Pulled this, as it's ready been added twice.

Spiritual Adaptation requires the works to be in different mediums. As it says on both the trope page:

While a Spiritual Successor is for any plot that is reused without the same setting/characters, a Spiritual Adaptation is when the plot is used in a different medium.

And the laconic:

A work is similar enough to an earlier work in a different medium to be an unofficial Spiritual Successor.
