What do you think about making a Recap page that lists tropes specific to the Book plots/Forging Bonds/Tempest Trial dialogues? I feel like it would help organise things.

I've started making a draft here at Sandbox.Recap Fire Emblem Heroes, just generally copying over existing tropes. Gonna ping the frequent editors and ask if there's any suggestions or if I've messed up somewhere. I'd like to publish the changes once I finish copying over all the Forging Bonds and Paralogue stuff (which is gonna take... a little bit of time, if only because there's a lot of entry names I need to list)

Off the top of my head, pinging ~Tropers/keyblade333, ~Falconpunch 100, and ~Tropers/jayscribble.

Edit: Yikes I have no idea how to use the ping function, DM-ing it is!

My advice on some changes:

  • Put all the Books on separate pages, as well as any connecting Xenologues in that page as well (generally any that have been released after that Book that ended but before the start of the next Book).
  • Put the unmarked spoilers warning on the top of the main page, as well as in the Book pages.
  • Probably group all Paralogues together by what events they're celebrating in separate folders, where for example Spring/Easter in one folder, Summer in another, paralogues that might have been main story banners such as Paralogue 1, 2, 3, 5, and 7 in another one, and one-shots events like the Adrift, bathing or Plegian events in one until there is another one of their kind is released later on.
  • Forging Bonds I would probably group together in separate folders by games, probably by chronological release of the games, and the Brave events on a separate folder as well.
  • Add the Tempest Trials(+) section if you can, and put any Tempest Trials series in it own page, starting with the "Ice & Flame" series, and put the unmarked spoilers warning on top of those pages as well.

Noted, thank you! I'll put a note to split off the pages once it leaves the Sandbox. I was wondering on how to organise all those Paralogues, ordering them according to theme sounds like a good idea since a lot of them will overlap in tropes. Organising Forging Bonds by games is definitely a good idea too!

For Tempest Trials, what if I put all the Trials together, with a separate folder for stuff specific to the Fire & Ice story? Although there certainly is some plot in the earlier trials, even in ones that don't involve Masked Marth or the OCs, the Trials stories are incredibly short and mostly share traits.

The Tempest Trials series can be lengthy if you're recapping the story as well, and there are some entries in the Heroes YMMV that can be moved to those separate pages' YMMV to prevent some clutter there as well, but it's up to you how you do things.

Should we start cutting down on the Power Creep entry, at least for specific heroes, since it's evident that "Gen X+1" is going to be statistically stronger than "Gen X", and the entry is going to get longer the more heroes are released later on.

Here's my proposal:

  • The increase of BST on many units released later in the game's life did not do wonders for some heroes, especially "Gen 1" heroes, but some heroes released earlier do standout from the competition, due to access to either exclusive skills or weapons that later heroes do not have.
    • Some heroes are just straight up weaker than later ones released, such as Athena and Clarisse, who are overshadowed by later released heroes such as Regular Mia, Brave Celica, and Legendary Roy for Athena, and Fallen Takumi, Legendary Alm, and Norne for Clarisse, and some at the same time are easier to summon than others on top of being statistically stronger, such as Kliff being stronger and more available to the seasonal-only Spring Lucina.
    • Some are Downplayed examples, as while they have access to stronger stats, they do not have access to IVs or exclusive weapons, such as Summer Ylgr being statistically stronger than Raven, but he still has access to his exclusive weapon Basilikos and its refines over Ylgr, as well as IVs over her.
    • Other Downplayed examples are heroes who are stronger in their niche, but have at least one or two stats lower than their competition, such as Conrad being a better Res tank Lance Cavalier than Regular Berkut, Matilda, and Jagen, but misses a few HP and Atk on Regular Berkut, a few points of Spd for Jagen, and a lot of Spd for Matilda, which are sometimes vital for surviving against certain enemies, and the latter two have access to IVs over Conrad.
    • There are Zigzagged examples, however, as some earlier heroes still have a niche due to their exclusive weapons even after all the heroes released later don't have access to, such as Jeorge and Masked Marth, as while Jeorge is statistically weaker than heroes such as Legendary Alm, Dancing Nephenee, and Norne, and in the case of Nephenee, access to Dance over him, he still has access to Parthia and its refines, and while Masked Marth is weaker than Astram statistically and skill inheritance wise, they still have access to Falchion, its refines, and refine evolution into the Sealed Falchion.
    • Even Dancers, who normally have less stats than their non-dancer Gen equivalents, are a Zigzagged example, as they still have access to Dance/Sing compared to later released heroes, and as such still stand out as support characters instead, such as Performing Arts Inigo being weaker than Thrasir, but he still have access to dance, and therefore can use the Dance-buffing skills.

I think there can be a general entry that says something like "As with any game with shifting metas, new units gradually outpace many old ones. There are some specific examples of this that stand out:"

Or something to that effect. For example, Conrad being Power Creep for almost all the Blue Cavaliers is notable, but someone like Mia being just better because of time.

