Idk if it's up here, but there should be a segment for Anthromorphic Personification to describe the Console Wars strips.

Ctrl+Alt+Del WAS a Two Gamers on a Couch webcomic...

It ended.

Can anybody who can edit this article change that, please?

We should still note that the comic "ended". Just as we do when other works decide to reboot.

The comic seems to be switching to the 4 gamers, so it could still be considered a variation of this type of comic. (The previous cast consisted of 3, and that couch hasn't been shown for a long time now.)

The reboot has now happened, retooling Ethan and Lucas as gaming-themed superheroes.

New additions to consider following the completion of the main storyline:

  • Bad Future: In an alternate timeline Zeke conquers the world
  • Creator Backlash: Tim eventually grew to dislike the convoluted and overly-defined nature of the main storyline as it restricted him. Eventually he decided to end Ctrl Alt Del v1.0 by killing Ethan and reverting the comic to its original focus on gamer and pop culture.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Ethan deactivates the time machine to save both timelines, knowing he will be killed when the vortex closes.
  • Karma Houdini
    • Karmic Twist Ending: Ethan's years of escaping consequences for his actions end when a time machine he created is used to show him a Bad Future resulting from his creation of Zeke. When the same time machine overloads, Ethan is forced to commit a Heroic Sacrifice.

Also an update to Cerebus Syndrome... and honestly a lot of things should be updated. The whole "got a reboot" thing deserves a mention. I'm going to make a post in Ask The Tropers to see if we can get a mod.

More tropes

Also updates to

  • Art Evolution: A slow one, but after stagnating for quite some time, the comic has gotten much more dynamic, moving away from its infamous Cut and Paste Comic status.
  • Cut and Paste Comic: To a fairly infamous degree, especially during a con demonstration of how he works his comics, it's shown that he keeps a file full of different eyes and mouths to copy and paste from, along with differently shaded body parts. Eventually Buckley has moved away from it, with much more dynamic angles and poses.
  • Two Gamers on a Couch: Lampshaded in the very first comic, even. They eventually get armchairs, but whatever. Following the revamp, now four players on the couch.

Could we please remove the "quote" from Ryan Sohmer regarding the loss of "huge" amounts of money. I can't find any evidence on the internet that he ever actually said that and, while I know this isn't wikipedia, it doesn't seem appropriate to quote him on something that we can't give a citation for beyond hearsay.

In addition, the chef was seen only two/three months ago. Considering the amount of strips in a month, that probably doesn't count as Brother Chuck. They should both probably be moved to 'Demoted to Extra'

Given the current storyline, I think Scott and Ted have gotten some serious re-promotion. The page still doesn't reflect this.

Not really a retcon, though. A retcon is a new strip retroactively changing the story established by a previous strip, not redoing a strip because it was racist.

Several broken links exist due to the website switching from one URL format to another. Here are the paragraphs and examples with fixed links:

Ctrl+Alt+Del is a Two Gamers on a Couch Webcomic, following the adventures of two guys, a girl, and a robot who alternate between sitting around playing video games and getting up to wacky hijinks.

Guys. All links are broken. Buckley switched from http://www.cad-comic.com/cad/?d=####### to http://www.cad-comic.com/cad/#######. Please attract mods' attention so they would unlock the page for 10 minutes. Fixing broken links is more important than preventing potential flamewar.

Regarding the use of the quote "Ryan Sohmer: "We produced Ctrl+Alt+Del season one. Never again. Lost HUGE amounts of money."".... I'm sorry to go all wikipedia on somebody's ass but that quote REALLY needs a citation. I was personally curious to see where that quote comes from and so far I've only been able to find dubious references to it on encyclopediadramatica.

Should there be a sub-section for the tropes unqiue to the "Analog & D-Pad" comics, or should they be featured with the main comic tropes?

For example, Ethan essentially becomes more Mary Sue-ish, since he becomes a video game based Batman-expy with the ability to "Respawn" whenever he dies, only with a toned down version of his personality from the main comic. He's also stated to be a "gaming greatness", and saves the day in both stories Buckley actually published.

