I've read very little of the books, so I'm just going to talk about the comics.
If you want to see an unlikable Calvin Expy get screwed over by the other equally-unlikable characters (I'll be honest, Nate's right about his teacher being a Jerkass), this is the strip for you. Things where every character is a jerk and yet the only one who gets punished for it is the main character are always a pet peeve of mine. Calvin and Hobbes is another example (everyone's just as unlikable as Calvin, and yet Calvin always gets punished while everyone else gets off scott-free), but at least Calvin and Hobbes is funny.
