did she purposely build up the "Flying Man" into "Superman" so she could get more shock value outing him as an alien later?

* FridgeLogic: How did Lobo find out there was a Kryptonian on Earth in the first place? It isn't as if Clark's powers should have marked him as one, since those powers were only possible under a yellow sun.
* NightmareFuel: Parasite is monstrous in this, almost reptilian in his movements, becoming an out-and-out kaiju by the end of the movie. And his (apparent) murder of the Martian Manhunter had J'onn screaming in agony as he was burned to death...
