Err, I don't know how to say it right, but... Here goes nothing: Has anyone else thought that many main characters kinda remind the cast from Neon Genesis Evangelion? To provide examples: Estelle/Asuka Joshua/Shinji Schera/Misato Kloe/Rei Olivier/Kaworu The Villain/Gendo Ikari. I do realize that viewed in that light, most of them are subversions or outright aversions of the characters they are supposedly based upon, and I am more than okay with that ( Have you seen Evangelion? Well, you probably shouldn't if you feel like you could develop a drinking problem ) It's just... the similarities between them are curious, that's all, and I wanted to consult the TV Tropes denizens before adding a trope like "Expy" or something other that could easily start a flame war of epic proportions. So I wanna discuss it. Anyone game?
Was wondering if it would be accurate to assess the series as a Spiritual Successor to Grandia? I've only played a few hours of the first one, but immediate similarities to various games in the series jumped out at me- the 2 sprites on rotatable 3D backgrounds where enemies are visible on the field, the turn-based combat system with a Visual Initiative Queue and subvert and a rendered battlefield you have to navigate to fight, the magitek setting, the way every NPC says something different after every story event, the quartz system has some similarities to mana eggs and more.
Always expect the worst and you can only be pleasantly surprised.
