Damn yes.

Metisket's rec'd on the pages for multiple works, so this is for all the fandoms she writes for.

If fanfiction as a whole tends to drift towards Draco in Leather Pants, metisket tends to show the sides of characters in the opposite direction. Everyone she writes is slightly more bombastic, slightly more unhinged, slightly more intense than expected.

It's. Brilliant?

The beautiful art to this approach is that this author never works with anything that isn't already there in the characters' motivations. She just focuses in on the way characters already want to take over the world, or don't care about getting hurt, or miss the point of a social norm. It's all very clever, very nicely written, and rings with the truth of the pieces she's writing for. She likes to play with outsider points of view, so she can showcase just how unusual our favorite characters are. But when she gets inside their heads, it all makes perfect sense, either understandable or alarmingly like something you would do in the same situation. (She's at her best, I feel, when writing insider and outsider points of view of the same things, when she always works up a marvelous and sensible compare/contrast.)

A lot of metisket's work feels like every line is a particularly insightful gem I should be recording. Her fic hits a facet of the works she writes for you don't see anywhere else, simultaneously cheery and quietly horrifying. She's written the only Avengers fic that's made me believe in Bruce's line about always being angry as anything other than quotable but ultimately meaningless shock fodder. She showcases why people find protagonists like Ed and Yoshimori and Stiles and Allen, and Hikaru, and Tsuna, alarming. It's refreshing, and it would still be an interesting interpretation if it weren't. Her take on side characters is just as great.

She mostly writes for manga fandoms, which generally have a dearth of English fanfic (and by extension, quality English fanfic).

I enjoy reading her works again and again, part palette cleanser, part intricate mental puzzle box. Metisket's great, basically.
