I'm not sure I'd even bother. The changes were to mitigate a character with a nazi-esque armband and a bunch of art and animation frames with a sexualized sixteen year old. A lot of screenshots went around showing the steam page being review bombed by people with barely any hours in the game, which points to it being mostly reactionary. And the game is still receiving new content and coverage regardless.
Character Specific Page cleanupI've played the beta of the mobile version—shall I start adding tropes I've found pertaining to the mobile version? Or should I wait for the full public release?
In The Symbiote entry, a troper says Synthetic Parasites do not display intelligence. Yet Avery, Peacock's remote parasite shows his own personality and can act independently from her. While Peacock's powers warp reality to give some sort of agency to her imaginary friends, Avery was monitoring the Skullgirl's movement even while she was asleep
Should we change it then?
The opinion above may change without notice. By answering it you agree with those terms. Hide / Show RepliesHmm... yes. I would change it to say that synthetic parasites have so far not shown any advanced intelligence other than Avery... Something to that effect, saying how Avery is so far the only one.
On the character sheets (at least the playable characters), each character has a caption under their picture (kind of like Boss Subtitles for them). Did we write those? They're not on the official website and the game's wiki has a completely different set of descriptors.
Hide / Show RepliesCheck the "Movie" posters in the game's art. That's where the captions come from.
Oh, right. I don't actually have the game, so I was resorting to other material. So do the DLC characters not have one?
Edited by 31.185.188.69Only the playable characters do. Everyone after Eliza is a major story NPC or not implemented as a playable character yet, like Beowulf and Robo-Fortune.
Edited by 97.91.67.16Ok. Those subtitles hadn't been added at the time of this topic being started.
errmm, they've always been there. You mean since this discussion has started? Yeah they were there when I was editing the page months ago.
I think that the latest patch for Skullgirls does quite a few things that could go under Obvious Rule Change, such as minor nerfs to how long combos can be (Filia only having one air dash per combo) and the Stun/Exaggeration system, both meant to limit Touch of Death combos that don't trigger IPS. Anyone else agree?
100% more pronounceable then the leading brand! Not sure where you heard that, but it's false. Umbrella was confirmed for being one of the first 2 DLC characters long ago and that hasn't changed.
Just mentioning that it HAS changed. :D
My Deviant Art account. There might be art there. Sometimes.I's come to my attention that Parasoul's story line passes the Bechdel Test; should we put this into the Trivia section?
Wasn't "Dark Deco" first coined by the makers of Batman: The Animated Series?
I'm quite confident in my shitposting you know Hide / Show RepliesYes, it was. That's probably an intentional nod, seeing as Batman: The Animated Series was a big source of inspiration for Skullgirls.
Shoudl we add that as a note on the page then?
I'm quite confident in my shitposting you know- Massive spoilers for Cerebella's story*
The main page mentions that, in Cerebella's story, Ms. Fortune dies/is killed. Isn't she, like, immortal though? How does that work?
- end spoiler*
For future reference, use the spoiler tags. Cerebella is so far the only character the Skull Heart knows who is pure of heart. By killing Nadia Fortune (if not doing so in cold blood), she is commiting her first sin/act of evil.
Ms. Fortune dies because Cerebella crushed her body until the only thing left of her was the Life Gem, therefore removing her immortality.
Cerebella literally crushed her into a new Life Gem, like coal into a diamond. For a bit of Fridge Horror, Ms. Fortune may have still been conscious inside rock of compressed cat gore. Being immortal and all.
It says not to list Ms. Fortune as an exception for Bloodless Carnage since it mentions it on her character sheet, but what about Painwheel?
Isn't Peacocks ending a rather happy one, despite everything? I mean, she had to kill her best friend, but it was to save her from the Skull Heart and she ended up saying goodbye to Marie one last time. Not to mention how she then annihilated the whole Medici Mafia with a grin and some well deserved punishment. I wouldn't call it a Downer Ending, more of a Bittersweet Ending.
Edited by Skulljoker There aren't any tropers. Only one person with a freakishly large amount of free time and a passion for everything.Spiritual Successor: According to some people in the fighting game community, Skullgirls is aspiring to become this to Arcana Heart.
Is that statement not clear? I added it based on the tourney streams and comments I watch on Eventhubs.com and Shoryuken.com (which may be two of the strongest websites when it comes to the fighting game community, but that's just me); yet somehow a smart guy comes here and changes it to Marvel vs Capcom 2, citing no reason at all while doing the change.
