FanficRecs Lina Inverse Has the Grand Line Blues
Lina and company's adventures have just entered a whole other level of 'strange'. If the review's title wasn't any indication, she and the others (plus Xellos) have been transported into a new world that seeks to try her patience at every turn. While showing that the group's usual skills won't be enough to get them out of trouble this time, the story also offers a picture of what they can bring to a world that is (mostly) unaccustomed to magic and the like.
In this story, Xellos has been powered down a bit by virtue of the One Piece world not being his own. While it is up to the reader to decide whether it is believable or not, he doesn't go out like a chump by any means; someone of his power is enough to give one of the story's antagonists a serious run for his money.
The grammar and punctuation is excellent for the most part, everyone is kept in character, and the interactions work out well. In my personal opinion, I'd rate this an 8.5 out of 10.
FanficRecs Worth Reading
Let me preface by saying I have read hundreds of fan fictions across around 50 fandoms. If the writer can maintain this quality, without being pressured to rush something out filled with forced plot, plot holes, etc., then, I am confident, this will be one of the top 10 I have ever read. Presently, I have the story rated at an 8.9/10.
This is already both the best Slayers fan fiction and the best One-Piece fan fiction I have come across. Most fanfics of either of these series, much less both of them combined, turn into horrible bouts of idiocy in attempts at forcing humor and failing miserably. I'm very pleased to say that has not happened here, though, I certainly see the potential for that to happen if the author listen to some of the comments I have read.
Pretty good job with pacing overall. There are not too many useless scenes. Most authors waste their own time, and the reader's time, with far too much fluff when they should stick to trimming out everything that does not directly advance the plot or develop characters. I am enjoying the characterization of those from both series.
I am very glad this is not following the story of either series. There are far too many fan fiction out there that simply repeat the original story thus making them mostly pointless reads.
The fight scenes are done quite well and I am enjoying them. There are only a few stories I can think of that portray fights better.
This story is definitely worth a read for those that are fans of both series. For those that do not like incomplete stories one can simply read until chapter 7 which is a good place to end if one is so inclined.
