Under "Shocking Moments", mention how, for Wave 6, it was speculated that Piranha Plant Pipeline from Mario Kart Tour was thought to be in the final wave, only for fans to be surprised when Rosalina's Ice World from Mario Kart 7 got in instead.

Pulled this:

  • Breather Level:
    • Mario Kart 8's Rainbow Road is this, as it is much simpler designed and obstacle light than to be expected of Rainbow Road, being more of a vanilla driving challenge with many tight and twisting turns one after another (though these quickly become much harder on higher speeds). It certainly qualifies as a Breather Level compared to more bombastic anti-gravity tracks like Electrodome, or Wii's and 7's Rainbow Roads with their grand set-pieces.
    • Mario Kart 64's Rainbow Road in Mario Kart 8 has a lot of the guardrails removed, making it far harder, but at the same time, you only have to go around the lengthy track once, making it shorter than the 64 original.
    • Super Mario Kart's Rainbow Road in Mario Kart 8 has the track widened and there are no guardrails with Star Thwomps as the only course hazard. SNES Rainbow Road is the second course of the Triforce Cup, but it's another Rainbow Road that's on the easy side since the only challenge comes from the opposing racers.

Because I'm fairly positive Breather Level has to be a Breather Level compared to other levels in the same game. I know Rainbow Road is usually the hardest level in a Mario Kart, but the context here isn't "this level is easier than the other levels in the game" but "this level is easier than a level in an earlier game."

Maybe they're examples, but the context should talk about the levels' difficulty compared to other stages in the game, not stages in other games.

Yeah honestly, even though I was the one who tried to expand Wii U Rainbow Road's paragraph to MAKE it qualify... none of the Rainbow Roads in MK 8 really qualify to the trope's intention. They're all pretty difficult. I can understand the sentiment of Rainbow Road feeling calmer after a course as hazard heavy as Wii U Bowser's Castle but it's not a cakewalk or that much easier at all. I don't even think Mario Kart is the kind of franchise that ever has Breather Levels particularly. Even the tracks without hazards have items and the other racers making the experience pretty intense.
