Charming(my first exposure to Peanuts)

Based on quick research I did after watching this movie (Wikipedia, watching a few first specials), Peanuts is comic/cartoons about little kids being kids in the purest and innocent meaning of the words. It's not a constant joke comedy or coming-of-age story or fighting bad guys. Just kids dealing with being kids.

This movie is Peanuts franchise encapsulated in 1,5 hour. Old fans will rejoice how faithful it remained and how CGI (almost) perfectly copies original looks, while new ones will get a perfect introduction to the series (although copying few scenes from 1st special is going slightly far). There a few touches to 'modernize' the story (pace is faster, kids seem less mean to Charlie) which not everyone will like, but I can't imagine it being a deal-breaker. As a newcomer to the franchise, I thought older specials could use those touch-ups.

Only real complain is a rather plan story. The movie is basically 5-6 short stories with thin arc about Charlie Brown trying to impress a girl he has a crush on. Small stories work fine, but the main narrative is somewhat... unimpressive? You're not here for fresh or gripping narrative is what I'm saying.

Your enjoyment will depend on how many premise of Peanuts sounds appealing to you. Personally I wouldn't compare to Disney's best, but it's unique and charming enough to watch at least once. Definitely best Blue Sky movie so far and I don't expect it will be topped soon.
