It has been nearly three years since the launch of Phantasy Star Online 2, and the game is still going strong. The move to a free-to-play model after using subscriptions in the original PSO and Phantasy Star Universe might have been worrisome, considering how often Free To Play became Pay To Win, but PSO2 handles the F2P model like a champ. Nothing in the cash shop gives players an unfair advantage over players who don't pay. Content flows in a never-ending stream, and all players are given access to this. Granted, players who use the cash shop do get to make money faster thanks to being able to sell items in the player shops, but anyone can purchase from them regardless of whether they pay. It's not a perfect game, but PSO2's F2P model should be the standard by which all F2P games subscribe.
VideoGame Free-to-play done well!
