I really wanted to take the hand's off approach when it came to the T Vtropes side of things. It was made by people who dug the story, so I super appreciate its very existence. I browse it every few chapters to see what people pick out as what, and it makes me grin. However, this is the first time I discovered there is an actual review to the story here.
I respond to the reviews to my story when it goes up, so by god I'll respond to this one as well! One of my rare treks into this world of T Vtropes.
I mainly wanna remark that I don't want to portray any of the characters in the story as "Dracos" or "Ron", nor do I wanna portray them as Black and White, because we're all people. The closest to an overtly evil character I think I've portrayed is Broly, but even Broly has reasons for his actions. He's raised on Babidi's ship, a monster among monsters, and was 'killed' as a child by a ruthless beast (ie: Cooler).
Every character is a complex organism. Very people roam into the world thinking "What nefarious plot will I get away with today?" and sadly, a lot of writers, fanfiction and otherwise, see the world in this way. A lot of fans see it in this way too. There are a lot of characters I'm not a huge fan of, I won't say who, but I'll say that you'd be surprised, because I genuinely try to give the most balanced approach I can.
Also, the tear jerkers are there because honestly, what is life without tragedy? Tragedy is every bit apart of life as triumph. Bad things happen to good people, and they don't always get a happy ending. In fact, it was Robert Altman who said, paraphrased, "What is a happy ending? How can we have that? We can have a happy stopping point, but it's hard to have a happy ending."
Why is to hard to have a happy ending?
Because all roads in this universe, for solar systems or for sons and daughters, lead inevitably to death. The only true ending for a character arc can be found there. That is when the story is finished. And what's more, how do people face their deaths, and how do those around them face the tragedy?
If I seem depressing or deep, I hope not. I'm just trying to explain what inspires my approach to the story. :)
Anyway, I'm super glad you've enjoyed the story. I hope you continue reading and enjoying it. I made this account specifically just to respond to you.
Have a great day!

Loving it so far (21 of 52 chapters in)
I actually wanted to make a "Tear Jerker" page for this fic, but since I've forgotten how add subpages, I'll leave a review instead. This is probably more efficient anyways, since my entry on the tear jerker page would have basically been, "ALL OF IT!" Not only is the very premise of the story a tearjerker in itself, but thus far I haven't read a single chapter in which there wasn't SOMETHING that ripped my heart out and stomped all over it. Fair warning, if you haven't already guessed, this story runs on drama like a car runs on gasoline. If you are a fan of angst like I am, that's nothing but a positive. If you aren't, you should maybe be a bit more skeptical getting into it.
As someone else has mentioned, one thing that this fic does a very well is avoid the black and white morality so prevalent in fanfiction. At this point there have been no "Dracos in Leather Pants" or "Ron the death eaters" as far as I can tell. Rather, the author allows sympathetic characters to preform evil acts—with the text leaving little room to doubt that the action was evil—yet manages to keep the character sympathetic all the same.
I've only read to chapter 21 (of 52 total chapters) but so far it has also done a very good job at keeping me invested. (I read all 21 of chapters in one evening). I count this as an accomplishment, because many fanfictions of similar length tend to start spinning their wheels around the midway point—something that hasn't happened so far in this particular story.
In spite of my usual archive panic with longer fanfics, I definitely intend to read more of this story, and I would encourage anyone who's curious to give it a shot.
