Challenging But Rewarding: Seven Hours Well Spent

Forbidden Arms in an incredible game. Visually immersive with an interesting plot and solid fighting mechanics, it is certainly a gem in the world of free online games, although the blood, violence, and demonic enemies and weapons (albeit portrayed negatively) signify that the game is definitely not for children.

Also, don't let the beginning get to you. You will die, but then you will go to the upgrades screen, you will buy, and then not die. The PC's Glass Cannon status is a pain in the butt at first, but down the road there are healing abilities and a Super Mode which grants invincibility.

And speaking of upgrades, there are 40 upgrades to choose from, and 8 power-ups for you take on missions, whose effects range from every attack getting a 5% chance to instantly kill a non-boss enemy, to doubling the amount of soul points (used to buy upgrades) you get. In any case, there are a lot of tactical options, although it's a shame all you have to do to win is run towards globs of enemies while pressing the attack button fanatically and occasionally firing off a Kamehame Hadoken.

The controls sometimes got stuck, but that may be a problem with my keyboard or computer and not the game, so I won't touch that.

The boss battles are interesting, but only the first two. The first boss will catch you when you're weak with little upgrading done, but some grinding and a learning the game known as "dodge the gigantic weapon or die" will solve that. The second boss is super-annoying, in that it's health bar will refill a couple of times before being reduced for good, but was pretty cool.

The last boss battle is a bit disappointing, though. The awesome weapon the boss uses is quickly taken out of the picture, leaving you to fight a bunch of identical copies of the boss. All copies can harm you, but there's only one "true" copy that you can attack to reduce the boss's health. Happy hunting.

And I literally mean hunting; by the time I faced the last boss I was fully upgraded, meaning Curb Stomp Cushion was the best case scenario for my enemy. And no, I wasn't playing easy. I was on the hardest difficulty level. The triple bummer was that the ending cutscene was clearly going for an Evil Is Sexy, but it just kind of falls flat on its face, dead. But man, was there a BADASS Sequel Hook after that!