Muramasa got.

Anyone else feel that we should split off Improbable Weapon User to its own page? It's amassed plenty of subbullets and will continue to add more when we get more seasonal banners.

Okay, work page got the long page warning, so I will go ahead and relocate the examples to their own page.

Update: After axing the example cases of underdog victories in Luck-Based Mission, the warning's gone. However, I'll still deal with the splitoff proposed, since we're bordering the threshold.

I genuinely don't know where this would go but I can't help but feel like it's interesting enough to point out.

Summer Laevatein is drawn by Masatsugu Saito, who designed the lead characters of Xenoblade 2.

And since Laevatein sees her weapon (named after herself) as one and the same, one could say she sees herself as a Blade. Because of this, I feel like this was either a deliberate artist choice, or just a neat little coincidence.

Does this go under any trope though?

Do you think it's time to put "units, weapons and skills" under it's new category for tropes, and everything else under another one?

This month's Grand Conquests features Roy, Lilina, and Cecilia as the army leaders instead of Alfonse, Sharena, and Anna. Does that fall under a certain trope? I was thinking Guest-Star Party Member and Another Side, Another Story at first, but I'm not sure whether they fit

Would some of the solutions on the Grandmaster difficulty of Tactics Drills go under Violation of Common Sense?

There are solutions where you need to fight at a triangle disavantage, and where you need to activate enemy specials intentionally, but I'm sorta afraid of spoiling part of the solutions if examples are needed.

Would Off-Model be included considering that this game has a lot of artists drawing for a lot of characters. The one infamous example is Sophia's elongated and thin neck to the point that fans nicknamed her Giraffe.

How are we feeling about Power-Up Letdown for unique refines of personal weapons?

I've seen some people really disappointed about some unique refines, especially Titania's Draconic Poleax and Takumi's Fujin Yumi, since it's... unexpected, to put it lightly.

It's more people having their hopes set too high than actually being terrible. Fujin Yumi, not so sure because Pass isn't good to begin with, but Draconic Poleax is fun with Tactic and Blade tomes.

I don't intend to start an edit war by deleting the entry first, but I disagree strongly with Shoot the Shaggy Dog- not only is Book II not yet over, but the wording chosen was unneccesarily strong.

"Shaggy Dog" Story, though, is valid.

Recently I removed Suddenly Voiced as the trope was meant to be for when The Voiceless speaks (at least according to Playing With). Looking at the example page for the trope, I thought I saw some examples that run a similar vein. Right now I'm doing a wick check. In the meantime, should we determine whether the removal was correct or whether we should add it back? Despite being a moderator, just remember that us mods are human too, so possible oversights happen to us too.

Edit: Got a wick check done, and brought it to TRS. Maybe we can hold off on readding until we get a conclusion?

Update on TRS: Currently a crowner is running, though it's likely that "voiced for the first time" will be used as the definition, which is the definition the example used.

If anyone wants to readd the example, permission granted. Otherwise, I'll readd once the crowner's called.

Could Lilina and Sanaki count as Divergent Character Evolution? They both fill the role of "extremely high Atk red mages with good to great Res". That's how it's always been up 'til lately, 'cause even though Sanaki's Cymbeline buffs her allies, Lilina can technically do the same with a Hone Atk buff, making them play very similarly.

But once Lilina got her Forblaze and Sanaki got her Cymbeline refine, while they both still keep their roles, they play differently, as Lilina focuses more on one shot nuke potential that can act solo. This is because of her Chill Res and Death Blow effect. While Sanaki is best played with a flier ally to take advantage of her weapon's effect, and it also improves her great Res further. She's also a better team player this way because her weapon's buffing ability becomes Drive Atk, allowing her to support the very same allies that she needs to thrive.

Basically, both start out very similar and don't play too different to each other, but now they play pretty differently even though they still keep the same role. I'm just wondering if this counts.

I would count on it, since the release of Sanaki, both of them played the role of "Infantry Red Mage Glass Cannon Squishy Wizard that boosts ally's attack", but since the refinery, they now go into different roles, giving them each their own identity.

For example, like you stated, Lilina can go solo and must focus on player phase, while Sanaki can go with a flier ally, and can be played either phase, though enemy phase is better for positioning setup.

Considering that no other characters has it, even though some should, it's likely The Artifact.

I would also agree that they count. It was presumed that more characters would get the movie treatment... but clearly that wasn't the case.

The player character uses the gun Breidablik to summon heroes. It is literally a portal gun. Do you think we should add a Shout-Out entry for this? Or maybe just a Fridge Logic entry?

Karxrida Since: May, 2012

Shout-Out needs to be known to be deliberate or at least an obvious reference. The gun functions differently from the Portal gun, so it's not a Shout-Out.
