Shark Jumping is, stripped of everything else, an interesting concept for a web review series. Trying to find just what a long-running show's original sin was is a neat topic for discussion.
The thing is, interesting concepts don't always translate into good series, and sadly, this is another case. Problems in the show being reviewed are frequently brought up without context, prime examples being the Heroes and Dollhouse episodes. Any discussion about where a show jumped the shark without actually delving into why people making it chose to do so is a flawed discussion that misses crucial context.
This could be a forgivable flaw if Shark Jumping was entertaining in its own right. Unfortunately, it is not. While it's obvious Beth is trying her best, and she does get some good lines here and there, Tim saps the energy from every scene. His delivery is wooden, and he just doesn't seem all that comfortable in front of the camera. It certainly doesn't help that he keeps getting political jokes that have all the edge of a circle. Beth can be fun to watch, but Tim really seems to be struggling with the material.
Overall, this feels like a show that should be better than it is. There's a solid premise and a good female lead, but it's dragged down by incomplete research and a boring co-host.
WebVideo Disapointing, but not without merit.
