With aliens, glossing over of biochemistry and linguistics and insta-grow tea, I'd give Junction Point a 3, at most, in Mohs Scale of Science Fiction Hardness.
However, it still makes quite a nice read - the composition is solid, giving a satisfying sense of discovery as everything unfolds, the characters are very likeable and writing imperfections don't detract from the generally friendly, optimistic feeling it produces. Even the sad bits have a ressuring quality about them. I recommend this one for a relaxing evening over tea.
