* A variation in Film/Office where the character Lee Xiang aways introduces himself (in Chinese) Chinese to English-speaking suits) as "Lee Xiang: 'Lee' as in 'Creator/AngLee", 'Xiang' as in 'dream'!"'dream'!"This specifies not just the pronunciation, but also the context of what characters his name is being spelled with due to the large amount of homonyms throughout Chinese.

Added DiffLines:
* Series/Baantjer: De Cock always spells out his name when first introducing himself to somebody, to avoid that they will spell it as "kok" ("cook" in English), which is the more common spelling for this word in Dutch.

Added DiffLines:
* Szysznyk: A former Marine takes charge of an inner city youth center. When introducing himself, Nick will always add the spelling, which would baffle most non-Poles. "Name's Szysznyk. Spell it like it sounds: S-z-y-s-z-n-y-k, Sizz-nick."

Added DiffLines:

Added DiffLines:
* Series/StargateSG1: O'Neill has a RunningGag of introducing himself as "O'Neill, two L's in that." This is apparently to distinguish him from another O'Neil who has "no sense of humour at all," which is a reference to the version of the character that appears in the movie.

We all have a compulsion to do something. It could be a number of things, like cleaning our house even though it's barely dirty or stacking things up in a way that is to our liking. Though for most people they have a verbal compulsion and one of these compulsions is spelling their name.Yes, some individuals in media are shown to repeatedly spell their name. In most situations, it's completely random and unsolicited by the person for whom they are spelling it, which can get annoying for them, especially if the person in question has a long name that they spell slowly. In most forms of media, this is used for comedic effect in order to get the audience laughing.Anyone who does this may have a reason for spelling their name though. They might only spell their name to avoid confusion with another way of how to spell it (sort of a SubTrope for SpellingForEmphasis) or they spell it due to being asked to do so. Whatever the case, a character will spell their name if they deem it necessary. For most people, it’s the pronunciation that counts. For more on this, see the trope PronouncingMyNameForYou.Compare to VerbalTic, which is someone saying something due to a force of habit that isn’t necessarily spelling their name.

* Literature/AnneOfGreenGables series.** Anne often introduces herself as "Anne Shirley. Anne — spelled with an E", to ward off those who would misspell it.** In Anne of Avonlea one of Anne's students is Jake Donnell. Everyone pronounces his last name "Donnle", one syllable. Except for Jake's mother who insists on "Don-nelle", two syllables. She's clearly trying to boost her own ego by pretending that the family is higher class than an ordinary farming family. Nobody in Avonlea is willing to indulge this demand except for Anne, who feels obligated to follow a parent's wishes. Even so, she has to explain to Jake why she pronounces his last name like that.
