I wasn't really sure what to expect when I watched this. As anyone who regularly watches Disney Channel knows, some of their DCOMs have been...well...disasters. This was definitely not one of those. I was impressed by the all-around Character Development in this show, especially Tara's evolution from a Shrinking Violet who hides behind a microphone to a confident girl who brings out the best in everyone around her. The Be Yourself aesop that the story was trying to present is a tough one to execute without the film looking stupid, Narmy, or Anvilicious, but I thought this film managed it beautifully.
The only thing that really bugged me is the same thing that bugs me about most films set in Seattle: The fact that they used a Canadian city as a double for it. As a proud Seattleite, I happen to think this is a beautiful city with some great locations. Granted, filming rights here are a bit expensive, but it would be totally worth the cost.
Film Decidedly Better Than It Sounds