I'm giving my reasons to compare it to AH instead of MvC2:
- 1. The fighting mechanics. It's a heavy rushdown game with plenty of launcher attacks and combo opportunities, ground-based as well as in air, like Guilty Gear (or any Aksys game for that matter), unlike MvC2 where zoning plays an important role in the game plan.
- 2. Combo build pacing. Even the easiest Low-Medium-High attack in MvC2 can be easily lost if you're not fast enough. Skullgirls on the other hand, delivers a time gap where the player can make his/her inputs and not losing momentum, similar to what happens in every Arc System Works fighting game.
- 3. All female casting. Pretty evident I think. Come on, the ONLY reason Skullgirls is closer to Arcana Heart than it is to Guilty Gear is because there's only female characters in both games. Let's make a recap of the characters appearing in MvC2: Cammy, Chunli, Spiral, Tron, Roll, Storm, Psylocke, Akuma- OH CRAP, the "all female casting" rule is dead and gone. So, there.
- Sidenote: Sure, Skullgirls has 3 on 3 matches, BUT IT ISN'T MANDATORY. It doesn't happen everytime you fight, and the game sure doesn't force you to just choose three characters (no more, no less) when you arrive to the character selection screen.
So, my request: can we, SG's page editors reach an agreement on this?
Edited by xanderglz Hide / Show RepliesDid you not read the edit history? Also, I read the Shoryuken forums, which is a much better place to get information than the comments section on the front page of SRK, and the makers of the game post there. I said MikeZ said he took a lot of influences from MVC2 and put them in Skullgirls. (though that's irrelevant now) Also, zoning is a viable option, and Peacock's playstyle is revolved around zoning. And about combos, you can make long combos, but it's impractical, as damage scaling makes damage output minimal, and you'll end up giving your opponent more meter, making resets more viable, and MikeZ thinks that this game will be like MVC2 in the reset heavy department. Oh and the meter thing applies to MVC2 too. And the all female casting isn't gonna be a permanent thing. Male characters are planned for the game you know. Lastly, that entry is poorly worded, and uses weasel words, "According to some people." Examples Are Not Arguable, whether subjective or not.
Also, calm down. It's just an example. Does it really matter if it's on the page or not? Is this really adversely affecting your life?
You got some dirt on you. Here's some more! You know what? I actually didn't, although I looked for them. in the YMMV tab I didn't see any reason where those edits weren't made. And all the edit history available in the main page is how the self-redirect was fixed:
- [redirect: VideoGame/{{Skullgirls}}]
The other points you're citing are something that must be taken into account seriously, so discussing them wouldn't help by now. What you addressed as "irrelevant" seems like the bottom line for me: there's a REASON for doing that, there's Word of God involved; this isn't about who is right. If this game is an example of something, I don't see why not putting it. And then there's the ridiculous Modus Operandi this website uses since some time ago: Nazi mods removing things they "don't think they belong to" just because. God forbid it's something subjective, because there's a 99% chance they'll remove it, because apparently for Fast Eddie & co. "subjectivity is a bad thing that damages tvtropes".
I'm getting off track here. What I want to say is: change it all you want, and if you give a good reason for making it, then be my guest. This is what I said in the last line of my comment (I bet you already read it so I won't repeat it). Because hey, that's what this page is about, right?
Is the game Skullgirls or Skull Girls? because it's two words on the title but one word in the description.
Hide / Show RepliesWhoa, someone remove that ridiculous-ass Spoiler Wall on the main page. I have yet to play the game so I don't want to see any spoilers. Jesus christ that thing is HUGE.
Hide / Show RepliesCan Executive Meddling be used consider the game got delay due to Microsoft and/or Sony wanting the game to come out the same day on both their video game platforms?
Edited by ViperAcidZXJust out of curiosity, how is there so much info on this game if it's not out yet?
Hide / Show RepliesAlex Ahad has been designing the characters and story for quite a while now. This, for instance, was posted in 2006.
Also, the developers (particularly Mike Z and Peter Bartholow) frequently visit forums.
True, still it a matter of what is confirmed or not. Like in the case of DLC... so far they have said that DLC characters are coming but whom those characters are is something that I have yet to see them confirm on (unless there is something at Dustloop.com or SRK that I have yet to see that confirms this).
Thanks for making a character sheet. I would've done it sooner but I didn't know how to create one.
So, um why did this page turn into a Circular Redirect? I was gonna edit it back, but I wanted to see if there was a reason for it first.
Hide / Show RepliesAll the works are now being moved to their respective namespaces. Check the forum, under Special Efforts, the thread Wick namespace moving.
I’ve heard of the update controversy, which caused this game’s ratings to drop.
Should it be “Overshadowed by Controversy” or “They Changed It, Now It Sucks!” in the YMMV section.
