There's a feeling of apprehension that comes when I start a new fic, along with a list of questions I must ask myself while reading. Does the author have a grasp of the English language above the level of a 6th grader? Does the dialogue seem realistic, is there too much of it, or not enough?
Thankfully Cosmic Warriors surpassed all of my expectations. The author seems to be keeping with a stable update schedule. The first chapter brings classic Sailor Moon fans back into the swing of things with the typical routine of Usagi Tsukino. After giving us a taste of the familiar the author sets off to do their own thing. Jadeite's plan for gathering energy is outlined and we're presented with a new breed of enemies, aptly named Experiments.
Along with Experiments, we're reminded of some classic Youma such as Morga, Kigaan, and Iguara. The familiar plot events have also been turned on their head, bearing only a passing resemblance to the original Sailor Moon's episode plots.
The author's writing style is entertaining and fresh, the fight scenes are exciting and fun, and the dialogue is so in character you'd think Naoko wrote it herself. Cosmic Warriors has gained moderate notoriety in its run so far and has accumulated positive reviews from a close knit group of followers. All after only being up for a little over two months, Cosmic Warriors really is the cool new fic. It's a must read for anyone wanting to relive the adventure of Usagi and her friends, all while exploring the dark themes of rape, abduction, and adult-style murder.
