Although I often ramble on and on during reviews, on this one, the title says it all. Making some slight tweeks to the background and circumstances, we find ourselves in a world where Sakumo Hatake, Konoha's White Fang, adopts and raises Obito Uchiha as his own, alongside Kakashi. As one may expect, there are widespread consequences to the world as a whole, but what else can we expect?
The writing and composition of this fanfiction is decent at best, and characterisation is interesting in the sense that we get glimpses at trauma and heartbreak, but rather exclusively with Sakumo, dealing with the deaths of those around him and the dishonour that lead him to suicide, but the effect is retracted from the fact that the premise steers him clear of this in the most plot convenient way possible, making it less realistic and frankly boring.
However, there isn't much else, since we don't get any genuine growth or interesting developments. Even the interactions between characters only survive because of the satire and references to the original series, which are often humorous. It's focus around the complication of the adoption that it's centred around can actually get annoying, since it tends to be clichéd and predictable.
It takes a rather morose tone to things, and rightfully so, but the problem stands that there really isn't much to develop or work with in such situations, especially since a lot of the more established characters are being fundamentally rewritten or re-conceptualised. Again, this is a read to briefly contemplate a different way in which things could have gone down, but this isn't really a very interesting way for things to have developed, especially since most of the interactions and outcomes are so plainly cut that they fail to evoke much response from you.
I regret to inform it, but this is just for the effect of considering a "What if?", but it offers little else in the way of characters or plot. My verdict is that you can freely skim it, but not expect much of it, unless you are looking for satisfaction in possibility.
