The game mainly uses western terminology for the setting and characters, enough that the developers themselves removed all instances of "Eggman" from the page.

Yeah, I guess I saw Overbound himself give the hint but wrote manual for some reason. It isn't there in the readme and I can't recall if there's an in-game manual.

I also have no idea who this Dr. Eggman fellow is you speak of. Is he a relation of Dr. Robotnik?
Where does this thing about this game being based on the Western canon comes from? It's just speculation based on the fact that Galacnik's face looks like AOSTH Robotnik, or the creators stated it? Because as far as I'm aware, it has elements from all kinds of Sonic continuities. Regular Robotnik uses his classic Japanese design, Knuckles has his hat from the OVA, and characters from Sonic the Comic make appearances.