For clarification of the other characters, Scott becomes Alfred, Lilah hates video games & is essentially Lois Lane, and Zeke doesn't even appear. Lucas on the other hand, serves the exact same role as he does in the main comic, being the more competent of the two but playing second fiddle to Ethan.

M3 Since: Oct, 2010
Oct 9th 2010 at 8:46:34 AM •••

Under Genius Ditz, I would argue a counterpoint to that regarding zeke. Zeke's buildup was planned out (granted with red crayon on a chinese diner menu ((if I remember correctly)) but I digress), but Ethan claimed twice that he's not responsible at all for the soul of the robot or the fact that it was able to operate at all. To qualify for genius ditz, wouldn't the "soul" of zeke explicitly define Ethan to be a master of robotics?

Under Anti-Sue, the bit about Ethan being no more likely to be right than other religious figures who attack him over Winter-een-mas, the Dude, Not Funny! pothole needs to be removed because that's not an example of that trope.

This is still a signature.

Everyone agrees Ctrl Alt Del: The Animated Series is So Bad Its Horrible, I think it should be posted here. If you want evidence for its badness, watch Ctrl Alt Del: Annotated, as the original has no redeeming value whatsoever.

  • So Bad Its Horrible Ctrl Alt Del: The Animated Series is regarded by many as one of the worst animated adaptations of all time, and easily the worst of the 2000's - and that's saying something for being adapted from a webcomic that is already so unpopular that even its fans can no longer defend it. Noted for its horrid dialogue, voice acting so bad it makes Resident Evil sound like the English Dub of Wolfs Rain, shoddy animation, and a plot that continues the widely despised saga of Tim Buckley's "war" against Jack Thompson, even though the last time he did it, he probably got a lot of people to support the guy than hate him, seeing as how Buckley made a strip about Thompson getting raped as a child. The series itself was so unpopular, it almost put the creators, Blind Ferret Entertainment, out of business, and they have since then gone on record as saying they'll never produce another season. It's so hated, there's an internet series dedicated solely to mocking it.
    • Ho boy, the animation. Seeing as the characters in the comic are always drawn in 3/4 profile, and animation is supposed to convey some sort of depth, it's some of the most painfully awkward animation that anyone has ever made. The characters move like epilepsy patients due to the fact that they have no profiles for their front or back, only 3/4. The spinal movement is also terrible, it's like the characters have metal rods shoved up their asses. The anatomical problems of CAD look about 1000 times worse in animated form.
    • A couple of Youtubers did the math. The end credits and the opening theme both last one minute, and the Ident for the production company at the beginning lasts about half a minute. Most of the episodes last about five minutes; therefore, half of the running time of each episode is spent on Stock Footage. Whoever paid for these episodes was soundly ripped-off.
      • Fortunately, the few souls unfortunate enough to have purchased CAD: The Animated Series immediately put it on the internet filled with text annotations mocking the series. The short length of the show made it even easier to do, as your average CAD Animated episode was only 5 minutes, making it easy to get on Youtube.
    • What really pissed people off was that Tim Buckley wanted people to pay a lot of money for this garbage, and he wanted a Network TV deal from this show. Seeing as how your average Newgrounds vid has better quality than CAD: The Animated Series, everyone went after Tim Buckley for this.

Huh. What happened to the rest of the discussion?

Anyway, thought this should be added as a trope:

  • Character Development: An interesting case of the readers deciding this. In the Ethan McManus: Space Archaeologist comics, Buckley ends each with a reader poll to decide Ethan's next course of action, with the choices generally divided between rash and prudent. In the first set of these strips, the readers consistently chose very rash decisions, with the first set ending with Ethan chopped up into chunky salsa before being resurrected as a clone. In later editions, however, the readers have had Ethan pick the more prudent choice more often, so it looks like the character has learned from past mistakes.
