Legitimately talented, misplaced at times.

I have a respect for Doug Walker that goes really deep. I've been watching his content since I was (relatively) young, and when I got to meet him and Malcom in-person at C2-E2 a month or two back, I was ecstatic, and overall, they struck me as really genuine people.

Yet, there's something about his new style that gets me less into NC nowadays. Doug's a good writer, and a decent actor, emphasis on "decent". As of, what, 2012-ish, he's been employing more skit-based comedy for his reviews, which, in-and-of-itself, isn't too bad. Maybe he went through a crisis, wants to try something new, can't fault him. But at the same time, I think I would have just preferred the minimalist approach? Not to diss Doug, Tamara, or Malcolm's talents, but being frank, I don't really come to NC for Hyper Fangirl or Satan. I'm there for the review, and whether it's deadpan or over-the-top, I can enjoy both, just let the well-written commentary take priority over shoehorning in half a video's worth of exposition as to WHY Critic's reviewing the movie. I can enjoy the sketches, just in smaller doses than now.

I\'m the opposite, I\'ve always been there for the skit/character stuff, and there\'s a lot of the Hyper arc that I can relate to. Some skits are mean or overboard (like dick talking in Sailor Moon) but 2007/2008-style reviews just make me glaze over.

Fair enough. I usually turn on NC during gaming sessions and just listen (as opposed to sitting down and watching) while I play, so I can understand where you\'re coming from in regards to his older videos.

This \"crisis\" you mention is actually a combination of Critic\'s breakdown, the \"To Boldly Flee\" anniversary special, the agonizing overwork from the specials in general, the shifting tides of the internet critic as they deal with copyright infringements, the Critic\'s \"death\", and his revival 3.5 months later with the new rules that he could review whatever he wants (it doesn\'t have to be anything old, or out of theaters by that time!). All happened in and around 2012. Revival!Critic appears to be much less friendly toward his fans and a ton more biting and overblown in his joke delivery and content. He\'s basically the previous Critic without any other humanized mental problems to drive him toward another suicide guaranteeing that he can continue the show indefinitely.

^ I'd say revival Critic has plenty of issues. Take Disney Afternoon review for example, or how he keeps reminding Hyper that she kidnapped him, or the whole of Pop Quiz Hotshot that ties in with show continuity. And that's just a few examples I can think of top off my head, also I still relate with a lot of his said issues, but that's just me.
