There's no mention of where this came from. The Compendium, Writer's Guide, the in-game timeline and Scannex, there's no mention anywhere of a Tyris Larkin.

I tried looking to see if maybe there was some AMA or blog post by a Dynamix alumni saying this, but all I found a few hits of people in other forums referencing this article when talking about Tyris.

Could this be another case of Nuclear Ghandi?

Since the player community had a fairly tight bond with the developers, given that a number of squads got made canon upon the game's release, I thought it would be fitting to list them as part of the Promoted Fan Boy trope.

Of the squads I remember, I only recall NTDF, RA, BDU, WP, 1CAV, SK, SPS, and SoB getting canonized this way. I looked around online for a list of known player squads to see if I missed anyone; I saw there was a Platinum Guard squad, but I'm not sure if they were a squad formed after the game launched because of the in-game Cybrid group, or if they were a squad from the beta test that the devs turned into Prometheus' elite guard.

Does anyone know?
